Your Most Expensive Purchase Mistake?

I don't have Pretty Baby and I will stay away from it. But I have not failed in any of my hero mech purchases: Yen Lo Wang, Firebrand, Heavy Metal, Misery, Dragon Slayer and now Protector. They all served me very well.

In both cases it was for some third version nondescript Mech, which I only needed in order to Master the chassis, and which I sold as soon as it was Basiced.
A complete waste of MC when I could have spent Cbills instead.

Could say everything that cost me real money except Firebrand.

Following this I guess we can count Dragons, Awesomes, Trebuchets to an extent (I still own one), Kintaroes and Orion now are mentioned as the expensive mistakes (thankfully I've bought so far only a single Kintaro and only a single Orion and I've got rid of the first and will get rid of the latter as soon as I'll basic it out).
The most expensive mistake for me has been in terms of GXP (and due to a bug); during the first ever double XP weekend I reached master on my AWS 9M with like 21507 xp points so I unlocked the master module with mech xp, then I had to quit and go lunch.
When I logged in back I had a nice surprise: the game accounted 21507 GXP points for that unlock and NOT the mech xp, that turned out to be lower than expected (21468 but it was above 21500!). this happened in January, I'm still awaiting to have that GXP back since then..

So here is the lesson kids.. don´t be lazy, or if you are going to be lazy at least take the time to go through all your mechs first. =P

Your Victors will love you for owning it. As will any Dragons.

Yeah I need to get some more mechbays and more mechs, bought the Overlord Phoenix package so saving up the cash for them as I'm sure I'm going to have to gut and rebuild most of them.
Oh yeah I almost fogot - another big waste of money and GXP was that useless and grainy zoom module... glad its 'slightly' more improved now but for that price I would expect a telesope that could see the hair on a flies ball bag from a few miles away.

Then i had to buy it again when i realised that I needed 3 of same mech to get master.
So my biggest misstake was to actually sell my CTF-4X in the first place
But I actually got it to work,
These CTF need a lot of cash invested into them, specifically the 4X needed the biggest standard engine and upgraded structure to work at all for me, elite skills helps alot also, then they are rock solid.
If you buy a mech, and don't like it, always at least get your basics on it before you sell it. This way, you can still master that chassis type without having to re-buy the mech (you can get elites on another chassis in the same weight class to progress to master).
The 4X doesn't need a lot of cash invested, because the STD255 is (as far as engines go) dirt cheap. My problem with the chassis is that the 255 engine limit leaves the 4X extremely slow and cumbersome, while it's 4 ballistic points are stuck on low-slung arms. The JM6-S and JM6-DD are far superior machines. The slight tonnage advantage doesn't come close to making up for it's other flaws.
The other CTF's are much better, mind you. The Ilya and 3D in particular are amazing machines. But the 4X? Ewwwww.

Slightly improved? Have you used it? It's pretty much perfect now - inasmuch as it can be with MWO's awful film grain anyways.
It's only 2m c-bills, it's one of the few modules I've actually bought multiples of now for my more dedicated long range builds.

Yup, a flaming **** of a mech, that for some reason I was brain dead enough to spend IRL money on. And it was such a piece, I actually sold it just to clear a mechbay. But since I was NEVER going to use it, would keeping it have somehow been better? (Only consolation is I bought it on a sale, but yeesh.)
we made the mistake of somehow thinking being an IRL money mech it might somehow be good. Instead it is the worst of all Awesomes.

meh, it's perfect now...not in quality, but for maintaining game balance. Any better an I would kill mechs with Gauss rifle head shots at max range all day.

Interesting since even at the end of Closed Beta they said there would be no further stat or purchase wipes. Sucks to have happen tho!

This is what I meant. Not that it's perfectly crystal clear; but that it works perfectly. I wouldn't want it changed at all now except maybe how HUD elements are drawn over it, actually, that's kinda sketchy.
It's a tremendous disadvantage up close, because of how the small PIP window works, but absolutely does help dramatically at long range whereas it used to be harder to use it to make long range shots due to how it made everything a blurry pixelated mess.
You get a better quality picture if you turn Post Processing and DoF off, of course - it's blowing up what you'd normally see, after all, and all Post does is make the game bizarrely blurry - I'm *positive* that all the devs have poor eyesight and assume that's how things look to people with normal eyesight.
