I've been playing this game about 3 days. I did find it pretty fun.

I'd just like to give a big thanks to those pro lances that like to pwn newbies like me and then trash talk about how good they are.

Thanks for encouraging new players to play other games and thanks for showing how this community has a nice supply of tards.

well who pissed in your Wheaties?

not that I condone that kind of behavior... but is this your first online multiplayer game? people talk trash, big deal, don't take it so personally. instead, wonder what it is in them that makes them feel gratified by talking trash. after all it's just a video game.

plus if you just go, "sorry i'm new" then most would go, "oh..." and feel like a dork, as they should.

Out of curiosity EmDee, as a new player did you find the 3pv helpful?

It's a recent addition that has a lot of the sim fans in the community quite irritated since it lets people look around corners/over cover, yet doesn't always let you see which way your legs are going.

As a new player what are your experiences with the 3pv cam?

Edit> EmDee your title is a bit controversial and will bring the modhammer down sooner or later. Could you edit your post to change it to 'chocolate thieves' or something else rated G?

Calling people tards has just wiped any feelings of support I may have had for you.
I work with people with learning disabilities and I hate the word.
Given up after 3 days? just because you have gotten beaten a few times? coward...you don't deserve the mech.
You could have asked in game for help many here would have given it.

I've been playing a couple of weeks or so now. Had to deal with my fair share of comments too, but as above, just state you're new and most people will be happier to offer advise rather than carry on with taunting you. Keep plugging away.

Oh, and in my own answer to Tolkien above, I've removed the "start in 3PV by default" tick in my settings. Don't like it, don't want it. Much happier playing in 1PV

I don't know whether you did this, but if you type something along the lines of "I'm fairly new at this -- sorry." in team chat you will generally find a pretty forgiving audience. The people you find most helpful/kind are the ones you want to make in-game friends with. Generally speaking they will be willing to help you get better in later drops. Try to ignore the negative comments, especially those from your adversaries, and if your team happens win 12-0 never, ever type "gg" in all chat.

If the game is an absolute curb stomping for or against my team I try to type 'gg was close' to point out something went terribly wrong with the matchmaker, or with the strategy (or lack) used. It's not meant to offend, just to point out that something went terribly wrong :)

If my team stomped the other team, I never type gg in all chat because I know how it feels getting stomped and having the winner say "good game". I will however type things in team chat about how well we did. If on the other hand my team loses 0-12, I will generally type, " gg - well-played enemy team", because losing like that is an indicator of how effective their strategy was, or in some cases how sad ours was in comparison.

I clearly read every post in chat with a sarcastic tone of voice in my head. When I have been on the wrong end of a 12-1 mauling - seeing someone write "gg, was close" just sounds like a sarcastic jibe. It wasn't close. I don't need the jubilant enemy rubbing my nose in it. The score speaks for itself.

It's all about how the reader interprets it and, as much as I try and grow up, losing makes me a bit cranky. Meaning is lost in text and, even if well-meant, any kind of commentary from a team that has won by a huge margin is likely to come across poorly by sarcastic jaded old hacks like me.

It says more about me than it does about you.

Sooooo... your first post on the New Player forums is a QQ because you lost, badly I suspect, and got trash talked in an Internet MOBA. OK.

This in a game where there is no sign, no label, nothing to indicate an individual players skill level. So the enemy team had no idea you were a newb. Neither did the Blue Team. (well we could consider the PGI tag to indicate total newb unfamiliar with how the game is played but still)

You didn't stop by for any advice before this QQ.

GJ!

True fact - the uber leet douchenozzles that kicked your *** then trash talked you? Those were just new douchenozzles that did well, but I guarantee not long after rolling you someone curbstomped all of them.

High end (Hell even medium tier) players tend to say little more then "GLHF/o7" then rapeybattle fallowed by "GG".

If people are trolling, don't feed them.

If your on a winning side of a stomp keep it classy, likely it was matchmaker and not pilot skill that was the leading factor.

Most of the uh, "l33t" players you'll find when you first start aren't actually too much better than yourself. They either do well, are playing in a group, or have already bought and/or upgraded their mechs early. Thing is most players at that level who act like that haven't been able to leave the "new player pool" of ELO (the matchmaker that determines an "average" skill level and throws people in) for the entire time they've played.

That kinda means they're...pretty bad.

You'll find the mid to higher ends of the community to be much better behaved.

For example... http://mwomercs.com/...pilot-koniving/
And
http://mwomercs.com/...er-light-pilot/

Also, the game will become a lot easier once you have your first mech and can customize it away from standard heatsinks. With the current system, until you amass 30 tons of Standard heatsinks you can't compete with doubles. For some reason due to the way the system works, 10 doubles with rising thresholds (limits to shutdown) is according to a ratio calculator, 2.6 times superior in ability to single heatsinks.

At 15 tons of doubles and 30 tons of singles, the singles lead the way by 3 points of threshold, and slightly faster cooling. At 20 doubles, the threshold is 64, the cooling is 64-30 base = 34/10 = 3.4 per second. At 40 singles, it's 70 threshold and the cooling is 70-30 = 40/10 = 4.0/second. But this superiority only works for non-mastered mechs. While the cooling rate improves equally for both, it seems one of the 2x elite level heat containments (1x gives 10% more, 2x gives 20% more) does not work on singles. It's that or one of the cool runs doesn't work, either way once a mech is elite doubles are almost equal.

Since most mechs can't hope to carry 30 or 40 tons of heatsinks, it'll be a good idea to upgrade to double heatsinks as soon as possible once you have a mech.

Have you decided on one you might like?

Also in the "Beta" there is no match-making system so there is no way for the "Uber Leet Pro (Freshness products)" to avoid stomping noobs.

I experience trash-talk very rarely. Most of this community is quite cooperative although not exactly communicative in matches.
You probably ran into a bad bunch. Don't judge by a few idiots :)

Remember, its just a game. No matter how much time you've spent playing, how much money you've spent on it, its just a game. You can walk away at any time with no real penalties. Most likely you're playing for the competition, for the experience of being a Mechwarrior, or both. You're not doing this to pay your rent, or to keep your job, or any actual real-life stress. Keeping that it mind makes it much, much easier to brush aside all the twats you encounter, and keep your head in the game.

Additionally, a positive experience is almost always stronger than a negative experience. Surround yourself with like-minded people when playing the game, makes any multiplayer game so much better. You should never be simply tolerating a game, you should be enjoying it.

Just like real life, you're gonna' run into douchebags from time to time. Try to ignore them and, whatever you do, don't feed them after midnight.

Sport is sport, and games are not an exception. If a person is bantering with you and boasting about his skill, there is nothing bad about it. If he uses rude language toward you, report him by using the PRINT SCRN button and then sending the email to the support team.
