Just unlocked my first Elite modules, and saw one that is called "Pinpoint". It says it increases my weapon convergence speed by fifteen percent. What in god's name does that mean?

Either I am the victim of a newbie troll, or I just spent quite a few experience points on a module that doesn't work, and I am now very angry. And they (PGI) want you to pay money to turn mech xp into general xp...shame on them!

"Convergence" doesn't exist. There is the time required for your arms to align with your torsos, but that comes under the arm speed unlock. So it should do nothing as we have instant convergence, e.g. you point at a mech 200m away, fire and all weapons converge on one spot every time. 800m away? Same.

You still need to get all of them to unlock 2x basic bonus anyway. In my opinion the first elite module you should get is speed tweak, but that's just me.

Well, if it isn't used, PGI should remove that waste of 4,000exp next patch. Or give me back my xp. (Grumbles and leaves in a dejected huff)

To be more precise.

Convergence exists. It's the effect that makes all your weapons converge on the item under your crosshair, regardless of where these weapons are mounted on your mech. If there was no convergence, then you would either need a seperate crosshair for each weapon, or you would have to always mind the distance between your cockpit and the weapon you are currently firing and lead accordingly.

But Pinpoint does nothing, because convergence is instantenous, there is no delay until the weapons converge to a spot.

Still, the skill is not entirely useless - because you need it to elite your mech, there is no way around it. But of course, that just makes it an XP tax.

At one point convergence was not instant, this skill is a relic of that time, nothing more.

the whole skill tree is a relic. It was a place holder for some real trees that never were made. Some things don't even make sense like the basic skills for arm actuators. On mechs which don't have those, lol.

btw. never start with pinpoint, always (like in ALWAYS) take the spead tweak first, don't spend XP on anything else until you have speed tweak. Really, that is the only must have tweak in the whole tree.

It's a holdover from when PGI tried to have a good FPS mechanic.

It is a placeholder for now, the game have went through a few rework that made this skill is no longer needed.
The dev is working on revamping the skill tree, when that happens, all spent EXP on skill will be refunded.

Source? Many of us used to hope for this, but IIRC there is no evidence that they are doing anything with the skill trees. It may be "on the board" but most of the stuff that is actually "in development" is 2014, so skill trees MIGHT be revamped with the clan invasion of 2015.

It's been mentioned in a few ATDs and on NGNG as well (I don't remember specifics, sorry). They are probably waiting for UI 2.0 where they will have pilot levels (based on earned GXP) and unlocks associated with that. That's form the latest NGNG session with Paul. A lot of the changes are waiting on the new UI.

Pilot levels were in fact mentioned, but not specifically with the Pilot Skills. I will be VERY pleasantly surprised if you two are right, however I strongly suspect that the "No resets" thing since Open Beta (actual launch) will preclude any "resets" to our XP...

Even though the Convergence skill is a waste it does help you. When you completely unlock the Elite Tree your Basic Tree skills are doubled.

It is used. It is used to unlock 2X. It just does not do anything by itself, but it is not wasting anything. You will still need it.

I know that when i use jump jets and get hit by A/C it shakes my lasers maybe convergence effects how fast your laser Etc. get back to Center of Cross hair. ok editing if some one does read this, i just finally unlocked arms, from options or i can temporarily unlock arms, by hitting left-shift so im guess convergence is the speed at wich the arms converge back to center cross-hair. good luck

That may have been their position, "at the time"....and we all know how reliable PGI promises are... :P

At one point in time, there was a full second required to 'point' at the target before your weapons adjusted to hit that target. If you fired before this, you'd get "cross-fire" or they would not converge on the target and go around, too.

Pinpoint sped this up.

Before lag compensation was put in, this caused some serious issues especially for overseas players. So PGI changed it to client control instead of server control, and set it instant.

Thus, it means absolutely nothing. Fast fire also does nothing.

Arm speed and torso twist speeds are flipped (torso twist increases arm speed. Arm speed increases torso twist speed). There's a few other quirks too.

The most important ones are cool run, heat containment, the power up one, and speed tweak.

Eventually PGI will be redoing the entire skill tree.

Hmmm... I thought Fast Fire does indeed increase rate of fire ?
There was a patch note from PGI a while back that Fast Fire actually did the opposite of what it was suppose to do.
It actually slowed down the fire rate of before they fixed it.

Fast Fire is apparently one of the causes of AC2 ghost so, that why they increased the cool down of AC2s.
