Its All About The Pilots

It would be great if we could right click a pilot and either make a friend request, for like minded pilots, OR right click a pilot you hate and add him to an enemy list.
I just feel it would be helpful in establishing the cw universe we are all imagining.

I know I wish sometimes I could "friend" a player I just rocked in a round with but by the time I get out past the EOR screen I've forgotten the l33t spelling....

This thread should probably be in a suggested features forum.

Of course it could be abused if added incorrectly but still how do you make friends in game if you cant voice chat or add them to a list to gather further experience?
Guess I missed the boat.

We're not even able to set and organize friend list by group, so...
So, thinking too much about a full social system is foolish nowadays. Give them a chance to bring us those things with UI 2.0, but I would not expect much in such a tiny amount of time before release...

That's strange, and although I agree to some degree, I see many of the same pilots over and over again, match after match.
Many of those guys I have seen in the forums from the begining, so I think maybe region (timezone) and ELO may have a lot to do with it.
If I manage to get on (ingame) early in the day, I will see people that I do not see at night, but DO see posting, and vice versa.
It would be nice if you could send a friend request by selecting the pilots name before the round starts, and have the invite show after the round, I think this would work because I often drop against some of the same pilots at least a couple of times within a few matches.
Some pilot's nights are other pilot's mornings... I DO see a lot of forum posters ingame, but I don't think many people actually post as opposed to just reading.. Not long ago I saw a person with a Founders Tag post in a thread, and he only had 40 or so posts to his name, and I thought that was strange, the Founders Option ended long long ago, and only 40 or so posts.??
I think more pilots read, and less actually post. I never posted much in the EA forums for BattleField, it just didn't appeal to me to do so for that game..

Not saying there shouldn't be a better way built into the game, but at least for now, that's easy enough to accomplish your goals.

See, to me, its my hope that in the future with CW there will be a way to not only easily add friends enemies, but our own exploits in game will be reflected via simple immersion **** like.
Special commendations in various battles campaigns that would be part of the greater CW universe.
ribbons, medals for offensive, defensive excellence.
Participation in X amount of battles
X amount of time in various mechs.
Excellence as commander
IOW if an individual or unit mounted an against all odds defense on a key planet and then went on to lead and attack elsewhere, that information should not only be noted, but celebrated.
We have a talent pool capable of great things and that can be instrumental in us, the playerbase creating our OWN lore with our own actions.
Thats the kind of thing that can be showcased on the forums, but pgi needs to make at least that section of the forums a place where EVERYONE would want to go .
It was a sentiment almost realized with the mwll planetary league.
I mean cmon, mech combat , in and of itself can be utterly epic. Add name recognition to exploits in combat and you have a recipe for the flavor of awesome i think we are all looking forward to when it comes to CW.
I know it sounds stupid, but just seeing some pilot with a fantastic name,e.g. chaos theory, run amok on the battlefield makes me smile.
Ive seen hundreds of pilots with great names do amazing things. CW has all the potential in the world.
Who isnt excited to start to see the lines on the star map start moving. ?

Would love this added in, the game could use the social side expanded.

(okay occasionally a random dood or two are sprinkled in the mix to even things out)
I do think we need lobbies/chat/expanded functionality to make this feel more like a "community."
Mercnet was the best... even back in 1996.

The player base isn't that big and it is just time zone imo.
In a sufficiently large and active player base, ELO would be a pretty robust system actually.

It just takes a bit of work I suppose.
I've totally typed into chat stuff like this after speccing or doing some badass tandem maneuver with someone" That was some nice work 'XXXXXX' I'm going to send you a friend request."
Or
" nice camo =D, you have good taste, I'm going to send a friend request" If they are rocking the same color and mech or something.
And had a couple people do the same to me as well for whatever reason..

I make that one easy by the simple expedient of writing off anyone using a leet speak name.

Not only do a lot of Founders not post much, but a lot of them haven't been playing the whole time (or even much at all).

Some of us are a bit paranoid about random friend invites. You see, you need to have someone on your friends list to be able to put them on your blocked list, and if there's one thing we don't want it's players blacklisting us making it even harder for us to find matches.

Look man, that feature is so 2008, you have to understand the developers are coding as if they are in 1988 and this is a MUD when it comes to chat and basic social features. Someday, maybe 10 years in the future the Dev's will find a way to allow /ignore or /friend from the chat window. Maybe 20 years in the future, one of the Dev's will have picked up this really new seldom known game called WoW and look at their chat interface and friend system to understand that gee players expect a WoW level of chat controls and friend options in today's game. I was completely shocked when the Dev's figured out how to use the Delete key in the chat window. They must have hired some genius from Outer Mongolia who could code that for them.
