Balance patches are not something to complain about.

Specific changes, perhaps. But not the action of trying to improve balance.

Welcome to the game OP, enjoy it.

There are lots of good aspects to this game and there is plenty of depth, its not perfect by a long shot but it is improving.

To be honest you are probably best not getting involved in the forums. The forum regulars are one of the most toxic bunch of people I have ever come across in any game. I think its something to do with some mythical beast they call TT around here.

There's also a lot of people with the perception that since they were playing battletech since they were in nappies they have some form of ownership of the game and therefore have the right to abuse PGI as much as they want. I admit PGI have made some fairly big mistakes but nothing to deserve the degree of vitriol I encounter on the forums.

Anyway have fun and if you want to get involved in some team play there are some great merc corps around to play with. In fact if you want some people to play with look up the Windbourne Highlanders. Good bunch of people to play with in either NA or EU timezones.

what prompted me to write was 6 pages of nothing but complaints on Cbills.

There are pretty good reasons why everyone is complaining about the Cbills, and I think you will understand once you have been playing a little longer, and it's not just about "pokemon". Say you have a dozen mechs you are used to playing, that you have set up the way you want. What is going to happen is that the devs will decide to "balance" something in the game, every few weeks. Inevitably, several of the loadouts you have set up will no longer work well, because they have been nerfed.

Now, you have to redo those loadouts, that you already had to grind to pay for. That means more grinding, since you probably need to switch engines on some, so you need millions of c-bills to make these mechs work well again. Just about the time you are finishing grinding out that money and fixing those mechs, the devs come along with another patch and nerf some more of your loadouts.

If you don't have mechs, you have a long grind to get them, master them, and get them customized. If you do have mechs, you have to keep grinding to keep them viable as the devs tinker with the game. You used to be able to get the mechs you wanted, and once you were done mastering, you could collect c-bills until you wanted to master another chassis. Now, it's a never-ending grind.

Slightly off-topic but I just came back from a what, 8-month break and this game is still pretty much terrible. The UI while not in-game is absolutely amazingly bad and in-game the maps are too small for the new increased playercounts. Match balance is terrible, it's always a pushover one way or another, matches apparently aren't balanced by tonnage or skill, they just pick a pool of 24 players and randomly distribute them into teams.

On the plus side, it looks prettier and lag is no longer intolerable. Really, that's all they managed in over half a year?

Actually the graphics have been getting worse to allow lower spec people to play.

:edit:

Perhaps not specifically in the last 6 months though.

In the cannon universe you'd never see or field such a mech anyway, so why should it be viable on here?

Since you pretend you care about cannon, I'll give you a real 'cannon' based answer... it's called incredibly bad game design. As a result, we now have:

Broken Hardpoint System - They should have started out by limiting mechs hard points to cannon, i.e. no 2x Gauss Rifle K2 as they were machine gun sized slots. You would never have seen 6 PPC stalkers as there simply wasn't room to fit them in. I mean, what's going to be the benefit of the Clans and omni-mech technology when they get done 'balancing'? Since they didn't do that, they instead put in...

Ghost Heat - which was a stupid band-aid when they simply should have limited the size of the hard points similar to MW4.

Weird Weapon Balancing - Constantly having to adjust weapons damage/heat/recycle time/jamming back and forth to combat the latest flavor of the month and mass whining. The latest I think is charging mechanics on the gauss rifles in trying to prevent firing a PPC and Gauss at the same time... really?

The list just goes on... ECM and the various counters they tried since they combined multiple systems in one little package, arm locking, LRM fiascos and poor quality control/testing, jump jet speed/trajectory nerfs, taking out knock down, auto-lock on streaks and the various tweaks since hit code is so bad, limiting speed on mechs to combat bad net code.

Let's not forget all the dumbing down of the game either despite tons of the core fan base screaming and most of it completely anti-cannon as well:

3rd Person View - Really was one of the worst things they could have done to the game. I've never read of a mech being able to look over a ridge and see the enemy without risking himself. Should have been a beginner mech mechanic for training them and then they lose that ability down the road.

Locking Arms to Torso

Auto-speed

Knock down removed

List goes on, but in a nutshell... this is a huge step down from what was promised and yes, we have a right to be mad after spending lots of money on a Ferrari and getting a Hyundai instead. Everything they do makes this game more into the same lame 1st person shooter with big body armor that every other game is doing.

i have been playing this game since closed beta and i have to say i agree with the OP. it appears a lot of the replies to this topic are coming from people who did not even read the OP. i do admit some things need to be added and changed but they are working on it. i dont think any of the recent changed have "broken" the game, especially the arguement that PPC/gause is useless now (i still see them used often and effectively in-game).

i hate the grind myself, but its a part of F2P unfortunately; i would've gladly just paid for the game to avoid the grind, now i have to pay for the game multiple times to avoid some of it, and im still stuck grinding. it sucks i know but its a part of the F2P formula.

now i will await the flame...

OP thanks for teaching me not to start an introduction thread. I've started playing some months back, took a break, and have spent a lot of time in game this month. I was impressed with PGI in some ways, in the time i've been here there has been a new map and major feature. Sadly everyone hates the new map (I kinda like it except for a few obstructions, or the heat if I'm in my K2) and 3PV (I think it kills immersion and I needs me a minimap, not bad for running into a swarm of altas though).

I'm used to the got nerfed blues from LOL and other game forums but am surprised to see very very few buffs. Either way if something gets balanced and works better in the big pic that's great, so what if a perfectly tuned mech is now a little weaker. *cough everyone here loves abusing exploits cough*

So yeah good into to the community here, and I hope PGI finds a way to get money out of me cuz the game is fun when matchmaking occasionally makes a balanced set of teams.

PS. forums are where people are supposed to rant, and pray the the devs take note and make the silly teeny tweak immediately to fix a world of ******** from the community. no dev does for any game ever though in my xp.

It's not often that I am glad that PGI ignores the feedback of the people testing their game.

But whenever someone brings up hardpoint limitations I am.

These people don't understand that it would do nothing to stop FotM builds, it would just change which builds are FotM. If PPCs were overpowered in a game with hardpoint limits then the FotM would be whatever mechs can use PPCs best.

All it would have done is meant that instead of the FotM being PPC boating it would be PPC boating in a much smaller selection of mech chassis.

I've only been here a short time and I know that I will need to play a lot of games with the mechs I have to be able to buy anything else. but if you have 1 or 2 chassis that you like, why complain about wanting more so quickly? Sure, it'd be nice to have 2 more mechs to play around with and mess with builds, but I realize I don't have the C-bills for it yet, so I'm going to continue to enjoy playing the GAME instead of playing a pseudo-pokemon and try to collect them all.

I like most of what you said, but I find this to be somewhat of a disingenuous comment. The game currently has two modes of play, but a large numbers of variations on how you play. Those variations are the mechs and the builds, playing different weight classes can really almost be like playing a completely different game. Some of them suit a particular player, some don't but in order to find the things that you like it takes a bunch of c-bills to buy new mechs, kit them out and see how they play. In fact you said it yourself, you started a second account because you made "bad" purchases with your original account cadet bonus. Would you still have the same attitude if you were stuck with your original account and had to slog up the c-bills to buy your stalker and jager the hard way? It has little to do with psuedo pokemon and more to do with experience different variations on the same two game modes and how well an individual enjoys a particular piloting experience. And the majority of trial mechs are pretty bad compared to one that has been modified; the difference in play is night and day. So I do not buy into the trial mechs are a good way to experience the variations in game play, unless you enjoy working 2x as hard as the same mech customized to achieve 3/4 or less of the results.

I am a week into the game and after busting my cadet bonus on a Mech I'm not really totally happy with I have had lots of complaints about the C-Bill gain rate and the low value of MC (and well I also came into the game exspecting factions, clans, companies and maybe even a over arching PVP faction champaign to be going on and get involved in).

However, I will say I am still having lots of fun with the game. I have been a Mech Warrior fan for a long time now, and im just glad to see them put out another Mech Warrior game. I imagine in its current state I'll keep playing for atleast a few more mounths, but unless I see some improvements (Better MC value, more maps and games/types, factions) I dont really plan on forking out any more cash either.

Not sure why the OP is getting forum-ized in the butt. I thought he was being reasonable. Keep having fun, OP... I'm still having fun and I've been here a long time.

You'll find that there are those of us who post about issues without whining about those issues. I think, for example, that the so-called "ghost heat" is a terrible mechanic. I'm optimistic that the devs will see it this way and move back to the simpler traditional heat scale. I think the job that is being done with this complicated mechanic can be done more simply.

Yes, the forums can get a bit whiny, but these issues need discussing IMHO.
