Holding Gauss Charge

I can understand why people would want to make it easier to use, but you need to understand why those of us who have taken the time to practice with it enough to reliably hit at most ranges would be annoyed at attempts to make it easier.
Let's say in real-life, I want to shoot a powerful bow, but I'm not strong enough to pull it back long enough to aim.
Some people would say, "Dammit, I guess I better start working on those arms, so I can handle a bow like that."
Others would contact the manufacturer, asking them to reduce the draw weight, so that they could enjoy the bow as well.
Understandably, the first group of people would be pretty annoyed if the manufacturer gave in, and weakened all future models of that bow, to accomodate those who didn't have as much patience to fix themselves instead of the bow.
This is why this topic will often cause division among players. There's legitimate points to be made, but at the end of the day, PLENTY of pilots have gotten great with the gauss, through good old fashioned practice (which includes early frustrations and failures.) When I can average 400+ per round in my Gauss Cicada with no backup weapons, (and I know many pilots are better than me with gauss,) and consistently outperform enemy LRM boats and Clan Mechs, I just have a really hard time feeling like the weapon is unbalanced.
If anything, I would have voted for the poll option that said, "No, and overcharging may blow your **** to hell."

In my opinion, a Gauss Rifle that must be charged before firing and always explodes when hit does not meet acceptable standards for a military weapon.

Speed vs charge
Whats is the advantage for having heat when charging?
Maybe charging heat vs armor piecing?

still, the charge mechanism isn´t that big of a deal as many people make of it...
i got a feeling you aren´t asking for balance but for easy high damage...

I still say a single Gauss should have no charge-up though. I can't see a problem with that and a 5.5 second recycle.

Although I have learned the charge-up and aiming I still have to agree with you that the charge-up is a terrible idea for a MechWarrior game and the Gauss Rifle should be balanced in some alternative way. Right now it's been made into a Mech sniper rifle like the apocryphal Rail Gun, but to do sniper level damage you need 2xGauss and few mechs have this capability. Just make it a mech Rifle as was intended in Battle Tech.
Plus almost every map in MWO is a brawler map so having a Sniper Rifle equipped mech is really not supported, in fact you could easily assume PGI wants to discourage long range combat over the new player favored brawling range combat. PGI adds Polar Highlands and half the players want it removed because they can't adapt their brawler rigs. rofl!

Ballistics don't generate much heat per DPS and what is the sin in preferring the Gauss over an AC10? The Gauss just makes a better choice when you can only carry one ballistic and an AC20 won't fit.
The charge-up was added just to remove the Gauss Rifle from game-play so it is the worst kind of nerf there is.

in BT the GR can be turned off which means no explosion should the weapon be hit.
While the mwo GR even if it isn't charged it explodes when it shouldn't.
so I say ether give it back its auto charge or remove the explosion when not charged, it is as simple as that.
and no I don't use mwo grs nor would I use them in the future should they become self charged again.

It would be enough to reduce the efficiency of the gauss by reducing ammo to the gauss, 9xERPPC builds arent effective...
