Splash Damage or not?

How do you feel.
Should there be splash damage when a mech blows up?
If yes explain why.
If no explain why.
Or should there be away to turn the feature on or off if it's in game.

If you take out the pilot, then it should just fall over,

That said, 'mechs shouldn't go critical and obliterate everything nearby. If a 'mech does explode, either partially or entirely, it should just be an instant close-range (say, melee range) blast that causes marginal damage and jolts the screen of anyone standing close enough to get hit.
And a similar effect for ammo explosions if you're standing right next to the victim when it cooks off.

Yep, for ammo explosions, there should be.
Especially the if it is a mech like the one in the mechlab vid http://mwomercs.com/...deo/dPoqjslGcO0
1200 damage of machine gun ammo going BOOM, and doing a chain reaction into the AC/5 ammo in torso LOL.
Would love to see if they scale that explosion any bigger then say, an ammo explosion in center torso just big enough to destroy the mech

This is in the lore, it's not a nuclear core explosion. It's from the venting of white hot plasma from a sudden core breach. Now alot of you will say, oh noes, the Mech fusion reactors were totally safe. Well maybe from a nuclear event, but not from a venting plasma flash.
Anyway, I just think the rare core breach of white hot plasma is part of what is expected from the MechWarrior lore and MWO is missing out on a major sci-fi element of MechWarrior. An ocassional core failure would add great depth to MWO gameplay and Lore. That's stuff that Hawken can't easily match. Hawken, at least right now, is lacking in underlying depth elements.

The only exception I would say is if their ammo is hit or cooks off.

I do not want it to do any damage worth mentioning as that would only lead to a lot of people suicideing (or just bumrush and blow them self up) and if it does not real damage it is a pointles feature, could they make the ammo coocking a bit more graphical.. sure but again low priority.
As for the mech going supernova.. that was due to a few sci-fi writers either not doing their research or applying the "rule of cool" and this is ok in a book where everything is controlled. In a game it is not really as fun.

Having what equates to a suicide bomb attached to each and every mech is just begging for griefers to exploit it.

Actually the result of a tank cooking off its ammo doesn't significantly impact any tanks around it. Splash damage probably is not realistic, unless we are talking point blank range.
