something something, "after all the 'mechs have dynamic geometry". i get the feeling they're not sure how to do some things and want to buy time.

Don't talk about this...it'll just speed up the demise of the aesthetics of the Awesomes and Dragons.

Which doesn't even have a time-frame. Not even Soon™.

So don't hold your breath.

I'd imagine that they'd do quads long before they got around to tripods... ;)

One can always hope. That is overall good news though. My fingers are crossed.

Removing the VCRs is a step in the right direction, but they need to revert back to the C1 LRM15 ears. The Catapult is oversized to begin with, forcing the C4 LRM20 ears on every Cat is the wrong decision.

Ideally, they should dynamically scale, with anything less than 15 total tubes in the arm getting the smaller C1 box. Only 16+ tubes should get the dumbo box.

For bonus points, 12 tubes or less should get a new, narrower box.

(And as a thank you to the longsuffering Cat drivers, they should give us the Butterbee hero ... but I won't hold my breath.)

It would be a fun ride. Kinda negates the C4 though, since it is basically a C4 with side torso energy.

Weird thought...

Would a Catapult variant with high mount arms (K2/Jester style), 2 CT energy, and 2 missile missile hard points (one in each side torso) be interesting?

With integrated missiles in the side torso might make for a better SRM setup (launchers closer together and down low). Allows for long range sniping (the K2 arms) and has some short range deterrent with the chassis mounted SRMs. Just an idea. Might be cool (besides no awkward arm launchers, just small PPC barrels lol).

The K2 could use another couple of hard points of anything anywhere, but that's a whole other thread. :)

I just want the Butterbee because I dislike the Jester so much ... though it would be slightly better than any of the other Cats, due to lack of hard points on the base models ...

See, I like the Jester. I think it is because of the sheer speed from the chassis (well, speed of a medium anyway). Running 97 kph in a Catapult pretty much sold me.

I think the K2 could use 2 CT energy hardpoints. I think the Jester killed that possibility, but who knows.

I think the Butter Bee was designed to be a Catapult "brawler". Because of that roll, I think the missiles might be nicer in the torso. They would be more shielded in the torso and closer together for a nicer punch. Its nice to have LRMs in the arms to fire over cover, but SRMs and SSRMs are so close range so having launchers so high does rarely any good.

So I think a Butter Bee style Catapult is s good idea, but I'd like to see the side torso energy and the arm missile hard points switch places.

1. The tripod. As far as i know there is only one tripod mech
2. Both quads and tripods gonna hurt cryengine sooooo much xD
Just imagine them on cliffs of some terra terma or pathing through mining collective in packs. Or even jumping down ledges. Not even talking about flying quads

There are at least two canonical tripods: the Ares and the Poseidon. ;)

Also, I suspect that it's less that more-than-bipedal 'Mechs would be an issue for CryEngine than it would be more-than-bipedal 'Mechs being a royal PITA for PGI with regard to the modelers and how to not make it look silly in-game (e.g. not floating on cliffs or any sort of incline, or randomly running aground on any sort of uneven terrain).

i think we are nearing a victory after all, our commitment to these debuffed mechs are unwavering. i only hope our faith is rewarded with something equally good to the quality of the current generation of mechs.

Well, I can't imagine the fix would be worse than what we have already.

We were able to bring the AH back and get the Urbie in-game. It might take a while...
