Is there a separate elo system for every mech class? As in lights, mediums ,heavies and assaults.

You have an ELO rating for each weight class.

So, if I understand ELO correctly. It should work as follows:

I started at a 1300 rating and have played the following

Type Matches Wins Losses
Lights 536 235 296
Mediums 11 5 6
Heavies 438 187 250
Assaults 14 4 10

What has happened along the way is my as I play my games it set me against the average ELO of my opponents. If I win, my score goes up and if I lose my score goes down. In theory, pushing me in the direction that the system feels is my skill level. This of course doesn't take into effect that my equipment ever got better.

The concept being that the lowest rating is about 500 and the highest is 2800. And that the majority of players should be sitting at the 1500 mark? I would guess at some point you would hit a point were your opponents are of your skill level. At that point, according to the system your win-loss record should level out to a 1:1 ratio. And it will be a difficult climb out of your slumped rating at that point.

I wonder how this will be effective during Community warfare. Will we have enough people for that?

If i remember correctly, it is close to that.

However, it doesn't balance all the players to your ELO, it balances the 2 teams total ELO's. So the higher your personal ELO is the greater chance you get of having lower ELO players on your team, to balance things out.

I have heard a lot of info, but haven't seen anything concrete on how ELO works in MWO. Does anyone have links to share? If not, it's just rumors and hearsay.

Command chair: http://mwomercs.com/...79-matchmaking/
Scoll down a few for ELO. There are other threads about the matchmaker as well.

Thanks for the link Captain. I read this link, but didn't see anywhere that a person's ELO is calculated per weight class; meaning that they may have different ELO scores for the different weight classes. It does say that they have implemented weight class matching (which is sort of working), but does not say that a person's ELO is weight class dependent. Are there any other links out there? Or should we just assume that everybody has a single ELO regardless of the weight of the mech?

There was a major thread regarding the matchmaker after the launch patch (which included MM tweaks). It contains some posts by Matthew Craig (PGI) with more detailed descriptions of the system.

we even don't have enough people for doing 12-man-drops right now =/
we formed a 12-man on friday evening and couldn't find an enemy for about 45 minutes... then we split up to 3 4-man... sad story

If the matchmaker is trying to balance tonnage as well as ELO then it would seem to me that, depending on the algorithm used, assaults might be more affected than other mech classes.

Is there any information on wait times relative to the type of mech being used as well as player ELO?

Mawai, actually no we don't have that granularity currently, being able to see wait time per weight class or per Elo bracket, something we'll likely be adding shortly. We still have the weight class restriction tighter than the Elo restriction so you may well be right, we're continuing to adjust the values today as we continue to learn more and try and find the best balance.

See that's the way I thought it was.

Still got that nagging seed of doubt now, though! :)

Well, it tries to find players within a certain ELO range as yourself. If you are near the top of the bell curve, however, the majority of people in range of you are below you so, yeah.

Yeah, and that´s the reason why I can´t play with some of my mechs anymore because I ALWAYS end up in the worst team possible, making impossible to win a single match. It´s like punishing you for being a good player.

Dumb system. If my elo is high, doesn´t mean that I can win a match alone, do you get it?! It´s so frustrating that I´m almost leaving this game for good. How can you screw a game instead of making it better? What´s the point in playing this game if I can´t play a fair match anymore? I have to be happy to take at least one or two mechs down before I die to a wall of mechs while my entire team is learning to pilot?

And now you´re even selling GOLDEN Timberwolves?? To match with my gold tooth, is that it? What the hell is wrong with you?

MM has nothing to do with any single person winning or losing constantly as both sides are put together the same.

This is not the case if there is a premade with one really good player and 3 really bad ones as it lumps them all in the highest elo of the premade and that brings their side's average elo artifically up causing other players on their side to be lower then they should be.
