Wouldn't it just have been easier to literally remove PPCs and ERPPCs from the game? You have completely killed a playing style.

Were you all touched inappropriately by particle man as a child? If so, your revenge is complete.

So here you have it. They Might be Giants prophecy finally comes true:

Quote

Triangle man hates particle man

They have a fight, Triangle wins
Triangle man

[Edit] Particle man didn't stand a chance with triangle man carrying PGI's sledgehammer. Were three different departments tasked with nerfing particle weapons or something?

Please PGI: your nerfbat is way too OP. Please nerf it now. It's a recipe for disaster. Just a little continuity might be nice for a change if you expect us to keep spending money on things. Your casual approach to making such large changes is resembling bait and switch advertising.

Back then we had no HSR so the problem with PPC's was that you simply couldn't hit with them. What we have now is same heat, still more speed than then and HSR. These PPC's we have are a huge deal better than in closed beta even after this patch.

Another problem was that they were way too hot. Don't you remember how welcome the change was when the heat was lowered to be more manageable? Everyone (including me) loved that the PPC and ER PPC were finally viable. Now there's no point to carrying them, and add that every other map now is a hot map too.

Y'know, at this point, I don't know if NGNG is "official" or not, but they're definitely on top of things insofar as releases go. So I would give this a high level of credence.

I'm asking because the overrall quality of the video is dysmal... if they want to market their game to non MWO players, they need to make their videos a little more interesting.

Hell, most MWO videos made by clans are 10 times better than this.

Totally overnerfed sniping.

This patch just killed the (ER) PPC:
- Bump of base heat for both PPCs
- reduction of projectile speed
- PPC damage under 90m has been reduced to 0
You effectively reversed every buff for PPCs since closed beta
PPCs are back to closed beta levels aka. ERs are unusable and standard are actually even worse now with the removal of damage below 90m

The balance wasn't far off prior to this patch, a little buff for brawling and then sniping as well as brawling would have been equally viable.

Instead you decided to kill sniping and make brawling the way to play.

I don't understand why you are not aiming at making both playstyles viable at the same time. If you in fact did aim for that, then you failed horribly - again.

You don't hit a waepon system with 3 big nerfs in one patch guys, you just don't.
When people asked for more frequent game balance changes, gradual & small adjustments where meant, not the biggest sledgehammer you could possibly come up with.

Am I the only one that finds it incredibly amusing how you just happen to know the practical effects of text-based patch notes while the servers are still under maintenance?

You know what? Other then the charge up time (which I am willing to reserve judgement on until I get to use it), the rest looks good. I'll be honest, I did expect a little more with only 1 patch left until launch (I was expecting a game mode and map), but all In all it doesn't look too bad (Seriously guys, the PPC nerfs were needed, LL and LPL now have a reason to exist again).

I dont want to judge this patch without trying out my mechs in the heat of battle, but i think the Gauss charging time was unnececary. But as i said, i ll make my judgment after the first few rounds.

After all i happy to see the Orion coming out, it was a long time... but nevermind. Keep up the good job, and give us more and more ... :)

One would think PGI actually knows what they're doing.

I have to say, except for the Gauss charge thing, which is unnecessary. Most everything here is pretty solid. Glad to see they finally fixed that Advanced Zoom module.

PPC Nerf is good/bad possibly. The should generate more heat...But The PPC should still have retained its velocity I think.

Great patch, besides the PPC/Gauss changes. UAC victor, I guess.

PPC's did need a nerf, but not a nerf like this; we're going back to closed beta now, where no one used PPC's because the extra range and one point of damage wasn't worth the increased heat. Even K2's ran 4xLL instead of 2xPPC's, 2x[energy weapon]. Now, I will concede that we didn't have DHS back then, and that is a serious consideration. Regardless, however, I would not be surprised if we saw the PPC fall away completely (As in, none/very few pilots mounting them) in favor of Large Lasers once again.

The reason PPC's were never used in CB had everything to do with no DHS and Horrible Hit Detection. I assure you, they are still going to be used at 10/15 heat.

On the one hand, the changes sound at least promising? I really can't say if they're good or bad for the gameplay at this point, but I can't wait to check it out. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the servers going online!

On the other hand, my 2ER-PPC HBK-4J is crying. :)

Faith partially restored. I'm not sure how i feel about the gauss charge up time thing, but its a step in the right direction, at least. Especially after the adjustments to the PPC to help keep the weapons where they need to be. The Orion.... well... ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!! YAY!!!!!!

From the patch notes, this is one of the biggest patches in a good long while, good work.

THIS GUY HAS 1 POST and HE'S POSTING TO COMPLAIN! PGI - are you blind to how you are affecting your clients? His first post is complaining about you.

He complains because his builds got nerfed a bit. That's not a proper complaint. That's just being selfish and not caring about the game.

It's very sad - a new patch. It's just too big a nerf.

You know what.....This is the best patch since CB (probably).

PPCs were usable before the heat and speed buff and very much enjoyable, just Hit detection was the issue. Returning back to (close) the old values might make give more reason to bring an Awesome to the party.
I also like the sound of the Adv. Zoom change.

Now.....give us a separate queue for 3pv and some sneak peek screenshots of CW or UI2.0 and I will strongly consider re-purchasing the Overlord phoenix pack :) .

PS. got any screenshots of the Orion? The picture in the Mech description doesn't do it much justice :)
Edit: Just seen the front page. Duh me!
