No Sli/crossfire?

Sadly the fps drops are really bad. I've had to disable sli to get a stable frame rate. More needs doing to fix this.
I get better, more stable frames when not using sli

I can't find Alexander Garden's FAQ post where he answered that question right now. But if I recall correctly he said they'd be working on that too but that it takes some time longer. Which I translate as sometime next year.

First world problems. It's like asking about some problem with your $500 gold mech on forums. Go hire a man to troubleshoot for you then.
Seriously, I'm ATI/AMD man. Until 2015 I used 4870 Crossfire. Don't remember exact settings in Catalyst, but I always had
r_multigpu = 1
string in my user.cfg. Both GPUs were under load when playing and FPS were better than with single card. Of course fullscreen only. Some AA settings (not Crossfire mode, but AA) used to cause flicker, don't remember which, but with correct settings everything was fine.
I moved to single 5870 since than, happily switching to fullwindow mode as well, as MWO tends to behave really weird when Alt-Tabbed in fullscreen mode.

Where did I say I had problems? I don't need anyone to troubleshoot anything. I'm simply asking what the status is on SLI support in this game right now, because all the threads I've read still seem to indicate that it's still pretty poor.
Don't be so bitter.

So you can set it up, but how it will work for you can not be predicted right now. Results reported have been ranging from no effect at all, only an increased energy drain, various graphical bugs, up to notably increased frame rates with no problems at all.
If you come across any problems you can try to troubleshoot them with a GM at support.

The cards arrived yesterday (monitor should be here today), and after a little experimentation I see no difference, or possibly a slight performance drop, with SLI enabled. I too had overlay and flickering problems, mostly with PostAA turned on (in game was fine in all other AA modes), but adjusting the SLI rendering mode to Force alternate frame rendering 1 seemed to solve this.
So yeah, SLI "works" (as in, the game will run with it enabled) but it doesn't actually do anything which is extremely disappointing, and quite frankly ridiculous after all this time.

It shouldn't be much of a surprise the game is heavily CPU bound, having two 980's and a 4K screen is nice and all but unless you have a CPU that isnt available on the market your not going to get MWO to run at 4K reliably.

You are right that MWO is CPU intensive, but this still does not explain why I receive 30-40% less FPS with SLI enabled a 5820k @ 4.5GHz and 780 Ti's.

That's not unique to MWO tho, it happens in a large number of games, just googling FPS drops using SLI, you come across Diablo 3, Battlefield 4, Borderlands, World of Tanks.
It is why alot of people don't recommend SLI/Crossfire because they have never been perfect.
(Although for noting this doesn't mean PGI is above having been sloppy as we know they will have been)

Show me where I said SLI support was flawless without making a complete hack job of the profile using something like inspector on top of other tweaks/hacks/freak miracles... I mean, seriously, I just stated that I ditched my dual-card solution for a single card -for a reason-.
I did experience two freak miracles with my 660Ti SLI, though. Twice, when switching the AA mode, before restarting the client, I would experience SLI bliss, or at least kind of. I would get the frame rate stutter a bit, but I would still get better FPS overall and without the flickering. Both times, after restarting the client, I would cry myself to sleep when the flickering would invade with a vengeance. I never experienced consistently worse fps, but I did experience worse dips/mins. The explanation is 2-fold and simple:
1) My system didn't have enough PCIE bandwidth for the two cards to both max out (it was a sandy bridge system, not even SBE)
2) My CPU, even at 5GhZ (which I typically ran it at 4.4GhZ), was getting hit so hard by MWO that the CPU's ability to feed the GPUs was affected
The CPU-bound nature of this game is horribly obstructive to multi-GPU systems. I would set the MWO profile to single GPU if you haven't already.

Yet every other game I have that supports SLI, including BF4 and Diablo III do not exhibit this issue. Its not a CPU issue, it is poor implementation/optimization of SLI. All I see PGI do is blame NVIDIA for the problem and not really address it, at least this is the way it feels.
One big example of a CPU bond game is Starcraft II, it basically only uses 2 cores. Yet SLI works perfectly fine and I do not see the stuttering and choppiness issues that I see in MWO.

Yeah I do not even bother with SLI for MWO just single GPU. Thankfully the FPS has improved with recent updates on a single GPU enough that I can average 80FPS+ on very high+ POSTAA, which is good because at least I am above the 60Hz refresh of my monitor.

I didn't say it was a CPU issues, i said the game is CPU bound not GPU bound.
Which is why SLI/Crossfire are largely irrelevant for this game
Who's fault it is that SLI/Crossfire is bad in MWO - I personally don't know or care.

Originally when I had purchased my LG 34UM95 monitor last year performance at 3440x1440 in MWO was below 60 FPS on a single GPU, so I really needed SLI to run smoothly. Thankfully that is not the issue now.
