"Lag" is considered to be a delay from an input device to an output device. It can be due to either your ISP, OR from not having enough processing power, or a bottleneck in any other component in your computer. I saw a post of a person who said "Lag has nothing to do with your computer". This is false. When people ask for help with lag, many people immediately snap at them and, trying to sound intelligent, say that lag only means insufficient bandwidth from an internet service provider (ISP). Again, this is completely false.
I would give a direct answer to the source of the lag, but we're not allowed to discuss aspects of the game here. Someone else has already given an answer in the BETA forums, and it has to do with multithreading.
If any of this info is incorrect, feel free to correct me.

Aye, it is completely false but not for the reason you think. It's false because lag (on a network) is latency not lack of bandwidth. Insufficient framerate is not lag and the mouse is not 'laggy' in that situation either, though it might seem to be, it's that the update of the screen (with new data) is too infrequent to give reliable visual feedback on where the pointer actually is (as far as the system is concerned). I already have my CS degree, "senior" ;-)
In more general terms, 'lag' is delay between input and output, not merely a network response delay (the same thing but pertaining to the network devices), nevertherless, that's still not what he was experiencing; he was experiencing a very infrequent update because the rate at which his hardware could complete drawing was far below the rate at which the screen updates and well below what is required to appear smooth to his eyes.

I'm glad to see you agree with me, and I wasn't talking about anyone in particular, it was meant to be more of a general statement. Again, check out multithreading in the BETA forums if you have good RAM/GPU and still experience lag, it might not be your problem but there's a good chance it's involved.
I saw a person say lag had nothing to do with their computer recently on this forum, so I just wanted to clarify for future viewers of this forum, that's all. I'm actually switching to go into teaching now, but grats on your CS degree, it's not an easy field.

Honestly? I think it is an easy field. Although it rather depends what you consider CS, as the term is quite broad now. I know people with CS degrees who gained them for basically learning to program in Java, which I don't consider to really be 'Computer Science' at all. Anyway. way off topic.

This is Mechwarrior 5 - they found no publisher for a single player game and changed MW5 into MWO.
