That said, it is a better idea to save your GXP to unlock modules, since the amount of gxp you earn is equal to 10% of the Mech XP you earn in a match.

It's an OR system. Not AND. You either use MXP, OR GXP. Can't combine the two, and like Dan Baxter said. Save your GXP for modules.

Isn't it just 5% ?

It is.
Got a question for you guys btw, haven't encountered this before in 2 years of playing so here's the issue:
I edited one of my mechs in the mechlab. Fine and dandy, everything saved. Can play with it in matches and all. But it will not set any weapon groups. Doesn't matter if I try it in the Weapon Groups menu (it will not allow me to save) or in game (everything immediately reverts back to weapon group 1 again). Anyone know what the issue is here?

Wow. That's wonky.
Is it a mech you have more than one of? That's where weapon group bugs usually pop up. There's a file you can delete to get a fresh start that usually fixes it, but it will delete weapon group for all of your mechs, so you need to be sure.

Thanks. I usually do, currently saving up for the level 4 CMPL cooldown module for one of my TBR builds. I must've just saw it wrong then.

Yeah. It takes a while to land. If you don't have them by tomorrow morning, then I'd be concerned.

sorry, it is not clear what you mean,
do you mean that you have an alert because the Mechs have no weapons, no engine, less than 8 omnipods or less than 10 heatsinks and so cannot enter a match?
if that is the case then you can save and alter the Mech, you just cannot enter a match until the problem is fixed, you should be able to enter the Mechlab regardless of any alerts on a Mech.
or is it just a warning that you are missing ammo or will suffer heat scale penalties because of having more than a certain number of a specific weapon type, if it is that sort or warning then you can enter a match

When a mech is only available through the gift store, it's pods are not available for the other variants. You'll have to wait until the D is available for MC/C-Bills for the pods to be available.
EDIT: Try stripping it's pods down. That might allow you to put them on other variants. It will leave the D inoperable, though.

I'm given the option to upgrade screen resolutions; the screen size is a 15.6 inch diagonal.
Do I stay with 1366x768 or pay $70 to upgrade to 1920x1080?
My deciding factor will probably be the different mechlab screens. What's the minimum resolution required to show the full window'd mode? Not fullscreen, but the other one.
I forgot what it's called...sorry...

I noticed a similar issue with the Select mech menu on my Omni mechs which I stripped off of omni pods.
I could not select them anymore in the HOME screen -> select mech menu.
But I can select hem if I go to the MECHLAB screen and use the select mech menu on the left.
Try this and see if it works for you too.
