We DID try it. On test. It actively HURT the game experience for new players (worthless in combat, clunky and stiff, didn't actually help you see your torso/leg positioning), and its only use ended up being to allow experienced players to turn it on for a second to see over hills/around corners, then turn it right back off for fighting. If I was a new player it would hurt my chances of continuing to play.

Don't worry everyone pgi said that they wouldn't mix 3rd person player with 1st person players....oh...sheet..oh we'll maybe by next patch they will announce that there will be a separate queue for it. I mean launch is still a few weeks away I have faith they will get it sorted out. But where I did lose faith was in January they said that come April or may they would be addressing the clans....um it's August now?

It's amazing how negative the tone has become. And it's not unwarranted, and no amount of "it's beta!" or "just quit playing whiners" will fix it. With every patch, there are fewer blind-faith defenders, increasingly bitter founders, and disillusioned newcomers. Personally, I hope this ship turns around still, but launch looms on the horizon.

Instead of the iceberg for the Titanic, we have a waterfall. Full speed ahead!

3rd Person?? WTF? The community voted serveral times against this (with ~ 90% against 3rd person) and you just bring this? Ok, you just told me, that you don't want money from me anymore.

Because forum goers responding to a couple of polls/threads represent all (or even most) of the game's population.

C'mon... I don't like 3PV either, but let us at least stay grounded in reality.

The only thing I really hate about this patch is the 3PV and the inevitable periscopeing that will soon be upon us.

I know they say they will separate the two views but that separation will not last long.

Apparently they weren't giving the 2xPPC+Gauss 'mechs a fair chance, so they had to be nerfed.

^^^ That's just plain funny

Yay for more MG & LBX iterations. I bet this time they will be good weapons.

I've been playing a CDA-3C lately with 4 MGs and have watched people in JM6-DDs with 6 MGs and I'll tell you MGs are critting the $H!7 out of everything big time. Last night I double legged 4 people in one match with my MGs after the armor was gone in fractions of a second. It's pretty much guaranteed to F people up like butter. It's insane.

Now to fix 2 PPC + Gauss

The joke is that 3pv is actually garbage for real gameplay, making it considerably harder to aim, snipe, brawl, anything but peek over a hill without getting locked by LRMs.

Yet this is the mode on by default for someone new.

This is incredible, a phenomenal update, why wasn't this in the patch notes? The art and web/backend team continue to do a good job even as the game itself falters.

Machine guns definitely needed to be nerfed. The problem though was that they added the 15% damage translation from components to internals, which for machine guns read something like 1000% increase in damage to internals. I liked their previous role. If i faced machine guns and had no armor i was immediately losing my weapons and heat sinks which was scary enough, i did not need to get cored instantly as well. Thats why you were seeing spider 5ks with damage over 1000.

Was this all a really round about way to make the lbx better? sigh... think of a better way pgi...

New players aren't going to know that a drone is floating behind them acting as the camera, and that it's a beacon to their position and all of the enemy team.

New players are going to be forced into a mode that, according to the patch notes, is going to take away valuable information like the minimap and their lance info.

New players are going to be forced into a mode that, according to the patch notes, is going to alter their physical response by locking their arms.

The fabled UI 2.0 isn't here yet so there is no hint system, context clues, or interface that points out to a new player that any of this is happening, or how to change to the cockpit view. So, how is any of this helpful to new players at all right now?

Some of them might read the Patch Notes perhaps. :)

The sad thing is that there is still NO TUTORIAL telling them that there is a bright red drone telling everyone where you are because you're using 3PV.

Actual important question,

The Kintaro, Was its hit box fixed so its no longer a suicide box?

Someone didn't read the Kintaro thread they posted that pretty much stated first patch in September.

http://mwomercs.com/...mage-magnetism/

Hey everyone!
This is just a quick message to say we're working on a fix for the Kintaro's CT taking most of the incoming damage, and it will be going live on the September 3rd patch! So take heart, Kintaro lovers, your fix approaches!
Cheers,
The MechWarrior Online Team

Surprisingly, I don't have a problem with 3pv/1pv being in the same queue. The disadvantages of 3pv seem like a good tradeoff on the additional fov. And they said they're looking at adding a cooldown to changing back and forth (which could be in this patch for all we know). It reminds me of the cool drone thing from the Mechwarrior 5 trailer, and splitting the community is ALWAYS a bad idea. So yeah, I'm ok with this.

To clarify for those who didn't see 3PV in the tests -

You can't see your own mech that well. It's a poor vanity view.

It doesn't help with orientation of your leg/torso. In fact it's more confusing; you get close to a wall and your camera view gets mushed up.

What it does do, and do well, is let you see over hills and around corners and it takes very little skill to tap F4 to stop, identify what mechs are where without exposing yourself, what sort of mech they are, what direction they're facing and a bit about their loadout before tapping again and moving on.

What it will also do is tell the other teams exactly where your team is so even if you never use 3PV if the guy on your team following you is your position is totally blown.

It's not even like MW3/MW4 where 3PV was just the superior method of play. You played in 3PV to be competitive and 1PV was there for tryhards and singleplayer scenarios.

No, this is an amazing approach of taking 3PV/1PV mixed play.... and making it worse. I'm speechless.
