It's not the most flattering angle. I'd want to see a little more before making a judgment.

On the plus side, I was hoping the Thunderbolt wouldn't be a may-as-well-XL 'Mech. Calls of Centurion 2.0 make me very, very happy.

I would describe it as "brutally functional."

Yeah the old Ironfoot was sort of fugly to begin with. This seems to keep that from what I can tell.

on the other side, Ive never seen a model which looked better than the concept art. sometimes models are similar good, sometimes models are worser, but never better, thats poor.

I think that might actually just be science. This game is far from special to me in that the same happens to me for just about every other game and movie out there. Except for Deadpool in Origins I guess... there was nothing to salvage that period. I think it's difficult to measure up to the expectation concepts usually set.

Then again the angle for these shots might not be the greatest either. This one I probably wouldn't have went with.

I like it. It has function over form which seems to be what the old TRO art was all about. It is like a really big industrial mech with weapons put on.

Can't wait to see what the cockpit looks like.

The 9SE is supposed to have the missile pack and the head reversed and jumpjets added, hope they keep with that for MWO.

It sure is ugly, but in a beautiful way. I can't wait to power one up.

Also, anyone remember that first screenshot of the Dragonslayer? That thing looked beyond horrible, but the in game was much nicer, so maybe it will grow on some of you once you get to playing with it.

What are the hands for? Why does it have a 2 tube missile launcher? I thought it was a heavy mech.

Because of its eclectic weapons mix, the Thunderbolt does not have just one primary weapon. Its longest-range weapon is a Delta Dart LRM-15missile launcher. Next in its long range arsenal is a Sunglow Type 2 Large Laser, which provides the Thunderbolt with respectable medium to long-range firepower. As ranges close, the Thunderbolt is able to bring its three Diverse Optics Type 18 Medium Lasers and a Bical SRM-2 missile launcher into play. Finally, for anti-infantry use, the Thunderbolthas two Voelkers 200 Machine Guns.

It is a mixed bag mech, the 2 tubes below the LRM15 are for the SRM 2.

I'm wondering if the srm2 tubes will expand out to srm6 size or even larger.

9SE model has 7 energy points by default....

Quote

TDR-9SE - The 9SE variant of the Thunderbolt is based primarily around an energy weapons arsenal and maneuverability. The 'Mech is armed with an LRM-10 missile launcher for long-range combat. For close to medium ranges, the 'Mech carries a Large Pulse Laser and three Medium Lasers. Of note is the shifting of the missile launcher from the right-side torso to the left. The additional mobility of the 9SE comes from its four jump jets giving it a jumping distance of one hundred and twenty meters.

and the 5SS might not have the missile pod on top at all since it only has an SRM6 and might replace that ballistic arm with a ppc.

Quote

TDR-5SS - The 5SS Thunderbolt is a 'Mech that depends more on direct long-range fire instead of missiles. The 'Mech carries a PPC as its primary weapon and for close ranges carries three Medium Lasers and a SRM-6. Finally, for anti infantry use, the 'Mech carries a Flamer. To help with the 'Mechs added heat load, the 5SS variant has twenty one heat sinks.

The hands can actually be used in combat, as per lore, so that's what it's probably for. And it's carrying an SRM 2, that's why it has a two tube missile launcher.

WIth the offset head, any missed headshots are going to be hitting the side torso. Makes a change and should improve mech survivability.

It's a large laser, actually. And I knew where it was, just disappointed that they didn't leave it under the arm. They did the same thing to the Battlemaster. Such a shame.

Yup. Except of course, the canon THUD had it on the side of it's arm.

as an old TT nut, I'm actually quite pleased. Just wish it was BIGGER, like the THUD's laser is supposed to be, not generic scale modeled in.

I love the T-Bolts hands, they're like the ultimate built in melee weapons. Punch your hand through a 'Mechs CT armor, pull its engine out, then smash the engine into the cockpit of said 'Mech.

If melee combat was an option, I'd see the Commando making a comeback simply because it could probably tackle other lights down and literally pull them apart.

I am impressed

It is hands down the most balanced design in reguards to hitboxes I have seen to date.

I am quite pleased

Posted Image

With the exception of the pelvic Ct hitbox it's damn near perfect.

Then again I could be wrong on how they will do the hitboxes....i'm not, but I could be.

Well the canon THUD was also not an original design, which was part of the reason why it was Unseen, as I'm sure you're aware, but I understand what you're saying.

I keep looking at those big BEAUTIFUL ARMS and thinking...baby, you are going to soak some damage for me.

Which is fantastic considering the number of torso mounted weapons.

I dig it even more.

Oh, for a melee combat Solaris expansion! To charge into battle and PUNCH OFF HEADS. It would be the ultimate 80's style giant robot experience. The claws would just make it all the more awesome.

Clanner says something about your mother? Well get up in his face and punch his battlemech's head so hard that you also punch HIS!

TDR-5S-T Thunderbolt Tallman - The personal ‘Mech of Bremond DMM commander Leftenant-General Mary Tallman during the DCMS's Third Succession War invasion of Galtor III, only the large laser remains, with the rest of the standard weaponry replaced with a brace of four medium lasers in each side torso. The remaining weight and space is devoted to eight additional heat sinks.

9 energy slots and 8 of them in the torsos? mmmm...

Damn straight.

Gah, the T-Bolt is just so attractive. I love the fact more 'Mechs are coming out that are function over form, and look like the designers decided "Hey, lets create a weapons package, then build a 'Mech around it!".

I'd probably forgo weapons completely, stuff maximum armor and the biggest engine into my T-Bolt, then run about punching people to death whilst laughing madly.

Ah god, just the thought of melee combat with the T-Bolt just makes it all the more awesome.
