When you make a free-to-play game, you as a developer are obligated to keep creating content for the players, at least for a while, and you're obligated to balance the content as it comes out, make changes as necessary, etc. So sure, while the player's input matters very little to the developers of the next Mass Effect game because they're telling a story and the game balance doesn't really matter that much, at some point PGI decided to make MWO instead of Mechwarrior 5, and at that point they had to be committed to continuous support of their game, and supporting the game means figuring out what is broken with the old content and what new content needs to be added. It's hard to do either of those unless you interact with the community- therefore, there exists a burden for PGI to communicate with the game instead of facing the forums with a wall of silence.

I'm willing to let it slide given that we did just get a huuuuuuuuge post about CW in which Bryan actually answered a bunch of questions; it would be nice to have though, I agree.

If you take screenshots that are not setup to look beautiful and those that are you crop, resize, stretch and in general compress the hell out of to get as much compression noise in there, as well as pick shots from obviously broken times or taken with lowest quality settings and put them next to ones that are the complete opposite, then you get that :D But hey, haters gonna hate, just now a days it seems that lying is the best base of operation. Maybe we're seeing a new generation of players?

While I'm sure the game could always look better, it still looks pretty solid to begin with, and the screenshots you'll find at the above posts are a good example of just that.

Many of those features were scheduled for release over six months ago, right?

The development schedule was thrown for a giant loop when pgi had to troubleshoot unforseen code issues. The bugs themselves seemed random so creating the circumstances that would even produce the issue in order to troubleshoot it took weeks because the issue was in the engine's code itsel. Once they tracked the issue down to which module of CE3 it was they realized they had to rewrite and test a significant portion of CryEngine's own code. This was a huge undertaking that took resources away from content and feature development and put the schedule behind by "months". Im not sure how many.

So yes, the plan was to have more content and features by now. Thats why launch was so underwhelming. However, pgi is working hard to rollout UI2.0 and the first layers of CW. Weve waited nearly 10 years. We can wait a little longer.

The funny thing is that Star Citizen uses the exact same engine, and is going to benefit from all the work that PGI did debugging the Cryengine code. And, of course, the haters in the crowd will point to Star Citizen as an example of a company that doesn't suffer from the same issues that PGI is dealing with.

Hate for hate's sake.

Star Citizen could afford to actually hire crytek people to help them out too, which they have done.

Wasnt one of PGI's issues that bugs being discovered with the cryengine wernt being shared with other dev teams along with the fixes that fallowed so they were having to do it all the hard way themselves?

See what I mean, everyone? The people Star Citizen hired from Crytek are the ones who created the error in the first place, that PGI had to find and fix. Of course, that is treated as a Star Citizen win ("we hire programmers who made critical bugs!") and a hit against PGI ("They had to track down the bugs themselves, like amateurs!").

It's like opposite world around here some days.

Never played MW:LL. Some of these maps look really beautiful. The dry field at the top... the night map with stars and good moonlight.. the heavily forested area with trees that that are maybe tall enough to cover lights but with assaults well above them...

PGI, hook a mechwarrior up with some assets like this. Even changing river city night to have some cool moonlight and stars would transform the character of it. I'm not a computer guy, but is it possible to purchase the sculpture work from the MW:LL guys and save costs on building maps from scratch? I think the community would wholly support you. Any case, great post from Protection.

yup, my mwo experience looks way better then his. he either is on a pentium II 200 or he has his settings way low, that cataphract also looks a little lanky...nice pic to the troll who posted the "comparison"

Yep. For a more accurate comparison, I highly suggest that people check out the Perfect Screenshot Thread, which highlights just how good this game can look. Granted, a lot of the screenshots are older from when the game looked better (not often you say things like that) but it still does look a darn sight better than in the screenshots in that composited image.
