Well I can't verify anything unless I know the episode the picture was in. Even then HG doesn't have the rights to make anything based within the animation.

Actually they seem very sure that they can use the animation and whatever in it if they want or at the very lest Palladium does and they'd have to get approval for anything. Really whether they can use it or not, they are using it. I would think if they can use the animation then using everything in it is also a go as long as they don't step on anything Macross outside of the TV animation. Assuming they really can anyway.

The story is that the VF-4 was supposed to be in the series and due to the budget the scene in Flashback couldn't be made for TV.

Not very much to verify though, like DYRL it's only in the series for 2 seconds in what's oddly much like the scene in DYRL, but it's about 12 minutes in when Hikaru is debating if he should leave the military...much like the SDF 2 they never really mention what the model is in the series.
