I don't know why your acting like lights mech exclusive players are leagues better than assualt mech exclusive players. I personally have experience with all classes and I wouldn't fit the bill for how you describe a typical assualt mech player, I don't think anybody is far more skilled for pilloting a light exclusively, same can be said for assualt, your not leagues better for driving assualts exclusively or most of the time. I can say by piloting each class it has made me much better overall with each class, you learn important factors with each class, which helps round you into a better player. Each class requires you play with a certain playstle and eahc class require a cetain skill. I feel each class needs getting used to to do well in it.
I'm not about to be braggart but I do think I do fairly well with each classs. With my jenner F I can consitantly get at least 300 damage and 2 kills at the very least, on my better days it can be more than double that. I get similairly impressive stats with my Atlas D-DC, average of 500 damage 2-3 kills. On better days it can climb up to 750 damage with 4 kills. I can operate well in both of these spectrums, so I'm not a class exclusive player. I also have alot of success in my cataprhact 3D, getting a simialir average damage and kill count as the D-DC. So I feel I have some merit to say the following.
I don't have a problem taking out lights in assualts really, the lb10-x is a good anti light weapon and I can properly lead my shots so I can either leg them or score some nasty rear torso damage . The only mech that seems to take far more abuse than it should is the spider, I fire my LBx 10's straight into their backs and do far less damage than what what it looked like to me, it does baffle me how a commado would be close to kicking the bucket after my lbx 10 salvo but a spider would take less than half the damage, a mech that is 5 tons lighter is easier to hit than a 30 ton mech, something is wrong with that. Anywho, the torso seems to be the same size to me. To be fair though, this is not with every spider, its very occasioanal that I get a spider that simply defies damage. This does happen with almost every mech class however, I've encountered wonkey hit reg with spiders while piloting lights, mediums heavies and assualts. It is not a class exclusive thing and it happens enoguh to bear mentioning I think.
I didn't at any point indicate that they're leagues better - I said that frequent light pilots are better shots, as in, better able to hold lasers on target. I split my time equally between playing, and target practice in testing grounds. Hour after hour of practicing high-speed headshots means I can hold lasers on-target at high speed. I enjoy all the lights (though, since the movement mechanic change has made my commandos a losing proposition). The 6ml jenner is a beast, and every bit as survivable as my spiders are (if we ever get a Jenner with 6 energy AND ecm, I'll be first in line to call it OP though). Ever since the LBx change to the spread, I actually pay attention when someone is running one. My apologies if your only takeaway from my post was that "light pilots are better", that wasn't the intention. The intention was just to say, when you HAVE to learn to hold a laser on target in order to survive, you simply get better. And, the experience translates well to fatter mechs. Do watch the video above if you get a moment, I was in around 734 damage and the jenner with me was over 800.

There is a trick to thinking you're special. ...it's not-to.

Well many of the assualt mechs in my game are not exactly bad shots, they can hold their laser on target well enough, maybe nto as agood as light, but its not like what I saw in the video, they do get the laser to stay on target a bit longer. I don't know enough to say they are assualt exclusive but it just seems that you had yourself against a team was still newer to the game, I get them sometimes too, the newer players that still don't quite do the best job at holding their lasers on target. Agreed on the Jenner F, my favorite light by far, thoguh I like my Sara's mech alot too, espeicallt sicne streaks now do some real damage. I'm a bit less good with my Raven 3L though, I don't have the best luck with it. i think the best I did with the Jenner was 762 damage and 3 kills, during 8 man, not quite as good as you or the other Jenner pilot, but I think I'm still fairly good.
My post had two points though, One was that, I didn't agree light pilots are better shots, I felt that assualt pilots had better skill with ballistic weapons and landing instant hit weapons though I do conceed that light exclusive players probably have better aiming with lasers most of the time however that was the poitn I was trying to make with abotu what certain skill sets are needs for each chassis
The second point was that, there is some sort of probelm with spider hitboxes, It is not as bad as people say but it does exist and yeah your video does hold some truth, the assualts will have a harder time keeping on target but I don't think its fair to use one game as a reason why your point is solid, I can easily submit a screenshot of the game I had with My Atlas D-DC were I got 1133 damage and 6 kills back when it was just 8 man only and say somethign like, oh assualts are the only way to play the game no other chasis is valid, in reality, I just say its fortunate circumstances. I was against a team that was very unaware and was able to take them down one by one, until I managed to kill 6 of them before the game ended with victory. I do not think its a fair assumption to go of one game personally. To have videos and screenshots as past matches to hold any water, they have to have some consistency you know? Also I aplogize for exagerating what you said, that was uncalled for. I like to views things more in an equal light is what I wanted to say, that each chassis requires their certain skill to allow you to excel didn't mean to come off as so agressive.

It's not just that one match, I have lots of 'em like that but I'm new to recording them

Most games in the spider are 400-600 damage with 3-5 kills, and thats fairly repeatable (except for one out of every.. maybe 5-6 games when a dual erppc/gauss hits me in the CT or head! I giggle when that happens, because I enjoy explodey things). After most matches, I usually get a) a few people saying "Holy poo spider GJ!" and other people saying "lag shield motherF". Ultimately, I played the spider before the hit registration issues, I won't *stop* driving it during the hit registration issues, and I don't intend to stop after the issues - it's a really fun mech. It's fun in the same way as riding a motorcycle (speaking of which, I'd like to see some stats on light pilots cross referenced with motorcyclists!).
If you add me as a friend on MWO, we can team up some time if you're curious, I can even give some spider pointers if you're open to it

Sure I'm down with that I'll add you on MWO and we can run a couple games, haven't actually bought the spider yet though, its on the to buy list, along with the Cicada, Hunchback and Stalker. It'll probably be my next mech after I finish basic-ing my last highlander variant though.

Once hit registration is fixed the only thing that will keep the Spiders alive are their size and speed/maneuverability. Stop calling for a nerf for a problem that doesn't exist. Blame the problem, not the victim.
The other half of the problem, are the people who know that there's a problem with hit-detection and purposely run those units to exploit the system. While spiders are exceedingly annoying, they're not impossible to hit with the proper lead. I quite enjoy shooting at spiders, and laughing at them when they get splattered. I know that some people are "innocent" and that they may only have 1 spider in their stable - but I know it's not the case with many, certain other people that jump between their Spider, Stalker, and HGN's.
