If you're buying a new system there's no point in going for a i7 870. While it is a good CPU, i doubt it will be cheaper than a sandy bridge or ivy bridge i5 and both of them will be better suited for gaming.

i need a new graphics card i only have a 6770 right now i want a 7970 but anyways the rest of my system is

4X AMD quad-core Opteron 8380 2.51 GHz
32 GB ECC DDR2 Ram
i use a 46 inch tv as my moniter right now
want to upgrade my cpu's to the Opteron 8439 SE but there about £100 each but it would be arroud a 60% cpu power increse
cant think of anything else to say about that pc. altho i dont want to start waffling on about my outher pc and its phase change unit so i'll leave it at that

Hey again

Thanks for all the great info guys ...

This is my speci report - http://speccy.pirifo...0fU2v0gXCkoVO5c

Would this pc be upgradeable with over clocking ... a new cooler ... windows 7 and a new GPU - say the GTX 550Ti?

To be fully honest; not really. Your CPU is a dual core, and as the devs have said, a quad core will be much, much more suitable for MWO, with a dual core you will only be pushing on minimum settings. Furthermore, your RAM is horribly slow as well. And to bring it up to the recommended 8 GB of ram would require two 4GB DIMMs, which are prohibitively expensive in DDR2. You would be best off getting a new Motherboard, CPU, and RAM altogether in my opinion. And due to MWO's requirements, you're going to want to then get a windows 7 copy as well.
Given that core 2 quads are going for the same price as AMD hexacores right now, where the AMD processors are also faster core for core, you're better off getting a new motherboard altogether, so you can get your CPU and RAM up to par.
Secondly, A Nvidia Geforce GTX 550ti is slower than a Radeon HD 7770, and although I don't know the pricing in your country, the 7770 is the same price here in the states and in the UK. The 7770 also uses less power and overclocks higher. Though the 550ti will be suitable for the minimum settings. But for the price, I would say why not go with the faster, cooler, more power efficient graphics card? lol

Everything but the graphics card is fine, you are going to want to upgrade that if you want to be able to play the game to be quite honest.

No problem. You may be able to squeeze out 720p or 800X600 on it, but your full screen resolution will be a no-go. Also, you may want to invest in some more RAM to make things work a bit better; http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820220545
Just a thought.

Be alittle worried about your video card. You are literally 2 steps down from the recommened 5830, but several steps above the required 8800gt.

Barbaric, I appreciate your time. What recommendation do you have for a video card? My power supply is only 400w (+12v1 and +12v2). We're expecting a baby at the end of June so for now I'm a bit limited and can't justify a new system.

Thoughts?

Honestly, stay with what you have for now. You current card is between required and recommended levels, so it will handle the game. You might have to turn acouple setting to medium instead of high(shadows, motion blurr, thing that don't have a huge affect on the actual look of the game).

Congradulations on the upcoming baby.

Hi. Your power supply is deff. going to limit your graphics card choices. I understand the kid thing. Have you ever built a system? Also is your current system store bought?

This site tells you whether you can run a game. Since MWO is based off of CryEngine 3, type in Crysis 2 or select it from the drop down.

I
t'll tell you where you are lacking, and what is good & whatnot.

Thanks, B! Yeah, baby girl... so I'm starting to panic and stocking up on ammo and pepper spray. And getting a larger dog. =)

I have not built one in quite some time. I used to get the barebone rigs (case, board, ps) and add what I wanted. But the current system I have is a Gateway FX6701-01. At the time I wasn't really able to save a lot of money over just buying a system. But that was... years ago.

Ah ha, excellent. According to that I passed. Which is good... now I'll have more money for diapers. Doh!
