The only previous experience I have with the BattleTech universe was with MechAssault 2 for the Xbox, and I would love to play as those mechs again. Good times.
Also, I would love to see the Mad Dog and Thor mechs make a comeback. Is there an equivalent in MWO that is just under a different name?

The other mechs are all Clan, so far the game is entirely Inner Sphere. TPTB have said that the Clans will be in-game, the question is when. My guess is late next year.

No probs, I had to check the Master Unit List because I didn't know the date off the top of my head, I just suspected that it was later than you said. I was a bit surprised that you were off by almost 10 years. Figured it was closer than that.

about a decade away for the Uziel. Timelines my friend. This game takes place before the MechAssault games.

Clan name / IS Designation
Firemoth / Dasher
Myst Lynx / Koshi
Kit Fox / Uller
Adder / Puma
Viper / Dragonfly
Ice Ferret / Fenris
Nova / Black Hawk
Stormcrow / Ryoken
Mad Dog / Vulture
Hellbringer / Loki
Summoner / Thor
Timber Wolf / Mad Cat
Gargoyle / Man O' War
Warhawk / Masakari
Executioner / Gladiator
Dire Wolf / Daishi
Then we have the Clan support Battlemechs and Omnimechs:
Hunchback IIC
Clint IIC*
Jenner IIC
Shadow Cat**
Highlander IIC
Orion IIC
Guillotine IIC*
Arctic Cheetah / Hankyu**
Huntsman / Nobori-nin**
* Possible but neither chassis has been announced on the IS side.
** Appears later during the Clan Invasion but currently in service during the timeline
The remaining support mechs were known to have been used and the IIC versions do not differ in weight making them relatively easy additions to the game. Whereas other IIC versions differ in weight and thus make things more difficult. There are multiple other desgins I haven't listed but more or less enough to equal the IS in terms of variety.

Mechassault's variant system was weird, naming different variants as if they were totally different mechs.
Quote
- Catapult / Bowman
- Mad Cat / Timber Wolf
- Thor / Summoner
- Loki / Hellbringer
- Vulture / Mad Dog
- Cougar / Puma
- Blood Asp / Star Adder
- Uller / Kit Fox
- Nova Cat / Wendigo
- Raptor / Stiletto
- Atlas / Prometheus
- Raven / Corvis
- Uziel / Belial
- Owens / Hackman
Edit: Should also be noted that the Ragnarok/Ymir never existed in any fashion outside of Mechassault and has so far not been made canon through any other means.

There is no canonical "Star Adder" mech however clan Star Adder does produce the Blood Asp mech which is what the Star Adder mech in Mech Assault (which is an unholy abomination) was likely based on. It was introduced in 3059 so you can expect it in 9 years if pgi maintains the 1 to 1 timeline.
The Mad Dog, Summoner, Hellbringer, Storm Crow, and the rest of the TRO3050 clan mechs will likely come out next year.
I also suspect the first batch of clan mechs will include the Clan Tech versions of the Shadow Hawk, Locust, Jenner, Hunchback, Orion, Highlander, and possibly Griffin as well as 2 or 3 of the TRO3050 omnimechs from each weight class (like the Timber Wolf, Summoner, and Mad Dog).
