game is being crossed developed for xbox one (ps4?) ?

With the current stance and targeted demographic statements along with information and a lil research from the
http://mwomercs.com/...brief-feedback/

it is revealed they are using "a third-party implementation called STLPort"

in the discussion thread it was questioned on why they are doing this ?

and its speculated they could be doing it for cross platform compatibility

doing more research into this you find out that on a windows system stlport is not even necessary .

they could just use stl and save them selves a whole lot of trouble .

what this speculation explains .

1st. it explains 3pv . console player base would demand a 3pv view.

2nd. it explains targeted demographic they are projecting that the console base will be larger than the pc base and thusly they need to target the console market rather than the pc market

3rd it explains the delays as they are working on two code bases instead of one.

4th explains pip mode being such an issue ? (its expensive consoles dont have the resources for expensive effects)

looking at their reactions lately this theory puts thing in a more understandable context.

i hope its not true.

This could be totally valid, I would imagine since PGI has not had the best of history with PC titles.......They would want to make a quick jump to another demographic where attention to detail and exceptional tolerances will be lost forever. Way to lower your standards PGI (after The Duke Nukem incident.) you'd think they should be @ rock bottom already  Not wanting a more dumbed down anything. Its not enough to make the players money, now they want the kids parents money since pc gamers are too smart for your half-baked attempts.......

Is there not a saying "Quality over quantity" makes me wonder what kinds of minds are running the show over there.........

I do understand that, as a game, mwo is in a fairly constant state of flux. Things will be constantly adjusted, tweaked, etc. For the most part I actually agree with the decisions made - or at least the idea behind them.
With 3PV, I agree with what their intentions seem to be (keep new players, get them used to mech controls), but forcing it on people like this has been the only decision I'm entirely against, for reasons others have covered quite well.
With that said, I don't see why there can't be some fairly simple middle ground. Players can currently use the camera drone (aka 3PV) to peek across the battlefield quite safely - so make the camera drone a little more visible, and vulnerable to enemy fire. Flash a warning that it's taken out to let new players know what happened, and hammer home on training grounds and tutorials for the new folk.
That's my attempt at constructive criticism anyway.

what i want to know is, how within a week they already have information on player retention and 3PV.

are their standards for retaining players only 1 week? (since thats only how long its been since 3PV has been implemented)

Its politics, of which nothing can be verified, as truth, its trying to tell us your wrong, and we're right so be quiet, and you have no way of proving otherwise.
Likewise the coment about the traget demograph, is saying we don't care what our core players think, as we don't need you anymore, its the type of management that is prevent in business for the last 10 years, we do nice things to claw in new customers giving them great deals while ignoring or disreguarding any one who has stuck with them, look at car insurance, your internet ,satalite tv provider, they all do this.

Its a way of saying shut up or go away, and if you don't shut up we'll take the option out of your hands.

Everything mentioned other than further improvments of hsr is now going to be later than it was in june, starting to look like its going to be exactly the same at launch with the word beta removed lol..but I guess we'll see

I don't understand the notion that console players don't want good immersive sim games, I don't hold a PC vs Console Bias i play both and enjoy them, I enjoy Halo and Quake. And when it comes to mech games i have a controller for my console bigger and more expensive than anything on PC that only works for one game "Steel battalion" so any time i see this notion come up that console players want less from a game than PC gamers i become very confused.

Also Console player have to spend just as much if not more to play all the console games due to exclusivity deals requiring them to buy 3 machines rather than PC users who buy one that plays many more games.

I would really like to see an end to this flawed argument as it has no basis in reality.
People buy and enjoy the types of games they like regardless of platform.

We interrupt this whine to bring you some actual feedback:
I agree with you completely about the threats. It's childish and counterproductive, and I'm glad you guys aren't tolerating it. It's a game FFS.

But you guys totally should have made / should make a separate post addressing threats. It needs its own visibility, separated from the rest of this content and feedback. Putting it in a creative director's update is poor form (in the sense that it's odd, off-putting, unrelated, and against the general tone of the rest of it).

Would it be weird to have a sticky saying "Hey guys, please quit threatening us or our families and stop telling us to commit suicide?"

It might give the wrong impression to the target demographic about the "vocal minority," I know I'm amazed about some of the things some posts have said.

Last I checked the average xbox player was male and in his 30s, and this had been true since the original xbox. The stereotypical console gamer/pc gamer dichotomy is a fantasy.

My problem isn't 3rd person having an advantage. My problem is 3rd person existing at all after your promises and existing without "hardcore" (good job attempting to marginalise players with terminology btw) which you later promised.

None of our pilots like 3PV either, but in all the organized/tournament 12v12 stuff that we do, I can quite honestly state that I can count on one hand the number of times anybody has used 3PV.

That is why PGI are stating its a great success, because no one uses it.. makes total sense to me.. errr wait..

I've been on xbox live since 2004. Demographics vary depending on the game and the time of day you're playing (eg if you play when it's after 3 but before 5 in the time zones on either coast in the United States you're going to see a much higher kid to adult ratio than normal for reason I hope are obvious). Also, note that you can only tell if they're twelve if they sound like they're twelve, and you remember the players who won't shut up more than the ones that are silent. It's a recipe for confirmation bias. For the most part the only xbox games I play online are FPSs, specifically the mainstream franchises generally regarded as having the most obnoxious community, yet most matches are almost totally silent, and total shitlers are relatively few and far between. If anything, it's gotten less obnoxious since the original xbox.

According to Microsoft's analysis. I don't have the magazine with me so I can't look up the methodology. That said, the post I was replying to explicitly said "mommys [sic] cc#."

Edit: This is of course totally off-topic so I'm willing to let it drop. My point is that talking trash about people based on their preferred electronic gaming platform is really, really stupid and adds absolutely nothing positive to this or any discussion anywhere ever.

no new feautures coming in september?

I would not think they would with "Launch" close at hand. If they are going to do more marketing and expecting an uptick in people taking a look at the game, they are going to want a stable code base, and introducing new features close to "Launch" can possibly destabilize the code. They may possibly institute a general code freeze soon, with only "emergency" patches being added.

First of all, everyone can get a component destruction by removing an arm or a leg so your initial argument is invalid.

As for a kills and an assist.
You can not get the killingblow (which is a component destruction) if you get an assist.
Due to that an assist and a kill yields the exact same amount of money.
The amount of money you get for disecting a mech has nothing to do with this.
The buttom line is that a kill and an assist gives the same amount of money.

Edit - le typos 2 stronk

Need some follow up .. why then is the amount of C-Bills awarded for a single assist higher than for a single kill? If you don't take the "component destruction" in consideration, then - given by the way it's shown in the "end-of-battle"-screen - an assist earns higher rewards than a kill.

With launch just a few weeks away, and the rage still present on the forums, will PGI really want these topics hanging around for launch day? I smell another forum re-organisation!
