The XP bonus is useless, you'll get enough XP to elite any mech in the game by the time you grind enough CBills to buy the next variant.
This is only for golds with more money than sense.

I don't know if Champions have to be leveled independently of their basic counterpart... the 10% XP boost would make the Champion Jenner-F a nice replacement for my standard Jenner-F.

The Champion is the same variant as the standard variant. Only Hero 'Mechs have a different tree for the chassis. So your Jenner-F uses the same tree as the Jenner-F Champion 'mech.

The XP bonus is not useless, it gets you bonus GXP as well. Champion mechs also come with near-optimal loadouts. As far as your comment about "golds", jealous?

I know it's functionally the same Mech, but I just don't know if they literally use the same Pilot Tree.

To offer a dissenting opinion... I think the JR7-F© is a great deal. That build would take over 10 million C-bills to put together from scratch; for just $5 you save yourself 20-25 hours of grinding. Sure, if you can play all day and generate millions of C-bills effortlessly then it doesn't make sense to pay real money for it... but if your time is limited then this is a great light mech to start your collection.

Agreed it's a lovely mech to play right out of the box and it comes with one of the most versatile XL engines in the game.
I can't speak for the other fits as I don't own them.

My only gripe is that you didn't consider selling camos or color for easy MC spending habits.
