Wow, my first patch and its horrible, obviously have to wait till the servers are back to see just how much, but this feels like a real kick in teeth.

This may have completely nerfed 2 of my 4 mech's and an entire variant that I'd be progressing towards mastering, in which case I don't see much point bothering paying up to extend my mech bay or grinding to get a big brawler mech.

Thing is in my hundreds of games to date i've never once felt the PPC over-powered, sure, i've encountered a few cheap shot gauss, but thats life. Its not as if in my Cicada I can alpha one-shot snipe anything anyway, not even a perfect cockpit shot with double ERPPC, so what were all the complaints? Neither is it like I couldn't be easily countered, just send a light and unless I can run away i'm probably toast, send any two mechs and its all over.

Can't help feeling this is not about snipers but the fact that your big *** heavies can stack a load of these things and other weapons to get a massive alpha strike, which frankly this patch will do nothing to fix, other than make them have to wait a little longer between shots, which is irrelevant when alpha striking and not as if it gives you much more time to take them down anyway.

Like I said i'll try it out before passing judgement, but at the moment it feels like my first few weeks of MWO have been for nothing, that i'm going to end up having to be like everyone else and grind up for the heaviest slowest mech out there and just brawl to death or completely re-tool my cicada and become a vulture. Maybe i'll go back to my Cat and LRM spam for assists, though I see LRM's getting a lot of hate recently in public, so no doubt they will be nerfed next and i'll have nothing in my mech bay to play with. So sad.

Oh and the biggest irony of this patch is not lost on me, with an improvement to the almost completely useless advanced zoom module, that was 5000 GXP and 2m c-bills of waste, which might now be useful, except that i'll probably not be able to run a sniper build on my mechs anymore.

So... Still no fix on the kintaro damage magnetism? Rush out a new mech though, huh? Wonder if this one is bug-free... Nerfed Gauss and PPCs, but not the AC20s? So... Now the only ranged weapons we're going to see are auto cannons. Remember when this game had variety? I'm predicting a HUGE influx of LRM boats, and AC dakka.
Big Thumbs down

You should probably read over the post again, they did make fixes to the Kintaro, and on a side note the Orion was a LONG awaited mech by many of the community.

The AC20 didn't need a nerf, in reference to the gauss it fired slower (especially now), at a much shorter range, carried less ammo, and expelled more heat. Now the gauss will be relegated to pure sniping as it should, where as the AC20 will be the brawler weapon.

On the note of sniping, snipers can still do their thing...its just that those same weapons can no longer be used just as effectively for close range brawling anymore, as it should be. If with the hotter ppcs, so long as they're firing them at a range they can still take cover and cool off.

There will still be sniping, but as I already said, they'll now be used just for sniping rather then as an answer to every range.

Totally overnerfed sniping.

This patch just killed the (ER) PPC:
- Bump of base heat for both PPCs
- reduction of projectile speed
- PPC damage under 90m has been reduced to 0
You effectively reversed every buff for PPCs since closed beta
PPCs are back to closed beta levels aka. ERs are unusable and standard are actually even worse now with the removal of damage below 90m

The balance wasn't far off prior to this patch, a little buff for brawling and then sniping as well as brawling would have been equally viable.

Instead you decided to kill sniping and make brawling the way to play.

I don't understand why you are not aiming at making both playstyles viable at the same time. If you in fact did aim for that, then you failed horribly - again.

You don't hit a waepon system with 3 big nerfs in one patch guys, you just don't.
When people asked for more frequent game balance changes, gradual & small adjustments where meant, not the biggest sledgehammer you could possibly come up with.

Facepalm PGI.

Do you guys have memories? Why do you have to screw up the balance so dramatically?

It's mind-boggling how you guys manage, patch after patch, to do the most ridiculous things.

I want to like you - but you make it so easy to dislike you. It's like you want to **** people off.

Small sequential nerfs, moderate buffs - this is the key to keeping things balanced. PPC projectile speed - good. Add lots of heat at the same time - bad. 0 damage PPC under 90m change, too - bad.

What were the original heat values for PPC / ERPPC? What was the original damage of a PPC under 90m? Don't forget why you made these changes in the first place.

It's like trying to help a lemming from running off a cliff, patch after patch.

Wall - face - repeat.

Seems to me that the game will change, and provides another reason NOT to spend real cash on this game. I see it as one step further to pay to win. Congrats on the patch though, it will cause player base to drop even more. With the Ghost heat still in place on the LL the Light mechs will still be running rampant. Removing the ability of heavies and Assault mechs to effectively fight a light.

So when will the NERF on the LRM boats come into play?

So disappointed, just fix the game or it will die.

Anyway, where the hell is that ppc supposed to be? Looked like it was located in the elbow of the mech

One thing I don't agree with is the gauss changes. Seems silly to nerf something that explodes when you look at it (unless they changed it) and is unbelievably heavy at 15/t... Not to mention the 3 tons of ammo it needs to be effective. I would rather have a much simpler change, yet still keep the "charging" aspect.

"Press and hold" button to charge (0.75sec), "release" button at "any time" after initial charge to fire. Yes, this means that you can keep that weapon "primed" to get a quick first shot off, but will still require a re-charge before engaging again. Charge time can be adjusted/balanced to keep this a sniping weapon, but I think 0.75-1sec is a good place for it.

This was the first good patch in a while, good job PGI. If you keep putting out good patches like this you may get my $30 for the saber reinforcement pack or if you put hardcore mode in I'll toss as much money as I can at the game. :)

Great patch! The Gauss nerf is forward looking so they can eventually add the Annihilator.

Hmm... okay the PPC of today is faster than the Gauss was before that patch. And you were able to hit with Gauss before. Why you should be now unable to hit things with PPC?

you'll be unable to hit things with PPCs only if you are very very bad

As it should be.

Nice that PPC and ERPPC are finally back at their TT values. You can get rid of ghost heat now :-)

I second this emotion.

I think the gauss change seems interesting.

Swapping the velocities with the PPC family is a clever touch.

I absolutely will test before passing judgement (as indeed should we all) but my gut feeling is the PPC nerf is over cooked. Three big nerfs in one patch (heat, velocity and minimum range) seems dangerous. However, my mind is open (though worried).

Excited to try out advanced zoom!

Pleased at Kintaro fix!

Nice to see the tutorial, though personally I think I have the hang of movement by now :)

Orion looks awesome and I love that paint job. Too rich for my taste but look forward to seeing it strut its stuff.

Still work to do though PGI... Get in UI 2.0 by launch and you may just pull it off.

Good luck.

Y'know, at this point, I don't know if NGNG is "official" or not, but they're definitely on top of things insofar as releases go. So I would give this a high level of credence.

I'm absolutely dumbfounded at the changes to the gauss. How many times have you been told that the gauss/PPC problem is primarily down to PPCs? The fragility of the gauss was always its crutch and many times I'd take an AC/10 over it.

The UAC and LBX were both equally appealing in their own way and if you had the space to mount it, the AC/20 would usually have preference over the gauss.

Now I know this sounds disrespectful but I am pretty angry that I don't use PPCs in any of my mechs but a gauss in 1 of them. Whoever is in charge of deciding what changes are made, I demand you be removed from the production team immediately.

I think what quite a few folks seem to be forgetting about PPC's and their previous issues in closed beta was that they were nigh unusable pre-HSR as your chance to hit was pretty low. Couple that with higher heat and you now have a weapon that you are gimping yourself with.

Now that HSR has been implemented and as of this patch, further tuned, you have a weapon with higher heat but a generally much better chance to hit. PPC's have enjoyed quite some time as a premier every situation style weapon, but now you'll actually have decisions to make based on how you play.

Regardless, I think it's best to actually playtest the changes before outright saying that they're bad or that PPC's are suddenly unusable.

Edit: Thontor beat me to it.

PPC's did need a nerf, but not a nerf like this; we're going back to closed beta now, where no one used PPC's because the extra range and one point of damage wasn't worth the increased heat. Even K2's ran 4xLL instead of 2xPPC's, 2x[energy weapon]. Now, I will concede that we didn't have DHS back then, and that is a serious consideration. Regardless, however, I would not be surprised if we saw the PPC fall away completely (As in, none/very few pilots mounting them) in favor of Large Lasers once again.

And regarding the Gauss Rifle? Just... I'll give it a chance and see how it is, but adding a gimmick like this is just weird. Apparently, everyone's Gauss Capacitors and targeting computers got set back about... oh, 200 years. I thought the Succession Wars were over.
