First, I don't like the sense of entitlement many forumusers show these days. I know, it's kinda their toy from childhood days etc. but I am more the oldschool kinda guy. Game gets released, glad to finally get to play and take it as it comes. Adapt or work arround flaws or just move on...
That being said there is one point missing to that discussion about the countless and neverending "remove x/y" threads.
By the way, whats the difference to lets say a "We need tonnage limits" or "We need lobbies" thread? Nothing to be removed here but still the same spirit. Still over-entitled imho.
Point is: Forums have another purpose besides feedback, user-dev or user-user communication. Most of these "remove" or "we need" threads have one single purpose without regards to their subject pov: People just need these threads to vent their frustration. This is very important to player retention. So ALL those "Remove X/Y" threads at least have one reason to exist: Their OPs very own feelings. To keep him playing.
I've read all of this thread and especially the discussion between Road, Sand and Justicar. I have to admit that I am with Justicar. There are more pressuring matters than others, so throwing them all in one bucket doesn't help anyone at all.
You start out talking about entitlement. This is exactly what I'm getting at with this list. If every single player that came on here and said "remove x" got their wish then this is what we would have. Everyone thinks their idea is "good" and I actually agree with a couple of the items on the list. That's neither here nor there.
Individually those "ideas" don't seem like an issue. When you combine them and realize that as a player you aren't in an isolated environment. There's an entire community here. I understand exactly what you mean by "needing to vent" sometimes. We all do it. We all troll from time to time, get a little cynical, etc. That's understandable. With that said though, I want players to realize that if you really and truly want to help this game get better and more enjoyable, "I hate XXX and it needs to be removed" is rarely, if ever, constructive and helpful.
Before you jump up and down and nerdrage that XXX ruined the game for you and needs to be removed, actually come up with some ideas on how to change it AND understand that just because you don't like it doesn't make it "bad" or "broken".
