Actually, I think The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries was originally a more direct parody of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I've also got to say that I didn't actually find The Art of War to be all that useful. I get that it's a really important historical artefact, but I kind of feel that there are modern texts with the same content which are much more accessible. Aside from that, the title's wrong in my opinion. It's so lacking in specifics that it really ought to be called "How to get **** done when you're surrounded by morons who never think ahead". No wonder businesses keep banging on about how useful it is...

Yeah you could use that instead. But dont forget the title is not the original one. And ontop of that there are actually 2 texts that are called the Art of War. 孫子兵法 the book from Sūnzǐ and Dell'arte della guerra from Niccolò Machiavelli. Both are interesting text but in general yeah they are handbooks to "How to get stuff done". On the other hand over specialization is a common problem we encounter more and more in our society, the guys that stay less focused are needed to connect different fields together if you are over specialized you have a hard time to see benefical connections between your field and some one elses field of expertise. We need again polyhistors/polymath that connect our fields of knowledge once more.

#6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

I'm also kind of fond of 7, "If the food is good enough the grunts will stop complaining about the incoming fire."

There's a converse that I learned in the Navy that I assume applies here as well, "A whiny sailor [grunt] is a happy sailor [grunt]." The idea being that the troops will find something to complain about until things get really, really bad...then they'll put their heads down and quietly power through, so if you haven't heard them complaining about anything for a while, you damned well better find out what's going wrong.

I prefer: There is no such thing as Overkill, only "Open fire" and "Time to reload".

I really shouldn't have shown you guys that link; you're going through my favourite lines faster than my Cataphract goes through AC/5 ammo...

Come to think of it, it can't be far off unlimited. According to the stats page, I've fired off over 82000 UAC/5 rounds. That equates to 2750 T of ammunition. That's more than the weight of a Gazelle dropship...

Interesting Fact

Your stomach needs to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks or it would digest itself.

Sooooo...LoPan likes Lasers...what about the rest of you all? What's your favorite implement of death and destruction? In the table top, I preferred energy weapons, but in MWO, I seem to do best either in an LRM platform or with multiple small caliber autocannon.

My favorite platforms for the autocannons are my trusty old JM6-S Jagermech and my Ilya Muromets.

And I actually have a Highlander that I like pretty well for my LRM boat...I've used the jump jets more than a couple times to get myself airborne to lob missiles over a terrain feature that otherwise would have eaten a good portion of my salvo.

I love lasers and heavy bore autocannons. I prefer nimble 'Mechs like my Locust-3M for lasers, allowing me to get the most bang for my buck by letting me be where I need to be when I need to be there to pump out some pinpoint 4 Small Pulse Laser damage. For autocannons there's nothing quite like the Hunchback-4G. Rolling around in the second line, behind the assaults, hurling heavy, slow moving projectiles into the melee to really add some punch to the proceedings.
