May I suggest that you significantly improve your survivability by properly CASE-ing your side torso ammo?

1.) Try www.mechspecs.com for build ideas
2.) You only need 1 really but you need 3 to get out of 8/8 Basic and into Elite. You also need 3 Assaults to get from Elite to Master and unlock double efficiencies. If you don't have 3 Assaults, then you need 3 Victors

The lowest I'd go for is an xl 365 or maybe xl 370...
I think that the speed you can make it go at, with the added maneuverability of JJ while having the armor of an assault make it a pretty unique platform.
I usually get around 400-1000 damage a game regardless of how my team is doing.

I just last night finished eliting my last Victor the K. I was so bored from grinding it I switched into my 9S for a change of pace. I ended up with my first 1k game.
The very next game I did this:
1 down and almost a clean sweep.
The Victor is a beast. It is my first assault and I told myself I would never buy an assault because they are so slow. Well I run mine with a XL350 and it's basically a beastly heavy that can dance with anything in the game. It's the go to mech when you are in a slump with others and want to easily win some games in a row to get your confidence up. Finding a good setup and without the basics it was very painful going but, after you get it down it's easy mode. Assaults definitely need to be fully elite, I wouldn't play the thing without the basics doubled.

Lot of fun with this one.
Victor is one of the best mechs in the game, all the way around through all it's variants in my opinion.
It's at the right tonnage to have very robust armor, and yet it's torsos are small enough on the sides to mount an XL engine to increase your firepower and mobility tremendously... and Then you get Jump Jets. Now the mech in Assault Class that you should be questioning.... well there are two really.
Awesome and Battleturd. Too tall, too wide and too easy to hit to keep from having XL become viable to keep their firepower high and have anything resembling mobility if you use a standard engine. Those two are even worse than the Locust (that's right I just said that).

Try the "Weird Al" DakkaVic.
BECAUSE EVERY ASSAULT 'MECH NEEDS A FERRO-FIBROUS ARMOR VARIANT.
And also because cluck the meta. You want PPCs/duAC/5, you should have bought a Dragon Slayer when it was on sale. Try the DakkaVic instead. Hilarity (and heat Problems) Will Ensue!
