I'd say my favorite mech from tabletop is the Hussar.

30 ton mech, and it always makes me think of this:

"Hussar? You sar!"

(note, the build I love is modified, it is a 300XL engine with 10 jump jets and 2 med lasers. max armor. Won't die easy if you even hit it)

(I can't put a Hussar up. Lame)

fav mech would be the Mad Cat MK.II

Cause, you know, 64.8kph for a 90t, and lots of firepower...

Either the Gunsmith or the Antlion, they both have some pretty amazing concept art out there and even though they're typically viewed as weak, they have a special place in my heart.

This is a hard question for me to answer because it generally varies from game to game, based on the appearances and art for each of the 'Mechs in a certain MechWarrior title.

In 3 my favorite was probably the good old Timber Wolf, though the Bushwacker was a close second and I also remember really liking the Champion and Annihilator when I was little. Still want the Champion for this game.

In 4 I had a lot of weirder favorites because I usually chose based off of both their design and playstle; both aspects of 'Mechs in that game were rather all over the place by BT standards. I mainly just had a favorite for each weight class in that game: Solitaire for light, Hellspawn for medium (though I really liked the Hellhound and Bushwacker too), probably the Timber Wolf again for heavy, and the Annihilator for assault (though I really had some fun with both Stone Rhinos).

In this game, the field has changed yet again due to a lot of redesigns. Me being the person who often chooses based off of aesthetic then looking at the stats later, I was immediately to the Mad Dog a lot moreso than previous. I found out its stats really agreed with my playstyle as well (though I often wish it carried Endo-Steel). Then the jack-of-all-trades Huntsman released, and I was hooked.

Taking all these into account, I have so many favorites and 'Mechs I really enjoy that it's almost harder now than when I started writing these posts. I'm gonna take a big leap and say that the Mad Dog is my favorite 'Mech. Ever since I started seriously playing this game I've never lost interest in the MDD: I try to find that same joy in the TBR, but the loadouts that are required to make it look like its classic self yet still be somewhat similar to the TBR I know and love are rather janky and difficult to pull off.

Sticking to the topic and original question of this thread? I agree with many of you, it’s a very hard question to answer.

If you’re a newbie that’s only now learning about Battletech through MWO, your experience is limited to just MWO or maybe as many, Mechwarrior titles in general. Nothing wrong with that. Problem is, you have guys like me that have not only been playing table top since the 80s, but have actually read at least some of the books too based in the Battletech universe. Those books aren’t just a part of the history of the franchise, it drove the franchise.

It’s very hard for me to pull out a favorite from tabletop Battletech but the more I think about it, the more the Marauder comes to the surface. It really was the first “Mech” I was exposed too and that first exposure wasn’t from Battletech if you all catch my meaning. When I bought my first Battletech boxed set, I really thought it was related to the …ahem… other guys.. So yea, for Classic Battletech, unseen or otherwise, the Marauder all the way.

My first Mechwarrior unfortunately was MW3. By that time I was in the Navy and had built my first PC. So from that point through MW4 I stayed loyal the Bushwacker. I often played through MW3 never giving up my original mech. Despite what some may say about MW3, I really got into the “lost behind enemy lines” theme the campaign and staying in your original mech for the whole game was an easy way to up the challenge without constantly getting headshotted by AI on the advanced game difficulty. Even in MW4, once I got Bushwackers, they would become the backbone of the company.

Here in MWO, favorites come and go. I know many judge favorites on stats, meta and performance. I tend to value overall success with a mech over how good it is at meta or how OP its quirks are. As a founder from beta, my Founders Catapult still sits in my hanger armed and ready for service as does my Founders Hunchie. I cut my teeth and learned the game in both. So both have a lot of mileage on them and that’s not easy to just forget.

Since then my Bushwackers and Marauders have been added and I’ve paid as much attention to them as my two favorite Founding mechs. Heck, the Marauder is still my go-to for KMDD and total damage events.

In the end though, I still take the Catapult-C1(f) and try to find new ways to make it viable again. So for MWO I still have to stand by my Catapult as my favorite because I refuse to give up on it. As bad as LRMs are or its huge hitboxes and Non-Meta builds.... its a chassis I still want to be viable.

Hell I may have to dust her off this weekend and see what happens.

My fave was the Centurion, specifically the Yen-Low-Wang piloted by Justin Allard-Liao. Most badass mech in Solaris

I personally LOVE the Blood Asp.

Posted Image
This mech is bad-*** as hell. I had good memories piloting the LBX20 Blood Asp back in my MWLL days, easily out-brawling 3-4 mechs at the same time. Even before then, when I was just a mere child, playing Mechassault, the Blood Asp was the BEAST, with it's twin PPCs and HMG arrays.

At 90 Tonnes with BASP-Prime mounting two high ballistic hardpoints, when this mech is released on MWO, will basically break the game with high shoulder mounted Gauss Rifles and 64 km/h with a XL360.

Some of the other variants also mount insane amounts of firepower, ranging from dual UAC20s, LBX20s, or shoulder mounted ERPPCs. Overall, this mech basically reinforces PPFLD meta, is a walking powerhouse, and can basically be built around anything.

From the MW2 games Marauder IIC. Developed a fondness for the Hunchback and Summoner during MW4. Also have fuzzy feeling for the Raven. What I would really love to see now is the Bandersnatch. It has never been featured in any game but I have had a strange obsession with it since first discovering its existence.

Favorite of all time? The original Griffin. Simple weapon array, good range, good mobility, good armor. Also my first-ever ride in BattleTech.

Shadowcat, with maybe a little MW4 Conjurer/Hellhound.

Assaults can be fun, but nothing makes me smile like being a hard to find, hard to hit little goit, sneaking around and flying like no one ever explained physics to me.

As the great Warrior Zoidberg once said: "woop woop woop woop woop."

I have three mechs I love, the Raven, the Hunchback and the final one which is my all time favorite.

The Axeman.

Why?

I grew up in the 90s rushing to my TV on saturday mornings at a ungodly hour to turn it on an catch my favorite shows, Exo-Squad, Megaman...BattleTech.

As a kid that show was amazing to me. Got me even more hooked onto BT than the Minis or Cards ever did.

Still have the Axeman my brother and I got for Christmas to this day.

So, thats why its my favorite.
