I love the girl to death but if everyone is shooting at you instead of your atlas buddy, you'll drop quick.

She's big.... but the glory days of Closed Beta where she could run 86k are gone.... load the 8R with 4 SRM6, Large Laser and 2 mediums... they ***** Atlai like no tomorrow. But I digress.... sure the CT is easy to hit but so are the LT and RT.... but that being said she has big shoulders. I still feel speed increase makes her more viable. Jump in with a friend or two and sure she gets in harms way faster, but imagine the shock of smaller mechs you can chase down with some of that firepower... maybe a very slight adjustment to the hitboxes but I still think she should be able to go faster... this speed limitation thing KILLS her in the field. (Though I still run them from time to time and I have good matches in my XL 9M or Pretty Baby)

On the other hand, the massive CT means it can run an XL engine without fear, allowing either epic speed or maximum dakka(zappa? I dunno, pew pew equivalent of dakka)
Anyway, I still love my Awesomes. I wouldn't say no to a buff, even if I don't think it really needs it :-P

In terms of difficulty level, the Awesome is definitely placed near Hardcore mode, compared to the easier mechs like Stalkers or Highlanders. This mech ain't for rookies or normal players.
And, to add more insult to injury for this poor mech, of all things, ghost heat on the Awesome, despite its designation as a ppc boat? Ignoring the need for some hitbox adjustments if the Devs can't get to it, with the Awesome being an energy mech, it needs some perk to even out the playing field - make it a viable threat than some walking Cbill barn door that overheats faster than having just ten single heat sinks on Terra Therma.
And the Pretty Baby with the Deceleration Quirk. What the heck is up with that?
The mech needs loving. It needs something to help it against all the running ballistics mechs and the heat-intensive maps. It's sad to be the only Awesome for every match that starts. Hell, I only came across a fellow brethren after 20 drops in - a ratio of 1:15.
;__;

To fix the Awesome, PGI would need to address the issues with energy boats, while also fixing the Awesome's hitboxes AND giving it quirks that distinguish it from other mechs with similar numbers of energy hardpoints (especially the Stalker and Battlemaster).

Poor hit boxes... I've seen it said before that the Awesome may be the only mech in game with totally correct hit boxes in terms of its size and locations of them... and sadly that makes it one of the easiest kills in game because of how right they are done, and how large the chest of the mech is. ONE thing the Awesome has advantage in is she was in game before the changing missile bay thing... so you can still load 4xLRM15 and get max damage from range in an 8R with LRMs. But as stated with ghost heat, despite her being a PPC build, this mech gets crippled yet again. For some reason the "hunchback" with "6 medium lasers" is fine... but thanks to the Stalker PPC spammers a few months back... we have this ludacris ghost heat scenario that punishes even a STOCK BUILD. This is one of the few things that drives me absolutely nuts.... nice to see however I'm not the only one who gets a small tear in their left eye at the lack of attention on her
Addition.... give her a max 325 engine AND an extra module slot....

Ellipsis is a 'sometimes' punctuation.
Anyway, I've never seen anyone say that, and if they did, opinions change (or ought to). Any effort to improve the Awesome must include a hitbox change. If speed was the only factor, the 9M would be more popular than it is.
It's worth noting that the LRM60 build would trigger ghost heat as well.

I do think the hitboxes need a little adjustment (so the arms can be used as shields more effectively) but it is a great mech to run an XL engine with, for that reason.
I do think it would benefit from having more armour able to be placed in the CT - Increase the CT armour amount, take it off the arms and legs.
A mech like the AWS should be able to mount as much CT front armour as an Atlas, even if it carries less everywhere else, IMO
I run an 8Q, 8R and 9M, and its only now after ~80 matches in each that I can pretty much routinely get over 500dmg/match and get some kills before dying. Its definitely a 'hardcore' difficulty setting mech :-)

best thing it has going for it is its thin side profile. use it.

1. Huge central torso
2. Huge sidetorsos
3. Very low mounted weapon hardpoints (Apart from the headlaser)
4. Due to the very wide torso, the hardpoints are set very wide
5. Because of 3. and 4. it is very hard to fire over cover, or next to cover
6. All its variants depend on missiles and energy weapons, both of which run very hot currently
So basically it is a horrible sniper, because it can not shoot from cover, and is a horrible brawler, because it has ridiculous hitboxes.
Just compare it with the other 80-tonner, the Victor. The Victor has the same armor, much better mobility, a far more diverse hardpoint setup (mounted higher on the chassis) and it is far more slim as well. Why would one ever take an Awesome over a Victor?

There is no need to buff them. They work just fine as is. But you have to use them like an Awesome is supposed to be used.
It's not a get in there and brawl mech (though my PB and 9M are really, really good at that) it is a find a good spot and lay down non-stop PPCs safely out of range of most return fire. With the speed available on a 9M or a PB, you are in total control of the range against other big mechs. Just keep the ERPPCs on chain fire and keep a steady stream of lightening going and you will do very well.

I've always been confused regarding how stalkers or highlanders are supposed to be easier to play.
Could you explain to me how a stalker is better than an awesome (just to keep it on topic).

The Stalker has a very small central torso, while having huge side torsos. This means that killing it will be a lot more difficult than killing an awesome. Especially from the front, as the Stalkers profile is really small.
The Stalker has 4 of its hardpoints mounted on the very top of the chassis - and to top it of, those are even in the arms, for increased vertical movement. The Stalker can peak over cover and shoot at targets, without exposing most of its torso, unlike the Awesome.

Removal of ghost heat (it can't even run its 3-4 PPCs like its supposed to)
Smaller frame (The Awesome isn't supposed to be so ******* fat)
Higher Heat Capacity (OR mech quirks in general since its supposed to be an energy boat)
Until these happen, the Awesome is beyond a lost cause. Sorry!

You wouldn't last 6 seconds if you tried that now. Ballistics actually register these days.

Exactly, before HSR I used to run my 9M like a giant hunchback, lasers/srms and play cleanup man mopping up kills at the end of the game.
Now, I run 3 ppcs and hide like a girl, running from cover to cover at the first sign of danger, taking shots from behind my teamates. Can't even fire all three ppcs my mech came with anymore so I have to shoot, twist, shoot, twist. With all this running and twisting, you'd think this old mech would trim down a bit.
