Dear small minded person,

Most of the "I'm a clanner, Yar!" is in the "Hey, Clans, man!" threads.

Discussions about technical things usually don't say "It would be dezgra for me to spend c-bills on skill type upgrades for my pilot avatar!"

I'm sorry that you "don't get" roleplaying. Or people that had, perhaps, actual, real life experiences with their Clans that transcend this "video game" and it affected them, in a cool fun way.

You're the one trying to mix real life and the BTU. This whole forum? Its the BTU. Don't tell people how act, you don't own it. We all do. Outside the window, that's Real life, you can bully people you don't understand out there.

Just because you own and play some RP table top, does not mean you know how to roleplay. I knew a guy who had a few books, he LOVED to be part of the D&D games when i played a number of years ago, but his druid would ask how much gold he gets for his nature loving druid to saving the forest from evil.

Just because you got some books says nothing to me.

You do not want to RP, good for you, you do not want to, but a number of players like to stay IC to a degree because THEY ENJOY IT, who are you to say otherwise?

Exactly my sentiments. If someone says "We Wolves won on Tukayyid! or according to Sourcebook xyz, Page #, the Wolves won their engagement on Tukayyid, it is the same thing just from a different perspective. If people wish to create a RP section that is all fine & dandy but nobody should feel threatened or intimidated into staying out of character if they do not want to.

It is a personal decision & as long as the forums rules are not violated (no sexist, racist or religious insults, or threats of
violence or coercing others to commit violent acts, use of obscene or personally insulting remarks) then they should be free to be in character as long as they like. I have had two such people have the nerve to tell me where to take my RP & they have been ignored since we cannot seem to agree to disagree. This is a game forum where people come for relaxation. If people are going to continue to hound you for something that is not against the rules but just annoying to them you have options.

EDIT: I just realized that one of those people is the creator of this thread. I would not have replied had I noticed this earlier, but I am not going to delete this now. technoviking & CoffiNail, glad to see you guys understand where I am coming from. As far as I am concerned, those people can kiss the business end of a PPC.

As far as closemindedness goes, this is pretty close to paramount. Many IC posts are disruptive to conversation and add nothing meaningful. It'd be like me poking my head in the room where you're talking to your girlfriend about finances and stay IC as daffy duck the whole time. It might be funny to me, but I bet a couple bucks that after a few minutes you'd try to punch me.

Tsen I formally invite you to join Clan Fascist Woozle
because seriously, Jaroth, stop acting like a persecuted minority; you claim you chose this, so deal.
Also, when have I threatened and intimidated anyone? point to a spot where I said I was going to launch
actions at people...there are none. you just seem to want to rail at the rest of the forum for supposed
mistreatment no matter how obnoxious you act.

If someone is being an ***** by just ranting that is one thing, but if they are making a meaningful contribution from a character point of view that is a different matter. When people RP IS characters & make their points & add the clan bashing at the end I do not mind. They are making their point & having a jab at us clansmen in their character. Love how you took the last sentence of my post to quote. So again, kiss the business end of a PPC.

But most people don't see it that way-only the roleplayer is enjoying it. Roleplaying is about the back and forth, is it not? This isn't bashing RPing in the fan fic forum, this is talking about the Rping creeping into the general discussion board.

I love how you clan RP-ers think I can't role play, then turn around and consider singular statements by other people as 'RolePlaying.' By size of post alone, you take the cake for roleplaying responses. Another thing, I told all RP-ers to knock it off; seems like most either silently agree or have backed off, only you really stand here committed to this idea. Here's a question, if you want to make your points so badly why not just drop the character? the fanfic forum is for the RP-ing.

Not necessarily. We are all different people. Some choose to RP some do not. I do not expect EVERYONE to RP or EVERYONE not to RP. As I said there are people who make their points while in character. If a post is going well with information being traded back & forth & some ***** just jumps in,
"RAAAAR YOU SILLY FREEBIRTHS! WE WILL CRUSH YOU & BRING THE INNER SPHERE UNDER OUR CONTROL!"

Look at all my posts & tell me where I went on a rant that did not contribute to the discussion that was going on. I make reference to source material but do it from a character perspective.

Tsen Shang wants to talk about closemindedness. What irony. He & those that think like him, have no problem with people making their contribution, as long as it is on their terms. As long as the forum rules are not being broken, people should be able to meaningfully express themselves as they choose.

Just imagine the impact you've had on this forum! Tens of people now feel vindicated or admonished. Maybe some even feel bad about themselves. You're a real gem of a human being with a nice case of grandeur. "agree or have backed off..." You've told "all Rp-ers to knock it off" did ya Mr. Big stuff?

Think about how this very thread brings the forums of Mechwarrior down a notch with its snarky negativity. Well done. Imagine a happier board without this drivel. The very way you feel about RPers, is how I feel about this thread existing. Don't care? Me either. Take a break, short stuff.

When the Clans get a proper set of sub-fora, IC RP will probably significantly decline. As is, there isn't any, so the IC posts get slipped into topics already talking about Clans.

I didn't say that. I said that it's like walking up to a dinner table with a hand of cards and pestering everyone to see if they have any threes. They aren't playing, why are you? If you enjoy playing alone, why does everyone else have to read it? It's not about the source material ether, I could care less about that. It's about people on earth trying to have a discussion and being confronted by a space cadet. People are constantly dissing the clans for reasons that your in-character guy can only respond to with "well you're freeborn dogs and don't deserve to win." You really want me to respond to your character? You're a fascist space wolf who wants to subjugate the universe! It's like role playing as a storm trooper on a star wars board; you role-play as the antagonist, you're going to antagonize people.

And given that I was speaking from a player's perspective, I'd also like to add that Clan players usually think this^^^ when I beat them both in MW4 and on boardgame. There is something to be said about how the more primitive a faction is, the more childish its players are.

then you respond

I was in character because it is both amuses & relaxes me. It was my decision to do so & I do it for certain threads. If you do not like it, too bad. Save it for an RP thread? ROFL Even if you made that wish with a magic lamp you would still be disappointed. I will be in character when & where I wish. Deal with it. If you so desire, I can dismantle your threads from a real world player perspective. Just give me the green light. Who are you to tell me when or when not to be in character? Pompous little troll.

so let me get this straight here, you claim you choose to roleplay this character when you see fit, then get all mad when someone reacts to your obnoxious act? Then you claim you will dismantle his threads as a real world player...but that never happens.
you break character again here; you accuse the opponent of being slippery instead of just responding to his arguments. Then you spuriously ask him to prove it, when you haven't even countered him with your own document evidence, merely opinion. So who has to follow whose rules?

see I guess I figured it out. You need people to RP with you in order to even try and debate with them. Also, you are not above providing fuel to the fire and being spurious as well. Endgame: you feel like you don't have to conform to anyone's rules but then when someone doesn't conform to yours and challenges your mindset, all of a sudden you act completely persecuted.

And for all your talk of perspectives, you seem completely incapable of seeing mine or others like me
ENDGAME - we're done here

What utter nonsense as logic cannot be denied or argued & clearly I am doing both.

Oh you completely missed what I wrote. How surprising. I am not going to repaste the point again. I stated what is a rant & what is meaningful interaction. The fact that you choose to bypass that AGAIN, speaks volumes.

You are saying the same thing I am saying. You want the thread on YOUR terms. Not going to happen. You do not like it then the forum has options. Bravo drawing a reference with the police. Bravo. Disturbing the peace is against the law. Speaking in character is NOT against the forum rules. Well done genius. Well done.

I have no problem with the people that do not want to RP. If you do not want to do it, that is your choice & I respect that. I have a problem with them telling me when & where I can RP. The fact you try to dictate those terms to me is closemindedness. No, no, no reply to the thread just not in character. As stated before I do not rant; I make contributions from a perspective I choose. You want my input, but in YOUR way. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Oh you are open to it as long as it is a legitimate response? Good then stop annoying my *** with this nonsense. Take it up with the people who make the "bland clan hoorah post" as you say.

Thanks for your time.

I was sparring with Winson in a chat when I stumbled upon something. If Winson and company are supposedly role playing clan characters, then who are these said characters? True clan warriors would not engage with surats over the chatterweb, they have more important things to do. Find me the source where it says that part of the day-to-day of a clan warrior in a prestigious frontline regiment is logging on to the chatterweb to check out the new video game about their life (a mechwarrior).

Now that I think about it, why would they care about a video game? that's anathema to their way of life, a trivialization that they would never tolerate much akin to their loathing of mercenaries and solaris 7 gladiators. Not only that but its a video game being made by some "barbaric" Inner Sphere company made of "freebirths" so the actual game would never 'be realistic.'

Also, clan warriors would never have time to play a game anyway! they're too busy fighting, training, honoring...living war, eating war, sleeping war(?)

unless that is, all you clanners are really trueborns in a dezgra outfit on some backwater looking over a second-line cluster of freebirth savrishi.

so either accept that your character is the one above, or stop the roleplaying. Save the roleplaying for when there's an actual game to roleplay for.

this goes to inner sphere 'roleplayers' too. Either do actual roleplaying that conforms to the actual realm of battletech or just stop. I'd like to have real discussions about this epic game with real players.

It is nice to be talking Battletech again (Though I never stopped, really. Victory in a tabletop Three-For All on Solaris this weekend! Yay!). On the other hand, the argument that the Clan RP has crept into everywhere because they don't have their own section is just a reminder that, right now, this game doesn't include them. They're just up to their old tricks: invading Inner Sphere space and claiming it's theirs by right. You don't see me filling every post with vitriol about Kerensky abandoning the Inner Sphere for, by his plan rather than the actual timeline, 700 flipping years. We spheroids should be fighting each other, not these vat-bred outsiders. "Bloody immigrant Clans, comin' in 'ere stealin' our forums!" :)
When the Clans come into the game as a player option, or are at least announced as such, then I'll get less annoyed at how many Clanboys are standing on the forums and shouting. Can we talk about the IS and Mercs now please? So, how much out of place RPing is being done in the name of the Successor States and do we need to curb it?

PS.Prepare to fall, Dracs, House Davion and FedCom reign supreme! <-- Unwarranted IC comment, and not ashamed of it!

EDIT. : PPS. People tell you when to RP all the time Jaroth. Try going into a shop and talking IC to the staff, you'll be thrown out in no time. There is a time and a place for everything and while I agree that it is your right to decide what that time and place may be, it is also your responsibility.

Blah blah angry garbage, etc.

Look, both Aaron and I threw your B.S. back in your face. My arguments were logical, and the police reference was a parallel. Want me to spell it out? Being a nuisance is irritating in both situations, it just happens that in this situation I can't call the cops on you. Maybe you don't recognize how irritating it is? Or are you doing it out of spite now that Aaron went through all your old posts and dug up evidence?

YOU ARE EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN WE SAY CLAN RP ADDS NOTHING TO THESE FORUMS.

Please accept your fate, get over yourself, and maybe think about changing so you don't become a forum reject. I just can't manage to get across the point that you're being "That Guy" along with quite a few other clan players. Be respectful to everyone else's feelings! PLEASE? I really don't understand why you consistently refuse to see that by being thick skulled and doing things however you want that you are irritating the **** out of a lot of other people! Did you grow up in a barn? Have you never been taught manners?

Yeesh. I tried being calm and respectful and I've had to resort to this. You've lowered me to your level. Congratulations.
