If I double-tap a UAC20, does that incur a ghost heat penalty for firing 2 UAC20's within .5 seconds of each other?

How about the two of us meet later today in a lobby match and see if we get the same results you got in the academy? Just to settle this?

Yes, double tapping UACs can generate ghost heat.

All this is about BAP not working to grab or maintain locks on shutdown mechs at any range... You're welcome to find out for yourself if it does/doesn't work, but I've already spent 30+ matches myself proving that it isn't a fluke.

Well, there's another reason to never use UAC20's. I don't use them as it is, but I was kinda curious about this. Seems like a pretty useless weapon.

Actually, if you learn trigger discipline, they can do more effective DPS than dual RAC5's with pinpoint accuracy. I've beaten Annihilators with a dual UAC20 MCII-B in facetanking several times. Just take your time, and fire one, then the other, then second tap the first, then the second, and repeat ad infinitum until jam.

Practice in the Academy first, until you're comfortable with it.

On using academy and testing grounds.... Some aspects that are online only do not translate in the offline environments. For example some quirks do not work.

Yes. I've actually done this with two uAc/10s and double tapping.
I wish it had a restriction to prevent the double tap before 0.5 seconds.

Oh duh, that's why double UAC10 builds always seemed so hot! If you double tap 2 UAC10's, you trigger the UAC10 ghost heat! Lame. They should really make it so double-tapping a UAC never triggers ghost heat.

Why do you say that? It's a controlled environment, so you don't have to deal with skills/loadouts/lag interfering with the mechanics you're testing, all of which are fully functional in the Academy.

Science uses controlled environment testing all the time.

As Koniving already mentioned, the Academy and even the Testing Grounds contains some bugs, where some aspects of the game are not reflected properly. I believe even some weapon systems where different, think it was ATMs that were behaving oddly in the Academy. The Academy is the worse offender by far in this category.

I'd have to agree that if we want real results, we'll need to do a private lobby test with a buddy... (And when I asked, I was worried you had tested in the Academy.)

He specified "online only" things, like quirks, which do not apply.

ATMs behave normally for me, apart from not having anything to lock on to. (the "bots" don't count)

I did start off saying that it had never worked anywhere, not just in the Academy.

Maybe. As I said, I haven't used it in a while. All I can say is it once did work and detected nearby shut down mechs. It very well could have changed or "broked" at some point along the way.

I recall a weapon system that was borked in the Academy, but I can't recall what one it was... Oh well. Probably not important.

Hello people, I've been away from this game for some time. I understand how the new skill tree works (sort of), but here's some questions: In the new system I no longer have to buy multiple variants of a mech and level them up? And is there any advantage to unlocking more skill slots than the 91 I've decided to use?

Correct, but it takes more XP to level up a mech, and the Skill Points cost you about 4.5 million C-Bills.

No. You will, however, eventually find yourself unlocking more as you either optimize your build or change it entirely.

Thanks! And what about GSP, are they legacy points like HSP? In other words, will people get more from play or are they only available from the conversion to the new system?

They're legacy points, you can't gain them from any source.

Would nicer if they were on check off lists not twisted vines like they are now. Some skills I do not want but it have to access that choke point none the less. Just my $.02.

I just read this thread and stumbled over the term "qualify for". With lots to learn still it's a bit early actually for me to start buying mechs, but was thinking of taking advantage of the Motherload Sale and get me the Grinner which I shortlisted after some reading. I'm aware it's a Hero mech but may be missing a bit what this implies. Is there anything in the way of me doing so now, or what kind of "qualification" is needed first?

Hero mechs are mechs that are different from their normal counterparts in normally some small way.

In the case of the Grinner, it's able to take ECM, a useful gear for a new player. Otherwise, it's basically like any other Wolfhound.

Another good part about Hero mechs is they come base with a +30% C-bill boost when played. This will help make the grind less arduous.

The Hero mech is for MC (real money currency), so it being on sale is more significant than when a C-bill mech goes on sale. If you are seriously considering getting a hero mech that is on sale, now is the time to basically get it.

Last note on the Grinner, it's a light mech. Light mechs for new players can be difficult, but if you enjoy that role...

That refers to the cash store and one of the pack models (where there's a $20 base pack and a $15 hero addon). It has nothing to do with the current sale.

Thanks for all the answers so far, but I still have questions. :D

I used to be a Loyalist but for some reason I've been reset to a Mercenary. Can I gain some rank rewards for Mercenary, then switch to Loyalist and gain the rank rewards there too, or do I only get the rewards for when my Loyalist rank goes over my former Mercenary rank?

Same question for Loyalist, if I choose a different faction than I used to be in, will I gain the rank rewards for every rank or only when I go over my former faction's rank?

You can.

No.

Every rank. Some people deliberately use this to get the free mechbays from eac faction
