Living in Ireland, I can vouch for the truth to that statement. Thankfully, it's becoming less common...
I think though, given the circumstances, Rainbow Stables has some press but it doesn't have many 'very good' pilots trying to join it yet. Simple reason is it still doesn't have actual access to the good arenas - Jack only got into the coliseum because it was an open event. So now everyone knows who they are, but most folk worth their salt won't apply because they can't make money from it - yet.
So the new characters are the ones who can actually hold their own to an extent that got through VBs vetting of new recruits. All you have to do is look somewhat competent - I assume he's getting plenty of morons trying to get in.

To further that, Bertie got invited in because he wasn't a complete PR nightmare. Unlike Mad Jack, he was someone the stables could point to and say "Look, we have responsible pilots, too!" This being a few days after Bertie's daughter was hospitalised through his inattention.

You don't have to be great or even good to join Rainbow. You just have to be better than at least one other sucker.

I'm still waiting to see what Thom has planned as a result of beating the DCs. He insisted on it, I'm assuming there was some form of plan.

Name: Dylan Wolf

Callsign: The Lone Wolf

Date of Birth/Age: 2980

Current Mech: A WHM - 6R, nicknamed Misery

House Affiliation: Wolf's Dragoons

Military History: Fought with first set of Dragoons to enter the sphere on the periphery, proving himself an able warrior, but nothing special in the ranks of the Dragoons.

Fought with no special distinctions with other pilots as they moved across the other houses. Proved himself to be an able field commander with the first employer they had, Davion. Was promoted in the field when an artillery shell slammed into the head of his CO’s mech, from a friendly Davion Arty piece. Stayed as the field lance commander for the remainder of the duration. When finally reinforcements arrived from the Clans resupply, he was officially promoted. Then, with their next employers, House Liao, he began to gain experience as a commander, and leader, against House Marik. He again fought with no special distinctions, but is noted that he lead his men with comparatively minimal losses against Marik when compared against Liao supporting units, or several Dragoon units. When they were placed on the garrison duty, Dylan kept his unit fit by running simulations, training, training, and more training, pushing his troops to think him a crazy war starved pilot. But when they were sent to support Anton Marik, Dylan’s constant drills seemed to help the unit, as they knew each other like the back of their hands. They suffered no losses, except when their scout, Mason, was captured, and then executed by Anton Marik. Dylan’s enraged lance joined with the Black Widows, and was one of the first to storm the palace grounds, Dylan leading the way personally with his Annihilator. They tore through the remaining Liao supported forces with a brutality never before seen by the Dragoons, a brutality, which became a center piece to Dylan’s lance after the loss. Dylan was then sent back to the First Regiment, and promoted to company commander, leading now two lances. He was a soldier’s soldier, constantly drilling, training, practicing, testing his warriors. The first lance fell into line immediately, and the second was coaxed into it as well, finally learning after three months of solid training, what the benefits were, when they beat another company in a war game, as now the team was coming together to be a unit.

His callsign became Shield, as he was quoted “Training the men so that they may become a shield for weaker,”. That was quickly put to the test when several mercs began to extort a bit of money from some locals while they were recouping and preparing to invade Steiner. Dylan, backed by two of his lancemates that were in his lance, arrived and beat the two pilots mercilessly, sending them to the med bay. No one questioned his authority over his company after that. When he gave an order, unlike before when the men would grudgingly obeyed, they now snapped to it. Their drills became seamless, and finally Dylan began to become satisfied with their ability to fight, and know each other, letting up on their training, if only a little. Then they invaded Steiner, and fought with again, no distinctions, or special annotations in reports, mostly because they didn’t suffer any losses, and so, didn’t have any dead to report in. But then, came Hesperus II. Dylan’s company was one of the first in of their combat group, and only three survived. Dylan, Ike, and Grendil. Dylan’s men were unprepared for the horrors of combat drops, especially against an enemy so well entrenched. This seeded the beginnings of an idea into Dylan’s mind, of what he began to form of a new company. One that would be able to fight on any terrain, specializing in combat drops, and securing drop zones for drop ships. He would harbor this idea as the company was rebuilt. When his company was rebuilt, and resupplied, Dylan started to harden, become more unforgiving, and even harsher as he drilled the new recruits. The truth was, he didn’t want another Hesperus II. When they moved into the Lyran Commonwealth, Dylan was quick to snap at recruits who showed even the smallest flaws when they drilled, and absolutely seethed at the Steiner displays of wealth with their massive amounts heavy mechs, and their lack of good pilots in them. This seething rage turned into a fight at a local mess when he spoke with dissatisfaction at the Steiner units in general. A fellow Dragoon who had a different opinion, challenged him on the grounds that what he said was insulting, and degrading of their new comrades. Dylan won the fist fight, but not leaving unscathed. The man who had spoken up, was a pilot, by the name of David, and had broke several of the mech pilot’s ribs, while Dylan had beaten him senseless. The two quickly befriended each other afterwards in the med bay, and while Dylan still hated the Steiner displays of wealth, he respected their units from then on out. When they moved against the Draconis Combine on Dromini VI, Dylan’s company benefitted greatly from their training and drills, suffering minimal losses against the Second Sword of Light. When they moved back into Steiner space, and readied for movement into Kurita space, Dylan was quick to congratulate most of his men, revealing that the brutish, black hearted commander was indeed sincere in his motivations, congratulating all of his men, christening them now baptized members of the company. He became more open, kinder, and was now showing his true self to his men.

When they moved to the Draconis Combine, Dylan was impressed by the warrior code that they followed, and definitely began to like some members of the Combine who were also battlemech pilots. The men under his command interacted well with the units they began to fight and train alongside with. They fought again with no distinctions, except to the units they fought alongside (most saying that they were ferocious ******** that didn’t take no for an answer), and taking again minimal losses. He would openly divert some of his men when able to support a failing Combine assault in the middle of a battle, ensuring that minimal losses were taken on that front by both combat groups, earning no commendations from command, but receiving a private thanks in the gift to the company, a Warhammer, the other company commander’s personal mech. The mech was christened Misery, after the planet they were stationed on when they received the mech. Then, when the Combine turned against the Dragoons, friends became foes, and Dylan, grudgingly fought against some of his closest allies in the field. They held the line on the initial assault on Misery, but that was before the main battle. The battle of Misery was a total loss for Dylan’s company. Dylan’s company was completely wiped out, leaving him with his badly damaged Warhammer, and a rage that none of the other Dragoons had ever seen, besides in Natasha herself. When they redeployed into Davion space, and onto Outreach, the Dragoons began to rebuild. Dylan was asked to resume command of his company, or, what was left of it, and he refused. The loss at Misery had torn him apart. Command seeing that Dylan had a lot of experience training with, and fighting alongside a lot of the members of the Sphere, was then recruited for a “Special Assignment”. It was here that Dylan was finally introduced to the 7th Kommando, and then the rumors he’d heard from the ranks of other Dragoons in the years before, were confirmed. They were going to be fighting against the Clans, against what Dylan formerly called home. His assignment, to rebuild his unit from scratch, and find out how the fighters of the Sphere interacted with each other, not only in battle, but, out of it, when there were more than two warriors from differing houses. The administrative parts were already taken care of, all Dylan had to do, was send in recruits, be they boys, or men, that he deemed worthy of coming into his company. When he finally spoke of his idea, a company that was specialized in combat drops, he named it, “a company of Hell Jumpers”. Command liked the idea, officially christening him commander of the “1st Hell Jumpers Company”. With that, he was sent to Solaris, the mixing pot of the galaxy, and told to find a stable to work from, that was unnotable at the time, and with a good mix of pilots, and nationalities. Dylan located Rainbow Stables, and after proving himself in a duel, he began his contract with the stable.

Physical Description: He is about 6'3" and built muscularly, and is extremely lean. He has a scar going across his right eye from an encounter with a Strana Mechty Wolf.

Open Background: Dylan appears gruff, and simple. He sticks with what he knows, and doesn’t back down from a fight. He will stand up for someone getting pushed around, but aside from that, he won’t speak much, more because he isn’t comfortable talking with someone, unless he feels the need to. He isn’t much for idle chat for now, and still doesn’t understand a lot of social customs the residents of the Sphere follow.

Deep Background: His losses at Misery, and Hesperus VI, deeply hurt his psyche, and even some said have turned him into a cold shell of his former self. He has a heart, but it is buried under many layers of cold hate, for the Combine, and for himself at his failure to prepare his men for the two attacks. This hatred is what drives him to make sure that whomever he takes for the new “Hell Jumpers”, will be the most ferocious, aggressive, and outright dangerous and prepared assault group the Sphere and the Dragoons has ever seen. He is constantly chastising himself for past and current failures, causing him to seem like a recluse, and to have a sour outlook on life.

We're always looking for newcomers Ian, don't believe second lance has been filled.
I believe Dal is right in that there's no hard limit, but after second lance is filled I suspect Thom might decide he has enough cats to herd. Not that that should stop applications - exceptions are Thom's middle name
If you're interested in joining Ian, check the first post for the RP rules and write yourself out a character bio. We'll be happy to have a look.

*Checks Birth Certificate.* No exception is not my middle name...

@Ian your lack of postings on here make me skeptical, but I'm willing to look anything over. If nothing else there's bound to be another RP accepting bios sooner or later.

Date of Birth/Age: 2980
Current Mech: A WHM - 6R that will be acquired as soon as Thom lets me, with current mech being a FLE - 15
House Affiliation: Wolf's Dragoons
Military History: Up to date, Dylan has only taken small contracts, usually against pirates, and other small time rabble. He just arrived from the Periphery, after his second assignment, left him with the two small boys, now called by the rest of the crew Draco, and Phiro. He had taken them in fulfulling the last wishes of the lone mech pilot that gave his life to help them on their last mission. Since then, he was transferred over to the 7th Kommando, and put on a special assignment along with many members of his old unit. Wanting to see how people of the Sphere interacted, especially when not on the battlefield with each other, and wanting to see how their warriors conducted themselves off the field, Dylan was put onto the assignment of finding a mech stable with a good mix of warriors, and that was relatively unknown so that his coming wouldn't set off too many red flags. And so, they found Rainbow stables and placed Dylan there with a Flea battlemech, putting his Warhammer into a nearby warehouse for storage under another man's name until the rest of the stable was going to move up into heavier chassis. The plan for Dylan to regain this was to be a meeting that would result in Dylan acquiring it through a gambling session, in which the game was to be rigged in Dylan's favor, and have people planted there to make sure the deal went across smoothly. However, since his joining the stable, Dylan has been plagued with attack after attack, making him seem to be "assassin prone" (trust me, unless Thom orders me to, will not happen), and causing him to either be sent to a hospital, or, just left with some nasty gashes. As such, Dylan has taken to carrying his laser pistol everywhere, and has trained with it a bit, become a little better than an average shot with it. He has also dusted off his old skills in hand to hand combat, and now keeps himself fit, and active as he is a bit on edge a suspicious of everyone, now that his new directive is to keep everyone in the stable alive, using whatever means necessary.
Physical Description: He is about 6'3" and built muscularly, and is extremely lean. He has a scar going across his right eye from an encounter with a Strana Mechty Wolf.
Open Background: Not much is known about Dylan, he has a perfect combat record against pirates, four kills and zero ejections. He is a broad thinker, and is extremely good on his feet, though he is only acquainted with small arms. He also doesn't trust people very easily at all. He is also as sociable as some of his men. His recent run in with Rainbow has earned him the ire of Von Bremen, and has most thinking he's either very unlucky, or just horrible at knowing when to **** of a bad situation.
Deep Background: Dylan is now going to be very protective of the rest of the members of the stable, and is still receiving updates on Draco's training, which from what he's heard, is progressing well. He is also on the lookout for kids that show traits that he's looking for to start a unit up with the Dragoons, the 1st Hell Jumpers battalion, which is to be a combined arms unit where everyone will be trained as infantry first, and their other specializations second. As such, he will seem to be studying people almost to the point of stalking them if an interesting candidate arrives. He is getting used to the city now, and doesn't get lost near as often, but will definitely lose his sense of direction if they get him far enough away from the parts he's used to.

How's that?

He had taken them in fulfulling the last wishes of the lone mech pilot that gave his life to help them on their last mission. Since then, he was transferred over to the 7th Kommando, and put on a special assignment along with many members of his old unit. The Dragoons had taken major losses after the conflicts between them and the DC. Dylan himself had heard of the encounters, however, were some of the first reinforcements for the Dragoons from outside of the periphery. As a test, and after several encounters on the periphery to test the warrior's mettle, Dylan was sent to Solaris, to discern whether members of the Sphere could be considered capable for recruitment into the Dragoons. Dylan was to do this by studying his fellow stable members, albeit inconspicuously, to learn their habits, strengths, and weaknesses. The reason the 7th Kommando wanted this information, was due to the massive losses seen against the DC, and with most analysts putting the Dragoons in a very weakened and vulnerable state. As such, they knew they couldn't wait for reinforcements from the Clans for much longer, and from the hearsay passing along through the lines from home communique, it seemed like the Dragoons might actually be faced with recruiting from the Inner Sphere alone. As such, Dylan was given a crash course in field work by the 7th to insure that he didn't get himself killed, and to properly note his stablemates' habits. When they arrived to Solaris, they began their search for a stable that matched what they wanted, something where warriors from across the sphere, from all walks of life, would come together, fight together, and interact. And so, they found Rainbow stables and placed Dylan there with a Flea battlemech, putting his Warhammer into a nearby warehouse for storage under another man's name until the rest of the stable was going to move up into heavier chassis. The plan was for Dylan to get into the stables as just another member, and though to acknowledge his employment by the Dragoons when questioned, he was not to bring it up at all anytime else. With his entrance to the stable secured, and the Warhammer only awaiting the call phrase to be sent to the members watching over it, Dylan thought that he might actually be able to pull this operation off without a hitch. He also received a notification through a 'drop', someone bumping into him and putting something into his pocket, that he was not going to have the elemental strike team as security with the recent attacks, as having something like that immediately appear on call was deemed, "too suspicious looking", by command.

His Solaris record so far is 2-0 as well, even with the last match ending with the man piloting the panther destroying his own mech, and nearly killing himself, in a gutsy move by firing his PPC at point blank range. He is a broad thinker, and is extremely good on his feet, though he is only acquainted with small arms. He also doesn't trust people very easily at all. He is also as sociable as some of his men. His recent run in with Rainbow has earned him the ire of Von Bremen, and has most thinking he's either very unlucky, or just horrible at knowing when to get the f*ck out of a bad situation.

With several candidates already sent to command for integration into sibkos, Dylan is still searching for more. As such, he will seem to be studying people almost to the point of stalking them if an interesting candidate arrives. He is getting used to the city now, and doesn't get lost near as often, but will definitely lose his sense of direction if they get him far enough away from the parts he's used to.

Well, finally got it finished, I hope it reads better.
