I'm actually at a loss for words.

I genuinely cannot think of why this option was REMOVED instead of just changing the mouse button 1 default mapping.

It.....

I mean

PGI, you've done some pretty damn stupid things but at least there was some sort of logic behind it that I could follow even if it was wrong.

But...

This?

My thoughts exactly. This isn't just stupid, it's outright incomprehensible.

Put it back.

Y'all forgot what it was like when I wasn't on your side, or at the very least apathetic, towards a decision you've made haven't you?

Finally PGI, you have done something so incredibly baffling that I am moved to post. Like many, I have been playing Mechwarrior since the first one and Battletech (tabletop) before that. When I saw the '07 trailer, I was pumped. I bought the biggest founder package (and I'm a cheapskate) and a joystick in anticipation.

-The joystick still sits collecting dust since I can't use it as a throttle.
-My 2 button mouse is now useless since I am not going to stop maneuvering just to reach my fingers up to press number keys.
-I was baffled by the loss of mouse wheel mapping too.

So what gives? Consoles? Really!? That would be way too short sighted to be true.
I run a community of 50 active members and now can't play.

My only suggestion would be to learn the lesson that Chris Roberts is teaching the gaming industry and make a game that people WANT to play.
-Cater to the core player base who will be your bread and butter.

Sigh. Every time I start to consider pressing that activate button for my premium time the game seems to go backwards. Today, I walk away and will watch for the next hotfix that EVERYONE wants.

I would arrange groups 1-4 in cascading heat efficiency so I could ramp down heat consumption while maintaing dps With 6 being a long range engage group so I could back pedal the active weapon group by one click from my primary group to switch between hard hitting and long range at a click.

Changing this will completely ruin not just my firing but many other processes as I've already started using other buttons on my mouse for seperate actions. I'm constantly going to be firing off weapon group 3 trying to zoom, or weapon group 2 when I'm trying to toggle weapons in and out of firing groups

ETC ETC.. this patch has actually turned me into a liability to my team. prone to accidentally firing off weapons trying to adjust zoom or lock targets, since I'll have to use keys formerly allotted to those actions for firing groups now.

Or I would be if I even bothered playing, but frankly, thats not going to happen until its fixed.

I mean....

This doesn't even effect me. I remapped mouse button 1 to weapon group 1 a long time ago.

but...

WHY?!?

I mean....

This was a change that took time and in business time is money.

You actually had to pay someone to REMOVE code AND change default mapping.

....

I'm....

I don't want what you are smoking.....

STOP BREAKING MY FAVORITE GAME!

"Removed the key binding option "Fire Selected Weapon Group". Mouse 1's (Left Click) default key bind is now "Fire Weapon Group 1", this can be remapped in the options screen."

Except that it can't be remapped as the option is non-existent, you've even removed "mouse1" from the actionmaps file, WTH?

OK, this time I am with the "Fix this silliness or I want a full refund of all $$ I ever paid for this game!!11!!!" crowd.
There was nothing broken, there was no need to "fix" this before you broke it PGI.
There is not one dissenting voice here stating that this new scheme is better.

Pause my premium time until this is fixed or I will indeed be looking at the option of a full refund because I have no intention of trying to work around your latest mistake. I cannot for the life of me understand why you chose to make the vast majority of your players question your sanity and competence yet again by removing one of the most basic options ever. Not to even mention the fact that this has been an option in EVERY MECH GAME!

HOTFIX!!! YESTERDAY!!!!

Why??? Why did you remove the ability to fire a selected weapon group???
You can still select a specific group, you just cannot fire it!

Please return the ability to fire a selected weapon group.

Well here's the rub, not only is it now against the TOS to modify your actionmaps file but they have removed "Mouse1" from the actionmaps file anyway....

This shows you how Disconnected the devs have become from their player base. To do this without warning and justification is just plain stupid.

I did not use it but I know there are many who do. Why this option was removed makes no sense and the fact that they did it without warning makes it worse

I must be honest and say I have relied on this feature from the start, and find myself slightly crippled without it. I understand that it is PGI's job to fix what they think needs fixing, even if the community resists, but I am having a hard time understanding the thinking here. Its so baffling I'm not even sure if its supposed to be this way or not, the phrasing in the patch notes could be taken either way.

I have been playing mech games with that feature since before some PGI employees were even alive, I would wager. With the removal of the ability to bind a mouse button to fire selected weapon group, its not just inconvenient. If you are like me and prefer to play using a mouse without a bazillion buttons on it, its game breaking, since you are now limited to only 1 or 2 weapon groups. Just wish I had had time to log in yesterday and get some drops in before they made the game unplayable.

Unbelievable:

This totally breaks the game for me; I'm only using a two button mouse at the moment. Taking an option out of the game that has been in the controls since the beginning of the series, and makes no logical sense. This game is a pain in the butt to play now. Think I'm gonna have to write it off completely if they don't bring the option back.

Fortunately, MW4 Mercs (the mektek version) is still floating around. Guess I can get my mech fix for free that way, and devote my money to Star Citizen.

Yeah.... I can pretty much agree with most of whats been said in regards to the actual fire selected group feature(less so with the personal attacks and other bs...) I've been firing selected group since MW2, and suplementing that with fire group X when it was available. It's just natural Having to feel around for the button groups gets awkward, and most of my missfires happens when I try to fire by group keys(i'll unload LRM at point blank and over heat or fire mediums at a target 1100 out) But with the group indicator on my reticule and my fire selected I always know what I'm going to shoot.

Also I know at least 2 or 3 guys who use joysticks, they live and die with them, will never use the M+K... What about them?

It's not just a feature that's been in mechwarrior since it's inception, it's been in every simulated game that let you customize the weapon loadout as far as I can recall, like privateer, wing commander, like every space shooter since X-wing...

I don't know about making the game console ready, as it would seem to be more awkward to map 6 weapon groups to the 4 trigger buttons plus the 4 face button and 2 stick buttons that seems to be the standard, in addition to the other stuff you have to do like radar, override, heat/night vision, modules ect but maybe they want us remapping the weapons to group one on the fly? Maybe they have a deal with Razer to sell gaming mice with tons of buttons? I have no clue... I get there might have been some confusion about M1 being fire selected for newbies who didn't understand their weapons groups but a simple tutorial would fix that...

Unfortunately I'm starting to expect this kind of out of nowhere, obtuse policy stuff when it comes to implementing features... IE 3pv, the spin up gauss nerf, the ghost heat, and now this... I'm not that active in the forums and community I suppose, I'm here to play the game not troll forums, but was this ever an issue? I never heard of it in game...

Remapping the default key binds would have been sufficient to make sure that players don't fire the wrong weapons when they click Mouse 1 or press 1 to fire weapon group 1 when they accidentally left a different group selected. Removing the option was a mistake.

I would suggest keeping the remapped default keybinds as they are now, with clicking 1 or Mouse 1 firing weapon group 1, and reinstating the Fire Selected WeaponGroup option as a feature that is not bound by default. That way people can still use the feature without being thrown off by the default keybinds.

I dont use this option but unless some specific technical issue is preventing it from being an optional keybind/mapping, I too would like to see this optional keybind return.
