If this actually happens and I hope it does ... then no one will ever play Terra Therma unless they are in a medium or light mech.

Way to hot for the big stuff. Also to big.

I'd be happy with the simple option of downvoting one map at least.

If we ever get the promised 2.0 perhaps there will actually be a point to the game other than hop in and kill. I know its asking for the moons but I would love to see some sort of scoring system where the houses fight over planets. A tally system showing House X players have won this map X times so House X gets that much more epeen.

I can dream at least

If we were able to choose maps you would immediately see groups of super-specialized mechs playing the same map over and over and over, griefing any unfortunate soul who hasn't minmaxed for that specific map.
Boring you say? Definitely! But as we hear from the ubers, "Winning is EVERYTHING".
So yeah, random maps ftw.

Heavy I had thought of this when I was dreaming of 2.0 IF and IF we ever get a polished game imagine it like this. You can have 3 "pilots" per account. You can choose to serve a house, be a freelance merc, or play as an Open Gamer (like it is now) Now if you chose the House option you could not pick your map until you reach a certain rank rather you get assigned where the house needs you most. The game could see House X is falling behind on Planet Y so more troops are needed to fight that "map",

There needs to be a map down vote system. Just like in other games like starcraft2 for example. You can down vote 3 maps from the map pool and those maps won't come up for you. There's enough maps in the pool to allow us to do this. I would down vote river city night, frozen city and forest colony. Absolutely horrible maps.

there is going to be as per bryan eckman in the pgi podcasts

I'm hoping for a better solution. Lobby system with the ability to select 4-5 maps for drops as a team or individual pugs.
It's disgusting the way it is now - I get Tourmaline and RCN almost every map, with a spattering of Canyons as well.

I rarely see any other map. I didn't even get to see Crimson Straight yesterday - after 40 drops!!!

Edit, as for using real combat to excuse this is ********, I'm PLAYING this GAME for FUN, no fun no play no play no money, might want to keep that in mind before wandering down the, real life comparison track, that's always a crock to justify why a game does a thing a certain way.

So... it's only fun if you get everything your way at all times, huh? You use cheat codes in single-player console games, don't you?

Except that mechwarriors don't have mechs to choose from. A mechwarrior has a mech. They may acquire different mechs over time but as far as i know they generally only have one at a time.
That's why you get balanced mechs, because you never know where you are going to need it. There are some "specialist" mechs i believe, but they are rare

Yes, but this isn't Battletech, this is MWO, where pretty much every player does own many mechs. The game is designed, in fact, to encourage us to buy more than one mech, so we can complete the pilot trees. So this appeal to lore rings pretty hollow.

Also, I think the devs have said that when CW comes, they plan on allowing us to choose which mechs to drop in depending on what map comes up. So having specialized builds tailored to map type will eventually be de rigueur.

I just simply do not understand the Terra Therma hate. It's lava and rocks. Those two things are awesome.
