Those 4 'mechs, with stock lockdowns are completely invalid in MWO. The Loki's stock armor is a guarantee for disaster (see the Jagermech). The Black Hawk will function, but will quickly be replaced by heavier 'mechs that can go just as fast, with more available space (See pre-buff hunchbacks). The Puma and Uller are worst off, they'll get run down by IS lights, out-fought by IS mediums, and bullseyed by IS heavies and assaults (see pre buff X-series ravens).

While this a valid argument, something I propose could conceivably fix this, and allow you to have fixed variants of the omnimechs for leveling purposes. Basically, have three hardwired variants of each omnimech. One variant would be the stock chassis with the original engine, internal structure, armor, and electronics hardwired to the frame. Call it the B[ase] variant. The second variant would have the original engine, internal structure, and electronics, but have maximized armor (probably without ferro-fibrous to save space for larger weapons). We'll call it the A[ssault] variant. The last variant would have the original internal structure, electronics, and armor, but have the largest engine possible, maximizing its speed. We'll call this variant the C[hase] variant.

I think the thing that would balance this out the most would be a return of a version of the repair and salvage system. Basically, both sides would get free repair of their own equipment, but would have to pay for repairs of the other type of equipment at full price or replace it with weapons salvaged from the other side (provided you win the match). So if you are an ISer running a mech that has a mix of IS weapons and Clan weapons, any IS weapons damaged/destroyed would be fixed for free. Those Clan weapons would have to be repaired at either full price, or replaced with other weapons you blew off of Clan mechs. I'd also restrict IS access to Clan weapons to only that which they blew off of an Omnimech. If they ever put in an in-game auction system, I could see folks selling captured Clan weapons for C-Bills.

Granted, this is mostly one way, since I can't really conceive of a reason a Clanner would put IS weapons on their Omnimech (unless it was as a joke mech). Now they could just sell the IS weapons back to game for C-Bills to buy their own equipment. Or if they want to go Clan Diamond Shark, sell it on the auction system.

Totally agree about the return of R&R, it is in every F2P game and in this game is would have even more sense since is difficult to keep efficient the Battlemechs in aftermath of the Succession Wars, and the minimum i would expect to see is a cost to repair my machines and reload the weapons.

I have never been a lover of mixtech for two reasons: 1)the reason Finestaut will not like: because "it's canon"; Clan weapon pods are not compatible with BattleMechs (and Omnimechs can only mount BattleMechs weapons as fixed modules so they effectively become BattleMechs). 2) If IS 'Mechs can mount Clan tech, this will invalidate ALL the IS tech unless the former is not much better than the latter.

Technically, Omnimechs are easy to repair since if a weapon pod is destroyed it can be sostituited by another one easily and in short time. I think the same is for their limbs. If there will be mixtech, though, IS pilots using Clan tech should pay a high price to repair Clan equipment.

Btw, my idea was to allow, if at all, only the highest-ranking players of Wolf's Dragoons and Great Houses to have Clan Omnimechs. This respects the lore and gives the players an objective (get more loyalty possible with a faction) to get Clan 'Mechs. At this point, however, Wolf's Dragoons may need an advantage for its member to keep them more attractive than the Great Houses as end-game goal.

what everyone is missing with the clans and equipment is that pilots drove what the clan gave them.vehicles were tailored to their mission, not the pilot.leave the basics and only make crit slots unlimited in hardpoints

I think the general jist of this thread was that omnimechs in this game (if implemented they way they are in canon) will self-balance because of the long list of restrictions in place. It's weapons and tech that are generally the hot topic, because balancing those isn't so simple.
