I think we need an I Lose button, it would help alot with the new Cbill grid after all you need to iterate trough as many matches as possible now.

The win button would serve this purpose too, but that goes against current trends of dropping from games for extra cash.

Here we go...!

Quote

You implied people thought 3PV ruined the game. I tried to explain that this wasn't the case, and to make clearer the real reason 3PV gets so much negative attention.

I'm going to tie this into your earlier comment that 1. It goes against long-standing, repeated statements on the intended direction of the game. I still stand by my earlier point that this game is Beta and they're still making adjustments to balance. Directions change. A public beta, by its very definition, requires change. Some changes may work; some may not. In any case, we have not yet been presented with a final product yet, which is why websites like IGN do not yet have a score for the game.

To touch further on the point, in that 3. It's a bandaid over a different problem (the lack of a tutorial), that is a matter of opinion. Yes, there is no hard-and-fast tutorial. There are youtube videos posted on the opening splash and there's the stomping grounds, but no hard-and-fast tutorial. I'm a programmer. AI requires time and patience and debugging - lots of debugging. I'm willing to cut the dev's some slack on that. Should there be a tut? Absolutely. But at the very least, there's something; I'm just not ready to cry foul yet at its absence given the material that is present.

Quote

2. The stated reasons for the change don't line up with what's actually in game

That is entirely a matter of opinion.

Quote

4. PGI has given no indication that they are still tweaking things.

What kind of indication would you like? Not to white-knight the company, but they are under no obligation to release any internal information concerning their testing and development cycle. Especially given upcoming deadlines that they seem to desperately want to keep. Given that changes are being made to MG damage, heat, and all the other changes that were listed in the last patch notes, I have to completely disagree on this point.

Quote

You said people were making rational points, but didn't address any of them. Then you replied to me with "I disagree" and said "what's the point of me addressing those points?"

You and others are obviously commenting from the perspective of a hardcore gamer, so much so that it's already been said
something along the lines of

Quote

Right, you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
to me. If we are not communicating on similiar grounds - I from the perspective of a casual gamer and you from the perspective of a tournament gamer - then what IS the point of this discussion? I would, however, argue that you spend more time playing the game casually than in tournaments; so my question to you is has your casual experience in the game *really* changed as a result of this 3PV controversy?

You know what? I've defended their schedule for a long time, but even I am beginning to get concerned. We're moving at a glacial pace with release just around the corner. When you set a release date, you're supposed to start having aggressive feature drops leading up to it. If you can't deliver on that, then you miscalculated your date. To me and, I am sure, many others, 3PV wasn't one of those "must have" items for release. I don't mind it, but it's not a "must have".

What I expected to see were more CW and UI 2.0 items dropping by now so that they could be tested ahead of launch. If those features hit just prior to launch and are buggy or if they're released after launch, the game is going to be crucified by the game reviewers, particularly since we've way, way overshot the original estimates on CW.

And, honestly, if you're missing dates, you should be telling the community WHY you're missing those dates and indicating how long they're expected to be delayed each time you do. The same holds true of patches.

I'm not going anywhere. I still enjoy the game. I've always tried to be objective and am not table-flipping about anything. However, CW and UI 2.0 *have* to happen soon or I fear what that will do for the prospects of getting new players.

I love the PGI-bashers here. "I hate you and your game but I'm still going to post and whine like a 10-year-old." It amuses me.

I am happy to be of service.

I do not really hate the game though I kind of like it and wish I could play it and have fun like I used to. For now I am waiting to see how they handle things before I start playing again. I will still get my fun from whining like a 10 year old though.

I do sincerely hope you weren't being sarcastic. That would just be mean.

EDIT: I type like PGI code

Is that before or after they forget this game is still in Beta and PGI can do whatever they want with it because it is still in beta?

They just better not pull this stuff once the game launches ;P But it's still beta, so idgaf.

I blame all this forum QQ'ing and PGI protesting on the goons.

Did something get broken during the de-sale downtime? Was mid way through terra therma and suddenly a good chunk of the players disconnected leaving a atlas and catapult standing around doing nothing while our team only had two ghosts (me and one other) along with a catapult trying to beat what didnt dc on the other team (atlas and spider) joy!

2 kills 2 assists 398dmg and a 49k cbill payout, so rewarding.

I'm just curious as to why there is so much hub-bub about an official patch on what would typically be considered a non-patch day? Their patch cycle has remained pretty consistent with the only breaks from the 2 week schedule coming in the form of Hero mechs being added early or hot fixes. And as of right now the next official patch is still September 3rd.

I realize it's close to launch and perhaps some were expecting them to patch today, but therein lies part of the issue. Folks set this expectation for themselves, and then when PGI doesn't meet said expectation they proceed to rant and rave. In what has become an already volatile forum, I can't help but wonder how in the world those that are ranting and raving can begin to think that this would help any cause that they are attempting to champion?

I understand concern and I understand frustration. But please, try not to project those into a perceived failure on PGI's part of not releasing a patch when one had not even been announced for today anyways.

I have this novel idea where PGI tells us what they are going to do before hand and then stick to it. Then there might be less confusion. I think they've been patching continously the last few weeks but I might've been mistaken. So it's a reasonable assumption to make. But then again PGI.

I think I recall reading that they were moving to a more aggressive patch cycle with launch just around the corner. I can't find the precise reference though. That said, my concern also has partially to do with the statement only a few weeks ago that we'd start seeing info coming out about CW throughout August. It just seems that as more big ticket items get pushed back, we're more and more likely to get a buggy implementation for launch if we get anything at all. I wouldn't be as concerned if we weren't so close to the target launch date.

Try 7 kills and 4 assists (11/12 mechs) in a Jenner. 133k C-bills. I'll need another 38-40 matches like that to earn the XL engine for this mech. And I need two more XL engines for the other Jenners. That's effing discouraging.

The rate of earnings is so frustrating that, rather than encouraging Premium Time, I prefer to not play.

This is true. For the Official "Launch" they want to have a stable code base, so I would think they would slow it down or even have a code freeze a week or two before "Launch". We will see. There is very little time right now between now and "Launch". I see them playing it safe.

That was part of my point though as in this case, there was no note of a patch to be released this week, only that they were going to bring the servers down at the end of the sale. They've been pretty consistent with the patch schedule overall, and that schedule has been main patches every 2 weeks. The previous patch happened the 20th, so our next main patch would be the 3rd.

As to the aggressive patch schedule portion Gallowglas, I believe what you're referring to was a note made by Paul in one of the Command Chair posts about aggressive weapon balancing. This alone wouldn't drive the patch schedule up however.
Edit: And typically deviating from an established code and compile schedule to be overly aggressive can lead to some other issues that they would not want to have crop up come launch day, current issues not withstanding.

That is the equivalent to a first world problem in the BT universe. C-Bills suck right now, but since this is supposed to be a lore based game, it's accurate as far as the story goes. I like my immersion thank you.

Couldn't agree more. I'm nervous and worried, not angry.
I do worry about the cbill nerf ruining the game for me, but I know I could be wrong.
I worry a lot about the release date and new player experience, but acknowledge it could be fixed.

Personally think it could be an amazing game in a year if they can keep enough customers to keep developing ythe game.

Bad communication remains the number one problem, and it's not fatal if they work kn it. Heck, it took blizzard almost 10 years to really get decent at it.

hunk of junk? theres a long list of things Id do to improve this game.... yes..
but a hunk of junk.. I dont think so son.
THe combat is by and large just fine. The meta is exponentially better with 12v12 so I dont know what your problem is.

I have a pissa all by my lone wolf self every night playing my lovely mixed load out mechs along with plenty of other good pilots.
