Autobot, Grenadapult, both of you have a point.
Ofc they are just photoshopped and don't look like the original, or as imtimidating.
And on the other side, we aim for getting the Marauder ingame, so we need to get some kind of new touch in the design to not get into a law suit with Harmony Gold.
That said, both images above are old and not for this contest. They still suit for a taste of old nostalgia and inspiration for the participants.
If we compare these to the Reseen, you get a totally different style again.
I think some kind of high shoulder plates (like Awesome and Griffin) would be great, but the Reseen torso looks too strange.
It's all about the artist. Here is FD's (Alex Iglesias, MWO's lead artist) take on the exact same design:
All the same features, but much cleaner lines, and better proportions (although I'm still not a huge fan of the stilt legs). Which tells me the design itself isn't flawed so much as the first interpretation of that design was just poor.

My question is simple: why would HG care if what they are trying to protect is not the name of the mech? I bet there is more to the story but, if a completely redesigned mech is thrown out there and called the "Marauder" why would HG vote no? It is not the same anymore as the mech that used to be called the Marauder sooooo there should be no infringement right?
Image. Image is the only thing that HG is interested in. Not the name, not the stats, just the image that they licensed from SDF Macross for use in Robotech. Don't use an image that looks like the Macross design and there is no issue. However, the community seems to be largely unable to accept anything that doesn't look like the Macross design... so I think we as a community need to just let go of that image in order to have any visual representation of that Mech (or any others that came from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross)
