I'm just a lore based kinda guy. In lore, there is heat and ammo...

From what I saw then, and what I see in this game, sadly I think too many people here would love to have no heat or ammo options... Blah.

My nephew insists on playing Warcraft3... in multiplayer.... with no AI or player opponent.
I am working with him, trying to teach him that beating up the mobs does not constitute 'being awesome' or the like... but sad as it its.... his friends are worse. :)
The upcoming generation of videogamers has me worried.

Nah, you just have a vocal minority that want that easy button. A good chunk of the players here are Btech players from way back when and actually looking for more than just a twitch shooter and want more strategy.

My youngest loves him some CoD (actually he's pretty dam good and carries a 2.3 kdr) but he likes the RTS games I've introduced him to as well.

It's not jsut gamers though, the new generation thinks 1 minute to download a song is sloooooooooooooooooow. A lot of us can remember when it took 15 minutes to download a jpeg. It's just like when we had the nerdrage over having a 60 second timer in the ready screen

First, I don't like the sense of entitlement many forumusers show these days. I know, it's kinda their toy from childhood days etc. but I am more the oldschool kinda guy. Game gets released, glad to finally get to play and take it as it comes. Adapt or work arround flaws or just move on...
That being said there is one point missing to that discussion about the countless and neverending "remove x/y" threads.
By the way, whats the difference to lets say a "We need tonnage limits" or "We need lobbies" thread? Nothing to be removed here but still the same spirit. Still over-entitled imho.
Point is: Forums have another purpose besides feedback, user-dev or user-user communication. Most of these "remove" or "we need" threads have one single purpose without regards to their subject pov: People just need these threads to vent their frustration. This is very important to player retention. So ALL those "Remove X/Y" threads at least have one reason to exist: Their OPs very own feelings. To keep him playing.
I've read all of this thread and especially the discussion between Road, Sand and Justicar. I have to admit that I am with Justicar. There are more pressuring matters than others, so throwing them all in one bucket doesn't help anyone at all.

You start out talking about entitlement. This is exactly what I'm getting at with this list. If every single player that came on here and said "remove x" got their wish then this is what we would have. Everyone thinks their idea is "good" and I actually agree with a couple of the items on the list. That's neither here nor there.

Individually those "ideas" don't seem like an issue. When you combine them and realize that as a player you aren't in an isolated environment. There's an entire community here. I understand exactly what you mean by "needing to vent" sometimes. We all do it. We all troll from time to time, get a little cynical, etc. That's understandable. With that said though, I want players to realize that if you really and truly want to help this game get better and more enjoyable, "I hate XXX and it needs to be removed" is rarely, if ever, constructive and helpful.

Before you jump up and down and nerdrage that XXX ruined the game for you and needs to be removed, actually come up with some ideas on how to change it AND understand that just because you don't like it doesn't make it "bad" or "broken".

I had to read almost the entire thread to make sure of Sandpit's point in starting this topic.

If you believe that a feature of the game is not working correctly, or is hindering game play, don't shout for a removal. Think about the issue, and give proper feed back about it. Instead of asking for an out right removal think of ways to make the feature work better, or at the very least come up with an alternate solution. Just keep in mind that your suggestion is not the only "right" solution.

Way back in closed beta I posted my first suggestion thread. I wanted the AMS on the commando removed from the front of the mech. I suggested that it be re-positioned on the rear shoulder instead. The reason why I made the suggestion is that when the AMS fires the mussel flash obscures the right half of the cockpit window. It also looks odd sticking up out of the right pectoral region of the mech.

The HBK-4P used to be the top cheese, OP, rage inducing mech. Players would pack nine small lasers and face hug mechs spamming alpha strikes until the target died. I hated this thing. However I under stood that the problem was not the mech, it was not the small lasers, and neither was the size of the engine in the mech. The heat sink and engine relationship was a place holder at the time. The Swayback was working the way it did because of the heat system over all. PGI changed the number of heat sinks that will fit in a mech for free to what we have now. This change, along with engine limitations fixed the swayback from being OP to a mech that had balanced risk reward. Ghost heat was not even needed.

A feature should only be removed if it cuts across the grain of how the game plays and fits in with established features.

Three issues that do this are on the OP's list. At least from my point of view. I think better solutions could have been found.

Oddly enough I got into a thread earlier that has me considering starting a new thread for all the "op" and "nerf" suggestions

Oddly enough I don't disagree with the entire list. That was never my point though. To my knowledge, I've never asked for the removal of anything. If I don't like the way something works I try to think of a different system that would work.
