Yes, I am in love, and the name of my beloved is the Atlas-D-DC. Or maybe just my build. But when you are truly in love, you want to shout it from the rooftop, so shout I will:

I just finally bought an Atlas, after much waffling, because of all the "Oh, only noobs drive the Atlas! Get something else, you tool!" and warnings that "It's a big walking target! It's sooo slow, and you will get torn apart by lights!". We have all heard it before. Yet, I have a definite taste for big, slow, cantankerous mechs. I wanted another assault mech, and after considering the Highlander, I chose the Atlas.

And I am so glad I did!

It IS slow. Slow as molasses in January on a glacier. But it makes up for it in spades. I made a build with one AC/20, 3 racks of SRM4s, 2 ERLLs, AMS, and ECM. It DESTROYS. I stride clumsily across the battlefield, mowing down all who dare challenge my bulky, beefy might. At range I am protected from missiles almost completely by my ECM, and when I DO get locked on, my trusty AMS makes any hits amount to a light tickle on my super-thick hide. My ERLLs melt the faces of mechs at range (it runs surprisingly cool), as I creep forward to get within AC/20 range. When I do, the REAL fun starts.

I knew I was in love today when a Spider ran by me, and because I seem to have absolutely uncanny aim with the AC/20, I nailed him running at a full sprint, coring him in that one shot. He cursed me on open chat for quite a while. My eyes crinkled with mirth, and I produced a face which I can only assume looked like this:

http://www.swagger.m...ce-1280x800.jpg

Yes, I went full-on rainbow troll.

And the match continued, with me blowing away two other Atlai, one with a well-placed blast of SRMs and lasers to the cockpit, instantly dispatching my nearly untouched foe while crowing "Headshot!!!", and the other by getting close and coring him neatly with two consecutive alpha strikes to the chest just seconds before the game ended.

Maybe it is just because I have spent so much time in my Stalker 5-M, which took careful piloting, heat management, and liberal use of cover to use effectively and those long-practiced skills when translated to an Atlas make me truly dangerous. Maybe I just had a lucky week. I don't think so. If you ever thought about spending the money on an Atlas, I STRONGLY encourage you to get one and try my build. I hope you feel as much a god of the battlefield as I have. Good luck, and have fun!

So you found the MWO difficulty slider and set it to easy. Kudos...

Be nice.

Seriously each to their own and I'm glad you found a mech that you're enjoying. I generally pilot faster mechs so when I see an Atlas, it saying "hit me, I'm slow!".

Although with that build don't you find it a tad hot? I have a similar build except with normal LL, not ER LL and it runs fairly hot.

Don't worry, everyone here has at least an AC40-Jager, a Raven 3L, a 4PPC-Stalker or a good old poptart highlander/phract.

There's no slider on ECM... ;)

@Mcchuggernaut.
Glad you like the Atlas. I worked them up a while ago and after not too long sold them. I just feel that assaults are too weak in MWO and prefer my heavy mechs. I kept the Stalker-3F though just because i like chicken-walkers :D It still sucks though.
One thing i did like was the feeling that you're in a big, heavy mech. Just how all mechs should feel imo.

Will be waiting (probably forever) for the Stone Rhino :P (see sig)

It is a bit hot, but in general I only use the lasers when heading to a brawl. They do a surprising amount of damage, get me a ton of assist money, and the pinpoint damage is even good for the odd kill now and again. Once I am in AC/20 range, heat isn't really a factor since it generates so little heat. I might think about going with LLs instead if I find I keep running out of SRM ammo, but so far even when I do run out the rest of my weapons seem adequate to the task.

I have a Stalker 5-M that I run to great success myself. I think the stalker is ugly as sin, but that's part of it's charm. And I knew what the Stone Rhino was, and I would also love to see it in-game. Probably never will happen though. But a man can dream...

Apart from the Highlanders Ill say no to every single one of those (and I hated leveling the Highlanders to be honest as they were far too slow and the weapon spread was too limited to the left side nearly exclusively for my tastes).

All the others on that list are just labled prey in my books; AC 40 Jaeger (Wait untill it is busy with someone else and go fro one side torso... preferably the back), Raven 3L (these are tricky, but the legs are wonderfully long and easy to hit), 4PPC Stalker (get within 80 meters and hope that PGI add the /dance emote some time), Phract (just get close and shoot over low cover and watch the AC shells explode infront of you in the ground.. if that doesnt work, then circle him and use Jumpjets every few seconds)

I love your post. You exude happiness and that IS important. A good Jenner pilot will take you down a peg however.

Oh my, I'm terrified. For the Jenner that is, my AC/20 has a fair few kill marks on its barrel from Light Mechs thinking they could actually try to take my Atlas on.

Even the good Light pilots can't stop that AC/20 slug from coring them after my 4x MLas wash off most of their armor.

Hunchbacks, Blackjacks, Awsomes, Catapults, Cicadas, Highlanders (as stated) and Jenners up till now. Not really mechs which compromise the FotD. Most are brawler, mixed or LRM setups with the only real snipers being 2 of the not enjoyed Highlanders and the 3M Cicada (2 ER LL and 2 ML) which I only play in the 12 vs 12 games.

That's what buildings and cliff walls were made for. And awesome AC/20 gunnery skills.

Congrats, OP, you found the standard DDC build (LLs, AC20, SRMs).

On fighting lights, just walk back until you find a wall. See how they circle that.

I have a k/d of 2.5 in the D-DC... but I never drive it because it's too slow and boring.
