I really have no desire at all to play the Locusts. If we could sell Phoenix mechs, they would all be gone.

I'm personally torn on the Locust. I want to like them, but they just aren't that great.

The 3S is fun, but it needs DHS, and I'm not sure if I plan on keeping the mech or not (Given the mech costs about as much as DHS, I can always buy another one later), so I don't think it will get a fair shake. With 2 SRM4s, or 4 SRM2s (better spread, more chain fire options, better fire speed) and an ML, it hits hard, but isn't very good against other lights. I don't think it really has a role though, as you can fit 2 SRM4s in a jenner-D and be survivable, have better heat, and still carry other firepower.

The 3M is the one folks like, and I did though DHS on that one (it was going to suck otherwise). I think I finally found a build I like on it, but it's still squishy. Once I'm done with it, I still don't see why I wouldn't bring a Jenner instead though. They're much tougher.

I managed to basic out the 1V. I like it, it seems to be my most effective of the locusts for me, and I've had more kills and damage in it than any of the others. Sure, the spider 5K is better now

Until I know I need another slot, I'll likely just keep them, but I don't see myself keeping these mechs around long term, particularly given how cheep they are to rebuy later. Untill then, I can reuse the space.

If PGI added the Urbanmech as a playable light, the frustration threads on the forums would be Locust 1V x2.

The difference is that most people who know about the urbanmech accept it for what it is. I only want it for some future lulz matches of 12 vs. 12 urbies.

It is a troll mech but a glorious one at that! Would probably only be a good mc only mech, with 1 varient (maybe comes with efficiency already done)

The 3S can be fun with 4xSRM2s. You can chain them and circle some poor ******* or just pop them off fast as you can. With a 2.5 refire rate you can really puke out 8 SRMs on someone pretty quickly. The problem with SRMs, really, is the need to slow down or stick on target. It's sort of a DPS build. In a locust it's just suicide.

Better off going with the 3xstreak, 1x ML build and wrack up assists. Drive-by streaking!

Honestly though? I go with the 4x SRM2s. It's surprisingly entertaining. You chain them up and it's a solid cockpit shake, more than an AC20 every 0.5 second. You do this to some poor ******* trying to avoid the advance of your better armed allies and you'll do alright.

Actually, that was my build until yesterday.

I dropped 6-7 salvos on the back of another Locust 4xSRM2 and that armor just went to slight yellow... hit reg for SRMs seems to be gettin' worse every patch.

I dropped everything from that mech and installed a ER-LL with 2 additional DHS. And today will be the great day of my LPL in that little ******, i hope 10 DHS will be enough ;)

Ok my feedback on the Locust so, far.
Honestly I found the S to be the hardest to level up. Probably due to 250ms lag... I really really can't use SRM effectively.
Strangely with Speed tweak enabled I slapped on a ERLL in there again last night.
Ahh Haaa ! S is the first Locust I managed to PUG grind with full Elites. (The other 2 at 2 of 4 elites.)
Had 3-4 instances of Assault/Heavy pilot calling me a noob light pilot or Not scouting or Not capping enemy base as a diversion... Reason why ?? All because I am still alive poking at the enemy with my puny weapons when they are dead and can only ***** about their 'short e-peen syndrome.' ;)
This bitching seems to mostly come from Highlander pilots. I think I am getting there with the Locust.

The 1V has it's uses. It is a killer mid to late game. Don't under estimate MGs but heavily reliant on having a good pug team.

Current setups:
1V - 4 MG + MPLS
3M - 5 MLS
3S - 1 ERLL

If you can 1v1 a fresh Jenner or Raven, their pilots are garbage.

The locust is literally not durable enough to fight *anything*. In a 6ML Jenner, you can oneshot a locust leg. One shot. One firing pass, and it's legged.

Complete waste of a mech slot.

Are you trying to imply that the DK is bad?

As a chassis, the COM is only surpassed by the JR7.

I mastered the commando in closed beta. I've piloted every chassis available. I have a whole folder of screenshots where I do well in each.

That being said, the only viable commando is the 2D, and even then, it's mediocre. A JR7-F is superior to a DK in every way, except for 20KPH speed difference.

all my Locusts pack only one ERLL. And I play them the same way. Boring? Yes. Effective? It's ok. It's a very specialised chasis I feel, and anything it can do, a Jenner or Spider can do much better.

So why do you play them if you don't want to (at least feels like you don't want to)

I did say that the JR7 is a better chassis than the COM. But neither of these chassis have any dud variants, as opposed to the SDR (5V/5K), Raven (2X/4X), and LCT (1V).

I strongly disagree that the COM is mediocre. It's a solid chassis, neither the best nor the worst, but closer to the top than the bottom.

I plan on waiting for a 2XP weekend to get mine mastered. I can't see using GXP to skill them out since I hope we get more meaningful things to spend GXP on in the long run.

I can't sell off the 1V(P) so I mastered it. I also have my Raven 3L and Jenner D(S) sitting at 4/4 Elite with 30,000 some XP on them so when I got the Locust to 4/4 Elite, I mastered those 2 as well with the banked XP.

I'm thinking of do that too - blowing 43k GXP just to get the basics done for the two non-(P) variants and selling them.
