Now that the cbill variants are out what do you guys think about it?

I think its a Kintaro 2.0.

I have had Orions for weeks its really no worse then a chataphact. People aim for the core so most shots land there.

So it's like every other mech that isn't a light.

The CT of the Orion if very easy to see, and since it moves slowly it's not dificult to actually take your aim there and destroy it. But the thing is... if you torso twist, it's easy to hit the sides and the arms lol so.. idk. It really is big and It's very safe to use XL, but you can make that better by not looking at your oponent when you're fighting him !
Also, CTF's CT feels not so big.

I find it close to the Catapult, without the advantage of shorter height. It's not Awesome or Kintaro bad, but it's pretty much impossible to protect it. On the plus side, runs an XL like a boss, pretty much have never lost a ST.

Apparently it makes sense for the Developers to make it so CT's, the area that kills your Mech, to stick out, so that twisting doesn't help as much as other Mechs. Especially odd since the tooltip in the game says, "twist to avoid damage." Well I twisted my Mech and still got CT damage, now what?

Not sure if the Developer's realize this odd way of balancing CT hitboxes or these things get missed during their internal tests.

With a 350XL and speed tweak it moves at 83kph, and at least for me the survivability is much better than with any build I tried with 300STD. Too bad that rules out all builds with AC20.

Have done quite well with them after I stopped trying to brawl with them. I'm used to Catapults though, and they're pretty bad with their CTs.

Also, I have managed to torso twist with an XL down to 11% health. And had one arm with lasers until the end. Maybe my opponents were just bad. ;)

I find it a Little bit to fragile for a 75 ton Mech.
Yes, it has a big Torso.
Yes, it is kinda slow and easy to hit.

But no matter to where I torso twist, most of the damage still goes CT.

All matches where I died were CT. Never lost an arm, leg, ST, or else.
Only CT ....
Well at least it makes one wonder if there might be an issue with the boxes.
I guess we will find out.
If there is, it will be sorted out like it was for the Kintaro.
If there isn´t ... well ... Training Training Training ....

Cheers,

Naginata

I am glad I made 2 of my 3 LRM boats, cause my fastest guy dies fast to ct damage constantly, My lrms, not so much. Also, bad box's or not like bringing the same lrm damage or more than my dedicated Assault. If im protected and tonnage limits are in im rocking same with 15 less tons for my team.

Orions get hit in the CT pretty often, but then again I see the exact same issue with other mechs like Catapults.

I don't see it as a game breaking flaw for the Orion. In fact my K model Orion with an AC-20 is my best mech right now.

I also don't see it as a flaw, hence my Orion's are LRM boats, mostly.

sure, I can use them as support mechs.

Just tired of mechs not designed as support mechs, like the Awesome or the Orion being stuck in it. Would rather have a smaller CT, and not be able to run XL. I can do good in them, but certainly have zero reason to choose one over my Victors, which are superior in every aspect except to the amoun t of missiles the VA can carry. (VA can make a very good LRM boat)

Hey, Don't get me wrong. I would like the K and the chassis overall, to be able to brawl. I just wanted a heavy class lrm boat "that can do actually do lrm right" and am happy with the Orion as that!

edit: In my lrm builds die from side, actually getting into the mix always ct.

I don't find the Orion less vulnerable than say a Highlander or Victor as a torso target.

I don't go around looking for a brawl, but instead, support surges when it happens. My original ballistic armament used to be a Gauss, then AC20, and finally 2 UAC5. The two UAC5 are clustered close in the torso (Protector), which means their fire isn't dispersed, It feels more devastating than twin UAC5s on a Jager.

However the torso mounted ballistics means you can't fit an AC20 or 2 UAC5 with an XL engine.

I used to pack a Gauss with the XL engine, like the stock Protector. That's actually pretty dangerous if you get hit on the side torso.

I am running my builds unlike most ppl. My "fast" Orion is all laser and my other 2 are lrm.

edit: still basic-ed all 3 in one night! Premium time and multi first win for the night bonus.

Im over 100 games in Orions now and i get center cored ~80% of the time, whats really infuriating imo is that i have still armor everywhere else. This is by far my most fragile chassi.

I stopped playing Catapults for similar reasons.

I find the orions very fragile, even running them with std 300 engines. I have the impression that I can take more damage in any jagger with xl engine than with the orion.

they are actually better off with an XL. They are fragile, but their side torsos seldom get cored, but having speed from an XL (they love 350XLs) helps a lot.
