As Mech Warrior Online grows and the lances grow with it, eventually allowing players to enter battles of 30+ I think it would be useful to have Colossal Class Mechs (120+ tons) and Land Air Mechs.

These are both canon to Mechwarrior but are not in widespread use in-world. There is only one known model of Colossal Mech (the Ares) and it requires 3 pilots, 2 are gunners (which I think would make for some really interesting gameplay) but weighs in at 130 tons, is slow but has stupid firepower and defences.

LAMs on the other hand, are Land Air Mechs, the tech was researched , then the factories burned to the ground by warring clans, then the tech re-stolen and two models built by the Jade Falcons before the factories were razed again. LAMs would be very squishy in flight, but the ability to relocate fast could make them a really interesting mech.

Fast forward a few hundred years and it seems like the secret about LAMs should be out by now too.

These 100+ mechs do not come in to the universe for many years... and LAMs are a no no.

http://www.sarna.net...es_(BattleMech)

The pic there is a model from the official board game.

And for light LAMs the Munin is probably the most famous, tehre is also the Stinger, Wasp and Pheonix Hawk.

The two I mentioned were LAM assault mechs but these are mass produced smaller mechs.

Best pic is here http://www.mackenzie...h/munin-phg.htm

But there are also pics here http://www.sarna.net...File:PH-LAM.jpg and here http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Stinger_LAM

I like the idea of a colossal mech being like, a PVE boss or something once campain is up and running... but player pilot-able?

Naaaaah.

Me?

@Veliah

Thats definitely an idea, and probably the safest one with regards to balance.

The way I saw it though, a Colossal Mech needs 3 pilots according to Sarna, so its not any stronger a damage dealer than (and significantly more expensive than) an assault mech. The thing about it that made the idea cool for me is that The mech would be pretty useless most of the time PvP wise. Scouts always get to the enemy first, then meds and heavies, then assaults so Colossals would take so long to engage and be so restricted in urban environments that it would be pointless. But, a colossal would take a lance just to fight (and nearly a lance to pilot). It would make a great defensive mech when you had to guard something valuable.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a colossal pop up as some sort of Objective. Defenders need to destroy the incoming Ares while the offensive team needs to safely escort them to a hardened bunker which needs some softening. However I don't see the ares being put in player hands as it would create a great deal of player and technical resources.

As for the LAMs...again the technical overhead they would create for the developers would be quite large, and most likely not very profitable.

It's all nice, but there is the problem of time CoffiNail already mentioned. And putting Ares in now would really not please the Battletech community (around 60% of forums). :)

I don't see any trolling in this thread from anyone? What the hell is it people think trolling is by the way. Trolling is like a type of cyber attack, I'm seeing many thread today with players writing "trolling" and there is nothing of the sort anywhere in the thread.

I agree, lately anyone who posts anything 'controversial' to the BT universe is automatically trolling when 90% of the time they are not. They are just new users, who are putting out a topic.

Edit: more like 82, but whatever

So sorting this out we are in Battletech year 3049, no older mechs (no clans, no jihad no dark ages so bye bye mech like bushwacker/Fafnir and others despite being IS)

Also most of the LAMs come from the old Unseen mechs wich are a nono and at this rate will be forever banned to be included in any official game since the end of days.

Pretty much this,Gen0's either fooling around or woefully ignorant.
Edit:It truly does seem to be the later.LAMs were removed canonically because they were effectively stolen from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross and Colossal mechs exist in the Dark Age era,a period in Battletech history much disliked by fans and seperated by a good 80 years from where we are now in game time (which is real time which means no dark age until about 2092).Sarna really needs to clarify this or else where going to get new guys constantly posting "OMG flying mechzzz so cuuuul did you guyz see teh colussszz so much wantxxxors".

I wonder how slow the turning speed of a colossal mech would be?
They won't make it into the game, but it would be fun to tear one appart with a light mech if the turn speed on such a huge mech is reeeaaallly slow.

Simply turn a little, so one of your legs faces the way you want to go and then continue walking. :)
