Also very disappointed that CW hasn't made it in yet.

CW won't show up until next year.

Okay, first: Garth we appreciate all you are trying to do, and generally I try not to throw rocks at the messenger, especially one who seems to be increasingly caught between Scylla and Charybdis.

That being said, this patch seems to be running true to PGI form: make several (drastic) changes to an area of gameplay that would seem, on the surface at least, to correct an issue, but actually creates additional issues in gameplay.

To make it palatable, PGI gives us a new Mech and a new Hero, which they will be glad to charge for, just so that players can swallow the current bit of nasty in the rest of the patch. The feel good placebo will last just long enough to allow the Sept. 'Launch, before we realize we do indeed have a severe tummy ache and maybe need to stop swilling down stuff that is bad for us (and our wallets.)

I'm glad that their is a very basic tutorial, especially only two weeks away from launch. Nothing like sliding home in the last play of the ball game...Now where is the long awaited UI2.0?

Oh, wait, maybe the game needs extra innings for that gem to become available. Or do we need to propose to PGI that we are willing to throw more money at them if we "Please, Pretty pretty please!" Would like to have them actually deliver on a promised element if the game.

Again, Garth hang in there, and if you need a change of career in the next couple of months, hit me up and I'll set you up in the lucrative health care profession here in the States...

Excellent patch IMO.
1. PPC/ERPPC returned to stock TT heat.
2. Orion - Yeah.
3. Gauss - Will have to see how responsive it is.
4. PPC Min range fix = decent to simulate Min Range.
5. Fixing my Kintaro's CT = Epic Win! Won't have to be afraid of coming face to face with other mechs now.

Thoughts,
DHS = need to remove 1.8/2.0 heat now that they have effectively nerfed high heat ppcs.

And for those that haven't looked at Mission Type Selector yet. The PH are already in the UI for HARDCORE!

Maybe bring some backup weapons instead of that extra PPC!

Maybe instead of jumping to conclusions like every other ***** you should know what you're talking about.

I've had a K2 since CB. In OB i changed the PPC's to ERPPC's and put in 20 "DHS". (making it a K3). I've used it enough to know that:
1) 2xML's and 2xMG's only are mostly useless for brawling.
2) PPC's are mostly useless for brawling, even though they did do a little damage.
3) PPC's and ERPPC's at their original heat weren't used because you can barely use them without shutting down.
4) ER/PPC's are in no way sniping weapons. They are just normal weapons like lasers/ballistics. Any weapon with a long range can be called a sniper weapon.
5) The speed i don't really care about. It's hard to miss targets in MWO (except lights)

This "fix" does not nerf sniping in any way because players will just use different weapons.
I've seen this over and over in different fps games. Brawlers whining that they got shot by someone they were too stupid to avoid, and snipers get nerfed into oblivion all the time.
The problem was with all grouped weapons hitting the same area, not with individual weapons.

I'm not saying there aren't good things in the patch, there are. But nerfing PPC's with this heat system is just unbelievable.
My K2 was already my worst mech (for brawling and sniping). I guess i can retire it again.

Btw PGI. My wife never liked ballistics so i showed her a ballistic build i made and she tried it. She is now happily ripping mechs apart in seconds. I suggest a big nerf to AC's next...

nice patch on PPC/ERPPC/gauss, nice snipernerf. for all those now crying, this isn't a sniper but a battlemech game. you want to snipe, well then you have to be good now.

After very well though-out :) changes to (ER)PPCs in this patch these weapons, in fact, got nerfed out of the game.

I sense sharp rise in popularity of CTF-3D and CTF-IM in the nearest future. *sigh*

Tried out the Tutorial for S#@$ & Giggles, nice, but I think a voice-over would go allot further, especially in this day ADHD and people disliking wall of texts. I'm sure George wouldn't mind doing for you...for the right price. lol

You're completely wrong. using (ER) PPCs and Gauss with same effect... even better with zoom working.

Overall a great patch.

On the plus side:

  • Lots of bug fixes, always great

  • Tutorial, better late than never

  • Gauss rifle. I thought it was a weird fix at first, but it works nicely.

  • PPC heat increased. On the way to balance. 15 might be a little too much for ER, though.

  • Advanced zoom. Haven't used it yet, but it sounds good.

  • HSR and hit detection

  • Orion!

On the negative side:

  • No separation of queues. Seriously?

  • PPC zeroed within 90m. Too much. You already buffed the heat to the level it was at when no one was using them.

regular PPCs do 0 damage under 90m? They did {Scrap} for damage to begin with under 90m. Why the change?

So people would stop bringing sniper rifles to knife fights

Tutorial was only about movement, nothing about weapons and such.

Also tried a PUG game it was as horrible as usual.
I set my target that i would stick around till the official launch for things to pick up again, but it isn't looking good at this point.

Just finish a few match in my AWS 8Q PPC sniper.
The new heat is still manageable, just need to chain fire the ERPPCs but switching to standard PPCs allows me to alpha without melting.

Advanced Zoom Module is beautiful!!
It is now almost a must on every sniper build.

Meanwhile, my BJ1 Gaussjack still need some getting used to, but she is not broken by the GR de-syn.

Other than the gauss, this is a move back to canon, where it should be. Nothing complicated about that.

So we should also have 2.0DHS.

Absolutely. It should have been included in this patch, imo.

And 3 heat for ML's.

Where would this poll be?
Knowing the MWO community,
1. I'm sure it's biased
2. I'm sure it's vaguely worded
3. I'm sure "Overwhelming" means like 200 votes

Actually that would be PGI's polls.

I like the patch and I like the changes. Good job PGI.

I don't see the problem with making multiple changes at once and despite some of the scorn and derision it's a brave thing to do and keeps the game evolving nicely.

It's changes like this that make the game more interesting to play.

Looking forward to you adding DX11 and fixing SLI issues now.
