I've just received my phoenix package, and very happy with most of it, the shadow hawk, what an awesome medium, thunderbolt is great and not had enough time in the battlemaster to make a decision, but the locust, well simply put, it has no place in this game at the moment. It's simply way too light to be a viable light option, can anyone explain to me what its purpose actually is, or if people are finding useful ways to use it in the game?

Scouting, capping, backstabbing, trolling, playing on hard mode. I think that covers it. Also, some people think very small things are cute, like puppies and babies, so there's that too.

of course it sucks you just started using it. I used GXP to basic them all and get speed tweak, then they are alot of fun. Also its the only mech under 85 tons to have 2 AMS so there is that. Its best used in light packs of 3 or more otherwise you get taken down pretty quickly.

hmm. mine works fine,. and judging by the sheer quantity of them out there, I think they have a place- 3/1 KDr on mine 1V says so.

The thing to keep in mind is that its not a Jenner. It can't go toe to toe with other lights or any other mech by itself, instead you have to rely on its higher speed to accomplish your goals. Mostly its scouting, harassing, and picking off weak targets. In and out, jousting, whatever you want to call it. Be crafty, or be a scrapheap.

Aye, all of the above!

Damn good fun can be had piloting a streaking fast mech armed with very little, and toting even less armour, backstabbing anything you can and avoiding being one-shotted by everything! ... If that doesnt sound like your thing then dont climb in that cramped little cockpit...

Carry Arty strikes or Air strikes (whichever you prefer) along with your other favorite module, be sneaky and always stay on the move.

It's always fun to drop a strike in the middle of a big blob of mechs and pick up a kill just for that.

But again, always be moving, don't stop unless you are absolutely sure there is no one that can see you and even then don't stop. Speed is your life in this mech, as soon as you stop you lose your life.

It's a challenging mech, no doubt, but it can be quite fun!

Its the Ultra Light. Run by mechs spot and or fire but just keep on running. I had a locust circle my hawk yesterday while I was brawlin witha Battlemaster. The second I focused on him he should have ran. They don't seem as bugged as the spider for some reason.

The Locust needs something unique to it.

The Locust isn't faster than the spider, or the commando. It doesn't have jump jets. It doesn't have ECM. There is nothing that the Locust can do that any other light mech can do better. The other lights are faster, carry more firepower and have other perks (like ECM).

This is exactly my point, when I first saw it with a 190 engine in it and saw the 153KMH next to it, I thought WOW. But then I read that the spider and commando can now match it too, so it doesn't have speed on either. It certainly does need something unique to it, for such a small mech, its wwaaaayyyy too easy to hit. In all honesty I don't see why I would use this mech ever again after mastering it.

I agree completely. I thought when this mech was coming out it was going to be the fastest mech... but when they upgraded the other lights, I was rather shocked. The locust might be "fun" but for serious play it doesn't have a place on the battlefield.

I feel the locust should be the fastest mech in the game by at least 10kph to make it viable. Buffing some of the other lights speed has made it even more vulnerable than it already is. One wrong move, you're dead for the most part. Even when everyone thought the spiders were {Scrap}, I'd still survive some punishment before going down. You really have to pilot these things on the verge of paranoia -- most anything can kill you or severely maim you outright.

The locust is great. I use it to cap, I use it to pull attention. I even use it to brawl in.. Yeah. brawl. Get right in there and zap em. boo yah.
lol
I got many screenshots already ranging from 400-545 damage.
It's great fun.
The 3M is my favorite so far. Those 2 AMS are just too fun to give up.

As a light player I find the locust to be fun and completely viable. Yeah it can't take a hit very well but I have no fear of other lights, In fact I look for them first, then I go after the wounded big boys. Great fun!

Heh, running the 3M and 3S with pretty much no upgrades so I can sell them later. The 3S is interesting but I am not really a fan of light mechs. Of course I'll master out the 1V(P) because I have to keep that one. That one I bought an XL190 for.

Personally, I love the fact that some people enjoy the locust very much. Nothing pleases me more than a locust circling my Atlas, SHD, CDA, or even RVN - because eventually they pass my field of view...
