There's nothing wrong with tailoring mechs to the map. Nothing at ALL wrong with that. In fact, it would encourage people to own MORE mechs, because they would have some which are good for this map or some for that. "generic" mechs are not the point. Who is it that made this a virtue somehow?
Its like picking out your clothes for the day depending on what you plan to do. Can you imagine if your clothes were picked totally at random? Oh sorry honey I know I look like a hick in my overalls in this fine restaurant, but hey as they say, if we could choose what we wear, people might tailor their clothes for the occasion....
I swear, once I get enough mechs in the garage, I'm just going to disconnect every time Terra Therma pops up, and play another mech.

Except that mechwarriors don't have mechs to choose from. A mechwarrior has a mech. They may acquire different mechs over time but as far as i know they generally only have one at a time.
That's why you get balanced mechs, because you never know where you are going to need it. There are some "specialist" mechs i believe, but they are rare

In short, either put a long ranged gun on your brawler, or suck it up and start walking when you get Alpine/Terra/Tourmaline. The next new map looks to be a CQB jobbie, at least.

I did, for one.
Since I tire of making the same arguement time and again, I'll just leave this here

Why then, should you not be made to pay the price of that choice? To be the best at one job means you're bad at other jobs - But then, if you could simply choose to avoid any situation that would require you to deal with those other circumstances, why would anyone ever choose to not be the best at one job?
If I know that I am going to play Alpine Peaks, why would I ever take anything buy my Cataphract 3D? Why would ANYONE take anything but that Battlemech? Or a Hex Stalker or a HGN-732? If I wanted to play a game that was simply 8v8 sniper wars, why am I not playing Sniper Elite? Alternatively, why would anyone pick something that was not a three-pack CN9-A Centurion or AC40 Jagermech on River City Night?
Any mechanic that REMOVES CHOICE AND VARIETY is a bad mechanic, and pre-game Battlemech selection does exactly that. When I am asked to make a choice between A - CORRECT and B - INCORRECT, then it is not much of a choice at all, is it?
Keep random maps. Keep general Battlemech loadouts. Keep varied team composition and tactical flexibility.

Your suggestion has the APPEARANCE of choice, in allowing you to choose a chassis to take into any given situation. What it actually does is LIMIT your selection to only that one chassis that is the absolute best design for that situation. I heartily believe that to be the sort of design philosophy that kills games - It certainly kills my interest.

Its not like it really matter anyway there is so much broken stuff in this game atm that this is the least they could give us.
we have broken hit detection on lights(all lights) the spider is just the worst, getting stuck on small rocks, invisible walls, poor weapon balance you name it we got it. Also before anyone says some {Scrap} about the weapons being balanced, when the majority of players seem to be flocking to the ac boats that should be an indicator.

It may be what they feel is "easiest," but no matter what it is, it won't be the best in every situation.

Battletech lore. Inner Sphere Mechs can't be reconfigured for every battle, so most of them need to work in many situations.
Who would own different Mechs for different maps if he could decide which map to play on ? That argument would only be valid if we had random maps but could pick our ride after we knew what map we got, not the other way around.

Not true. This is not the attitude I have. I simply view this game as a tinker's bench where I can earn parts and put them together in creative ways to accomplish a variety of tactical goals. At each stage, I would appreciate the opportunity to test out my creation in a specific setting. Its not about ego or immaturity at all. Its not even about customizing the battles so I have a superior advantage. I simply want to try out my creations in a combat environment to see how they fare. This is not an unreasonable desire.
