Hi, I just got myself what I believed to be a great laptop for gaming to complement my desktop when I am working long missions all around the world, but I can't seem to run the game above 10 FPS.
Settings can be low or very High, on medium I have 14FPS, on very high I have 10 FPS.

I checked the power profile, I am on high performances.
I checked the graphic card GTX770M, I have the latest drivers provided by ASUS, the v311. They are a month older than the ones showed on Nvidia website, but it shouldn't matter.
Dx11, Windows 8, tried compatibility mode with Windows 7, no luck.

Hello there,

As a proud owner of an asus G73JW (GTX460M). I can tell you it is NOT normal your game is lagging (i get 30+ fps @1600*900 everything to high -- i'm overclocking ^^)

Watch out for one thing : When you play on BATTERY the BIOS on those comps actually declock all the hardware (or only cpu can't remember)

So play plugged, always!

If it is not this I advise you to check your Geforce Experience panel and don't let it ''optimize'' your game (although your comp should be able to play on everything maxed out)

If it's still not that disable ''DAMAGE GLOW'' on graphics settings in Mechwarrior Online options.

Disable V-sync too (half your FPS, only enable if you don't want a ''cut line'' sometimes when you move images really fast)

If it still lag. Try another game, if it lags too, reinstall drivers (from nvidia.com and try to take a slitghly older version)

If it still lag, you can send me your comp, i'll gladly keep it! :)

I am plugged.
Problem happen even without firing or anything, so damage glow is out.

I am looking into the graphic card driver, but Nvidia does not recognize my card. Maybe I need to uninstall the Asus drivers for Nvidia to detect it?
I am also supposed to get 3D gaming and all kind of giddy stuff... but the Nvidia Control Pannel is almost empty. I can't say for sure since I am usually an ATI user, but dat **** doesn't look right...
Is is windows 8? Is it the Asus Drivers? Something is definetly screwing my performances.

Oh well... I authenticated the windows and now there's a bunch of windows framework stuff to patch. Maybe that's it?
(Damn right, I have a very good sense or priority... I installed MWO before even activating Windows :))

Love those priorities!
Anyway, I may think the problem come from the driver. Install those from nvidia.com.
And yep do the updates i know framework can be annoying sometimes.

Out of curiosity, I suppose you also got a ROG mouse with your computer? Did you manage to bind stuff on mouse4 and mouse5? I can't bind anything on the buttons in-game, yet they still work as intended for page next/Prev page in explorer.
I has no troubles before on windows 7 with either a Roccat or a Razer mouse.

Nope, I ordered mine without the mice and backpack. Can't really help you on this one. But as always, install the driver for the mouse from asus website (we can never know if there is a hotfix or whatever )

But I am waiting for my razer blade 14' just for info :)

the game uses dx9 .dx11 should be coming soon, wait for its implementation and hopefully fps should improve for everyone with dx11 capable cards.

I did every single windows update,
I tried 2 different VGA drivers version from the ASUS website... nothing seems to work.
The official driver installer provided by Nvidia tells me my hardware is incompatible.
I am missing every option for 3D vision... or is it hidden somewhere? I used to only have ATI card so I cannot say if this is normal, but I am missing a metric-ton of options from the NVIDIA control pannel.

It's not from MWO but from my laptop. 3DMarks and 3dMark11 barely show 20% of the expected result, I am 5 times slower than identical computers and I have no idea why.

I will bet optimus isn't detecting programs correctly. Most newer laptops have a integrated graphics chip plus the dedicated card. With NVIDIA the program is called optimus and it decides which card to use. Sometimes it works automatically sometimes it must be told which card to use.

Make sure your laptop isn't in power saving mode. Most ship that way and it really kills gaming performance.

Indeed; I also believe ther is an issue around the power saving. Thanks.

But Asus has decided to not install Optimus on the Republic of Gamers notebook... apparently it was declared too buggy.

Regarding power saving mode, Power4Gear (installed by default) is correctly running as intended, switching to high-performance profile when I plug the AC power cord... but there must be a conflict somewhere around that as my computer du not get a performance boost.

Do you know a tool to monitor the CPU/GPU ?

Msi afterburner would do it.

Is there a program list somewhere to tell it what GPU to use? Afaik that's how ATI does it, they dont even have a program.

@Grease Monkey :Nope, its not an Optimus laptop.
@Spike Brave : He is in High performance
My guess is definitely concerning hardware (or the driver related)
You should do a clean uninstall of your driver (go in device manager, graphic card -» Uninstall )
Then try to see what windows update comes with, let it install the driver of your card.
If the driver installed still lag, re-do a clean install with nvidia drivers.
If it tells you it doesnt recognize the card, you have two options :
1- Hardware related (....you're pretty much screwed, send it back...)
2- Software related (If it really comes to this you tried everything, clean reinstall windows 8 ----press f11 on boot if asus did the same on this laptop as they did to previous ROG generation you'll have an hidden partition with windows 8 installation backup)

Here is your driver for WINDOWS 64BIT :http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.49-whql-driver-uk.html
IF THIS DOESNT WORK:
There is a new version of your BIOS (rev . 207)
http://www.asus.com/...ort_Download_36
Update it, its crucial. But DOWNLOAD the BIOS utility to upgrade your BIOS.
And because you're used to uninstalling/installing your graphic drivers, try those on their support website too
If all those above doesnt work, I could only advise you to return it to ASUS....but really, i doubt it.

Make sure you change the power setting in windows (if that's what you have). A lot of third party software doesn't do it right. As far as monitoring I just use the Task manager for CPU and whatever built in the cards has. Those provide all the detail I need.

Download EVGA precision, tells you the clock your GPU uses (in realtime, so it show you if it declock or not)

@Spike Brave: good point, although windows only declock CPU, not GPU.

@Sagueah: As stupid as Microsoft is they have a very confusing system. You can set your laptop to high performance, but that does nothing for power consumption. What happened to me was this very thing. Had my in high performance but poor results. It wasn't until I also took the machine out of power saving that it functioned as expected. Is not very user friendly or intuitive, but hey what would you expect from MS. :P

@Spike Brave : You're right on this! As Microsoft limit your CPU whereas your CPU utility declock it etc. They have a really confusing system. And even if windows 8 has his good points....you should be able to use the current windows 7 appearance.....specially when your screen isnt a touch screen :P...

Thanks a lot Sagueah.

I did update the bios to 207, and I did try 3 clean install of different versions of VGA drivers provided by Asus. The official one from Nvidia are not compatible with my hardware.

I monitored the PC with CPU-Z, and the CPU clock is correctly around 800MHz while idle, and 3200MHz under MWO.
HOWEVER... core and memory clock of the GTX 770M stay at 405 MHz, it's like the card is still sleeping.

I uninstalled Asus Power4Gear Hybrid in case it would create a conflict with windows... still, the problem persist.
