I'm approaching 800 games since signing up in my first mech, every one a PUG as a Keyboard Warrior (meaning no voice comms, although I have a headset and TS). Thinking I'd start enjoying a little more interaction / more tactical play as recently matches it's getting a little frustrating watching half my team try to nail whichever light was spotted 1K away and leave the rest of us to mix it up with the bulk of the other team.

My question - is now the right sort of time to be looking at trying to get some drops with people over TS?

edit: I should add I know which forums to post an application/ad for my services, just wondering if I have about the right amount of experience to start thinking about moving up a level.

It's never the wrong time to connect with other players and step up your game to becoming a team player :P

(Oh wow, it's a tin foil hat! I could use one, all this talk about secret bobbleheads is making me think they're gonna start sending signals to my brain). Throw me an add on MWO if you ever want to drop, I carry guests with me often.

Thanks - I'll keep an eye out next time I'm dropping :)

So, I'm rather curious as to how to join clans/guilds etc.
The social tab only seems to offer up options to talk to people you have already friended. I don't know how to friend in the first place, nor use the in-built Voice coms I think I read there is? I'd like to find a guild before declaring my allegiance...

If you're looking to join a group, you should head to either "Factions" page or "Outreach" on the forums and check out the various groups. Some folks may have links to their respective groups websites in their signatures. (Note: if these forum sections are unavailable to you, try finishing up your cadet bonus)

If you want to add friends ingame, just select the "Social" key at the bottom right of the start page, click on "Add Friend", and type in the username of the person you want to add as a friend.

There are built-in voice comms, but a number of units just use Teamspeak or Mumble for convenience.

Question regarding heat...

Sometimes the list of damages after mech-death includes "Heat Damage" along with the list of weapons that hit you most recently. Usually happens after I have overused energy weapons and I recently overheated before the kill. I know you can kill yourself by overheating to the extreme, but does overheating and then cooling down back to having control also cause damage to your mech? And if so does using "override shutdown" have any effect on the amount of damage?

Yes, ANY time you overheat you take damage from it. The longer you're overheated the more damage you're going to take. When you override your shutdown your mech cools more slowly, but when your mech shuts down it cools off faster, so you end up taking more damage by overriding (i.e. the damage per second is the same whether you override or not, but if you override you'll be overheated for more seconds.)

All heat damage bypasses your armor completely and is applied straight to your internal structure. I believe, if you override, it will damage one component at random, and if you do not override it will be applied directly to your CT.

Slight exception to what was said by Demax.

If you have over 175% heat, all damage immediately STOPS (in favor of a percentage damage directly to CT) and immediately shuts you down even if overriden. (Note you have to reach this with 6 to 7 ER PPCs). You then have to wait until below 100% heat to be able to start again or you die instantly.

Interestingly enough... you can repeat this as often as you please. I've pulled off 6 alphas of 7 ER PPCs, the first one starting at 100% and overriden. I was killed the instant my armor shredded.

Be warned: You suicide very quickly at 135% heat. To hit the 175% trick it must be some super serious ghost heat penalties.

So you know, I sat for nearly 40 seconds after each firing waiting to cool back to less than 100% heat.

Hello everybody! Sorry for my English, I'm Russian and I've got a question , maybe stupid :-) I'm new to this game and noticed one thing. I bought cataphract and put two ac/5 in one hand. But visually I didn't see any differences between one or two ac/5 in hand. Also when I shot there is only one bullet firing but it shows me like I used two bullets from my ammo. Does it mean that two same guns like ac/5 in one hand don't prevent each other??

The best example to explain this is lasers, if you put two lasers in one location for example the arm, unless you chain fire the weapon, the beam(s) usually looks like its a single solid beam. Not all mechs will have this, for example the way a kintaro mounts its arm lasers means that you can have 2 seperate beams.

Different mechs will visually fire off slightly differently. If your only seeing one round with a ballistic come off/out, check your not in chain fire mode. If you are not chain firing then its a purely visual quirk of the mech.

Sounds like you are using the CTF-4X.

Right now it will look like only one round from the arms if I remember correctly, but you are dealing the damage of two, so 10 damage from the two AC/5, so it's just a visual issue for now. I used to have one myself.

More recent mechs are showing their separate weapons; for example, the Assault mech Victors will show two AC/5 in the arm.

Eventually Cataphracts will have updates to their geometry, but not sure when that will happen.

And if you are liking you 4X, work towards a build like this for maximum dakka, if you haven't tried it already: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a87fbfe6d6ea0e4

And that site is an awesome resource to try builds before buying items and upgrades in game.

Here is the answer for your first question.

There are several "BattleMechs" that are not yet updated. They do not show visual differences at this time. Each month an older mech is being updated. November had the Catapults updated. We are not certain which BattleMech will be updated next.

Until then, the Cataphract 4x will only appear to have one barrel. It will "look" like it has one AC/5. This will change soon.

All good, but you got one thing wrong.

Q: Why do machine guns seem to suck?
A: They do!

4.01GB Installed, minus a hundred MB or so for screenshots I probably have in there.

As long as both guns in your weapons list (bottom right) are recycling, it's fine. Some weapon systems don't cause graphical changes, even though many do (and many more are getting updates to expand on this). You can have two weapons in a single location.

Another example would be LRM-15s in a Centurion side torso. The ports won't reflect it, but both launchers will fire properly.

A smile!

(Side note: I just noticed my top speed before speed tweak. Lol. Lucky Hunchback! Come to think about it his first run into combat was 7 kills, 710 711 damage with that rig too.)

If I buy a Jester do I get the colors that come on it for all my mechs as well?

Seems like a wierd question, and I'm not sure I actually like the colors, but I am curious...

My girlfriend is like "Buy it", but i need something to sweeten the deal...

It will be my first hero, and that cbill bonus seems sweet.

It's a good question actually.
The answer unfortunately is no. Now, if you get the Phoenix mechs -- those colors are given to you. But hero mech colors are not given to you to use on other mechs.

Thanks once again Koniving! I didn't realize I had the Phoenix and Hotrod colors unlocked. This is so wonderful!

I've been playing with Green mechs for 6 months and I could have had pretty mechs for the last month!
