Some highways you can get up to 110.

That is why 120kph is the current standard the Mounties seem to allow. ^_^

Some of the faster overall designs will be an issue to hit but that is their defence. In EVE, it is called speed tanking. Those guys can never take a hit or they are dead. They are hard to track and they can out run most missiles. I don't see a problem with the super speed 'mech set ups nor do I see an issue with tracking them. Speed is controlled by terrain. And trying to turn properly at 130 km/h will be hard. That's why you don't see an 110-120 Km/h highway in Eastern Canada. (Although, having to drive the 400 series highways at any thing less then 120 Km/h is actually impeding traffic.)

Or half the speeds I have done illegally on the highway in the US!

For 129.6 km/h (160-170 with MASC), that's pretty fast, but as others mentioned if the scale is up high even it won't feel that fast.

So time to build that 20 ton mech with MASC to get it even faster (and some in this thread already knew the 300 limit)...

20 ton
-3 for cockpit
-1 for Endo Steel internal structure
-1 for MASC
(plenty of slots for Inner Sphere Endo Steel, XL Engine, and MASC)

That gives us 15 tons for the engine and its gyros.

4 tons of gyro for up to 400 rated engine leaves 11 tons for the engine.

Since it will be XL, that's a 22 ton engine, which is the 315 GM which is 21.5 tons.

A 315 would (rounded down) give us a movement speed of 15/23, or 15 walking, 23 running.

Each point is roughly equal to 10 km/h, so we'd get 230 km/h running. For walking it's 150 km/h. For MASC it's 300 km/h.

But wait, we used an odd number engine of 315, so the non-rounded movement speed would be 15.75/23.625. So MASC would be 31.5 movement speed, which would be 315 km/h.

And that is 195.73 MPH!!!

Can you honestly say 195 MPH won't feel fast in a mech game?

Highway speed limit is around 55 mph in my area of Pennsylvania. Really irks me because I miss the 65 mph limit when I lived in California. I still go between 65 and 70 around the highways here any ways. For local police, they usually don't bother you up to 10mph over the limit, but the highway patrol will ding anybody thanks to their 'quotas' they need to reach.

oh thanks guys, now i feel happy that i'm 'allowed' to drive 200+ km/h with my motorbike here in germany ...
about the SUPER FAST MECH's, learn to lead ... (do you feel the need for lead ?!)
its simple to hit T50's in WoT if they dont drive like on drugs (under influence xD)
and even than they have to turn if they want to keep shooting at someone, you just need to be in the right spot at the right time, if you are slower, if you are faster, just HIT'EM !

Oh, I know. But I always lead shots when shooting at someone clipping along pretty fast.

And some people just can't drive. If I start a match and I hear a bunch of metal scraping behind me in the first few seconds, I know I was stuck with the losing team, lol.

You shouldn't be so modest. It's actually unlimited in Germany (in places), so you may just ditch your 'fast' bike and get four wheels or just paint it red ^_^

I used to have crotch rockets when I lived in California. Yes, even a mid-sized sports bike would dust most production four wheels. Acceleration and top speed. Only a few production vehicles would ever beat bikes, and that would be on top speed, not acceleration. But for those speeds, you couldn't really test it safely unless you went to the salt flats in Nevada.

most people in ontario drive 130 anyways and the opp doesn't seem to mind
quebec and alberta are even worse.

I believe someone else said it as well... The "feeling" of speed is directly related to the size of the vehicle and the distance from the ground you are...

For instance, I own three cars; an 83 Fiat Spyder (small convertible), an 09 Hyundai Sonata, and an 08 Dodge Durango (SUV for boat towing)... If I drive the convertible or my wife's car (the Sonata) much and then switch to driving the Durango (which is much much larger)... I have to be very careful of driving too fast in the Durango. It simply doesn't feel like I am going as fast as I really am going... Then, I can climb into a Cessna 172 and fly much much faster then I drive the Durango and it doesn't feel fast at all because I am so much higher then the ground.

The "feeling" of speed is a funny thing, and affected greatly by point of view.

Well I guarantee they'll stop you if you make it to 160mph.

'Mechs will never be able to go faster than 88 MPH, otherwise they'd go back to the future.

While I agree, on ground and regardless of size (within reason, from mech to car), 195 MPH is going to feel fast. I don't think there's any way to get around that.

Because of the speeds possible in Battletech/Mechwarrior, either Piranha will be forced to scale it down or just us have super fast, light scouts, that will be tough to hit unless you have something that can lock on like missiles. But then again, are missiles traveling faster than 195 MPH? And by how much?

I hope they toss in those fast light mechs. I love speed, and will be running often in a FireMoth or Dragonfly when they come out sometime during or after Clan Expansion. FireMoth with MASC, 216 kph!

Faster than one can go on the Highways legally in Canada, 100KPH max.

110 Kph out east. Let's face it, the RCMP isn't going to pull ANYONE over on the #1 doing 110. New Brunswickers do about 130Kph, crazy maritimers.

You realize folks 75 Kph or Km/h is only about 35Mph... about the average speed limit for most vehicles on roads... a scout 'Mech traveling at 129.6 km/h is about 80Mph... they got the speed correct from the previous MW incarnations, and I have no doubt with the crytek3 engine, they'll be damn accurate ^_^

Just wait till someone strips all the weapons from the Cicada and ramps up the engine to 200kph or so. Or am I the only person who wants to do this?

Max out the CT armor and chest-bump big 'mechs to death!

thread hijacked by speedlimits around the world ...
öhm, yeah my CBF 600 can't go much faster than 200

anyway, its just a question of leading, pings, and hitzones

arme lasers suddenly become a great thing, because you get a "faster" rotation for your crosshair
oh and legging seems to be fine again such fast targets
