The model has become known for its versatility and is considered a jack of all trades throughout the Inner Sphere. With the same electronics package as the Phoenix Hawk

Well, but for MWO nowhere ist stated taht it will have ECM, right?

nope I haven't seen anything from MWO, the PHX-1b has the ECM, not sure about PHX-1 I assumed it did. but if the Wolverines electronic gear is base on the PHawk it might have a good chance of ECM. my bad if my research led me to the wrong conclusion.

An ECM would be a reason to get the Package.

"Electronic Gear" is fluff. A few Phoenix Hawks have ECM, the -1b, the -2, the -4L, the -4W. The first two are Star League era variants, the later two are at least 10 years away. There is one variant of the Wolverine, the -9W2, that carries ECM. It's not available until 3068 however, so your kids might have a chance to pilot it, if MWO is still up and running in 18 years.

Well, the wolverine does get ECM eventually:

Quote

WVR-9W2 - An ER Medium Laser and ER Small Laser provide close range firepower. An Artemis IV system attached to an MML-5 and a pair of Light PPCs provide long range firepower. A C3 Slaveshares targeting data, while a Guardian ECM Suite disrupts enemy electronics. Light Ferro-Fibrous armor and CASE protect the Wolverine. Seven Improved Jump Jets improve mobility. BV (2.0) = 1,480[36]

But the 9W2 is a long ways off. We aren't anywhere near that tech base yet.

Also, the ECM version of the Shadow Hawk (1b) screams hero mech:

Quote

PXH-1b "Special" - Referred to as the Phoenix Hawk "Special," the 1b was used by the Star League's Royal units. It utilizes an XL Engine as well as Endo Steelfor its chassis, which allowed the designers to upgrade its weaponry. The pistol-like laser is upgraded to an ER PPC, while an ER Large Laser finds its way onto the torso. Double heat sinks keep these high-heat weapons from overwhelming the 'Mech. A Guardian ECM Suite improves the 1b's defense, while adding CASE virtually ensures that the MechWarrior will survive an ammunition explosion[5]. BV (2.0) = 1,512[6][7]

Your quote describes a PhoenixHawk, not a ShadowHawk.

They look darn cool, but I pretty much only play heavies nowadays. It's tempting, but I keep wondering if they are going to spring another similar package sometime soon...

Since you need to buy a Phoenix pack, wouldn't it be when the Phoenix pack drops? ie October

I actually sent a PM to Garth asking this question, and he said that the date has yet to be determined, but seemed to think we'd be able to buy the Saber Package for a short while after the Phoenix Package preorders have ended. As there is yet no date for the end of the Phoenix Package, it should still be for a while yet.

Come on folks... keep your purchases coming in. Why should buy?
  • You help the Devs continue funding the game
  • You get tons of 'Mechs + 'Mechbays
  • You get special perks for Project Phoenix
  • + Spend extra for the Saber Reinforcements!
  • And hopefully we can all have a cool Flame pattern!
  • And I think this is a better deal than the Founder's Program!
Most of all... more giant-robot-stomping-nerve-pounding-fun! LOL! ;)

Hero mech with ECM? Will never happen, the P2W crowd would have a field day even if it had no weapons or AMS hardpoints.....

And BTW, your quote is a Phoenix Hawk, which will I`d guess 99% never be in the game due to Harmony Gold owning the rights... then again, we sais teh Reseens would never come, either, so that`s the 1% ;)

You can make a 45-ton jump capable 'mech with fully functional arms containing hardpoints for energy and ballistic weapons called a Phoenix Hawk with no issues from HG whatsoever as long as it uses new art.

All of the art used for 'mechs in MWO is new art.

Distinct likeness comes into play thats why.

People want a Pheonix Hawk that looks like a Phoenix Hawk, the artwork for the original pheonix project and the clan variants well they suck monkies, this sale has worked because they look like the originals, and the art and 3d department did a good job, though the locust isn't stork leg scrawny, its a good likeness.

You can make a mech look like a currant bun and call it a Pheonix Hawk, but it will bomb and the development time wasted along with the money, thats why HG still have to be pacified, even if it sucks.

Why you shouldn't buy:
  • Blatant cash grab(s)
  • Ghost Heat is still a solution looking for a problem
  • Zero work on pilot skills since open beta
  • No Phoenix Hawk/Wasp/Stinger/Crusader

Ghost heat has nothing to do with the Saber Reinforcement package.
Pilot skills have nothing to do with the Saber Reinforcement package.
Phoenix Hawk/Wasp/Stinger/Crusader aren't options, if you don't know why you haven't been paying attention.
...
Buying the Saber Reinforcement package makes the negative nancies cranky.

Get the Saber Reinforcement package.

Since PGI is a non-profit corporation, they should be ashamed of trying to make a "cash grab."

Oh wait.......

The only people who will win if they do that is the lawyers. And frankly, I'd rather see a lot more productive things done with the money people are spending on the game.

It would be much cheaper to just license the damn mechs.
