Because tech needs to advance and you're holding everyone else back by refusing to upgrade?
FWIW they updated the min spec to include XP SP3 so it isn't an issue now but:
I have 8GB physical ram in my PC and will upgrade my OS to a 64 bit version as soon as I find a cheap, reliable, honest way to do so. Maybe if need be I'll dual boot between some linux variant and windows XP since 64 bit linux is free. For now Windows only sees 3.5 GB of the 8GB that is powered up.
I also have a X3 BE CPU so I'm not worried about the CPU side. Should it ever be a problem I could swap the CPU for a 4, 6, or 8 core CPU since it's in a AM3+ MB.
I'm not refusing to upgrade I'm just avoiding paying to be on the bleeding edge while upgrading everything with an eye for future upgrades.

CPU:
Core i3-2500
There is no i3-2500.
Might be good to clear that up by specifying either the i3-2100 or i5-2500.
I'm also curious as to how multi-threading effects game performance, as the i3-2100 has 2x physical cores, but 4x virtual cores. In contrast the i5-2500 has 4x physical cores, but no additional virtual cores. Are 4 virtual cores enough, or will 4 physical cores substantially improve performance?
I have a i5-2500K so either way I know I'm fine, however for someone going out and buying a new PC it would be useful information to know.

Thank you! I can't tell you just how much I appreciate the awesome communication and being up-front and honest with us. It almost makes me want to be a Piranha fanboy. Huge difference in coming from larger devleopers/publishers who don't communicate enough, and when they do communicate they give us incorrect info they have to retract later. Watching MWO's development and hearing what you guys have to say is like a breath of fresh air. Again, thank you!

This is my favorite part. After we spend some time battling in Inner Sphere mechs, I look forward to the Clan invasion and whatever you bring to the table with an update for that!

I don't personally have much experience with AMD CPU's, but from what I understand yes you won't have any problems upgrading to the latest 8-core CPU's if you want.
OS upgrade?
Cheapest legit way to upgrade Windows is to pick up an OEM copy, only about $100 from Newegg or the like.
Only thing to be aware of with OEM copies is you don't get official Microsoft help desk support, and you can only install them on one PC (motherboard in particular, you can still upgrade other components, but the motherboard is what your licence is linked to). If you want to upgrade your motherboard then you may still have some luck giving Microsoft a call and getting them to reset your licence.

I'd assumed everything mentioned in the update, so no crushing disappointment for me, although I'm so happy that there will be an option to migrate - it means I can feel confident about buying a founder's pack and hold on hope for an Oceanic server
Good news this morning, thank you internet!

Looks like I'll be loading windows on my mac.
I don't expect, for obvious reasons that I completely understand, most games to support macs--especially not at the start--but I was wanting to wait for win 8 just to try the newness of it. Eh, whatever. University employment (only perk left) = Windows 7 64 bit for $7.00.
// Founders pack for sure
