A Pgi, I Would Like My $$$$ Returned!

Mech Warrior is a SIM and as such it should be played with a JoyStick, Throttle controller and peddles.
Yes I know in today’s world of MMO"s a keyboard, mouse, game pad, etc... are the primary input devices development builds for. With joysticks and other control sets are all to often a last minute add-on.
However in one fatal move by PGI’s development they have made the Trigger on the joystick unusable, as well as any Single key binding one may have wished to use to fire there weapons, including mouse button one.
There are SIX weapons groups that can be customized by the Mech Pilot. They are currently mapped to the one through six number keys on the key board, and MB1 is mapped to group one. The trigger for the joystick in not mapped to anything. How can I map the trigger to all six weapons groups and be able to move through each one as needed.
PGI please tell us how you are going to give us the control to map a key (button or trigger) to be able to use just that key to fire a weapon of our choosing without having the option of a fire selected group option???? Paul’s answer of using MB1 and some tweaking tells me that you are locking out all other options of firing weapons.
THE ANSWER IS: YOU CAN’T WITHOUT HAVING A FIRE SLECTED WEAPONS OPTION, THAT WAS REMOVED BY PGI WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE GAME PLAY DAMAGE IT WOULD CAUSE!!!!.
So please refund my cash investment in to your game that is no longer supporting a standard game play format. I ask all other paying customer / non-paying customer to link to this thread if you use a single key option to play the game. That is if PGI lets this even stay up as an open topic.
Refund Value: $200.00 {yes I know that is low compared to others}

I'll still be here when you calm down and come back to reason.

The last time I looked for a joystick (this was probably 15 years ago, mind you) they had something around six buttons (trigger, several thumb buttons, and a pinky button -- some even had two triggers). Seems to me that would be one joystick trigger/button per weapon group. Have they dumbed-down joysticks so they only have a couple of buttons?

No, they have 6 or more, it's just stupid to look at it like...
Oh, Trigger will be weapon group one, button 2 will be some other weapons, button 3 will be other, etc. etc, etc
When practicality, ease of use, and basic common sense is: Trigger fires weapon group. button 2 (or hat, whatever) moves the weapon group to the left, button 3 (or hat, whatever) moves weapon group right.
Aside from making things even more difficult for people who don't just use mouse/keyboard (physical limitations, etc, etc..) in a game that has abysmal joystick support in the first place. What they've done is, like I've described elsewhere, would be to have you either play the game without a mouse, or rearrange all the keys on your keyboard then get told to go figure out how to play the game again.

Seems like you're thinking MW:O is like a FPS game where you only have one weapon out at at time, which is counter-intuitive to me. But then again I'm used to using joysticks for combat flight sims where each trigger/button could instantly fire off different kinds of gun, missile, rocket, or bomb. I'd be using a joystick the same way for MW:O, if I still had one.
If you're physically unable to use multiple joystick/mouse buttons, I understand ... but if not, it just doesn't make sense.
In any case, now that I understand what's going on, it doesn't matter what I think.
I do have to say this though -- basic common sense? Maybe if all you play is FPS games with only one weapon at a time. But not for people who had a blast playing the real combat flight sims like the original Falcon 4.0 and such.
I will give you the "easy" part though. And that's what gaming is all about nowadays.

Just relax man. Get a 6 pack, twist one up, sit back, and realize this isn't the end of the world. Certainly not worth a full refund and cancelling your account over!
Plus... we'd miss ya

Hey, I'm totally relaxed... they said their going to fix it, doesn't mean that they're not going to hear about it for 2 weeks Not being able to play gives me more time to spend on the forums
Sometimes, lessons need to be hard learned
Oh, I see the misunderstanding. I'm not the OP, I know the faction tags make us look alike sometimes

You got that right Roadbeer, as I can not play the game with my SIM set up, (the one I use to still play Falcon 4.0 and the original Mech Warrior titles) I can sit here on the forums and make sure someone understands the lesson and the pain that comes with it. Besides we all know that they (PGI) is not going to give anyone's money back. But the title should get them to understand the impact of the bone head mistake that they made.

But.....that is not a "SIM" setup, that is just bassackwards......If you were simming it up, you would have a seperate weapon or group of weapons on each button. The trigger is used mainly for weapons that require your most attention or finees, with other buttons, the more out of the way ones for sure, are for more fire and forget groups such as lrms. What you have is a setup of a man with a one button mouse stuck in the 80's.....
to use the setup you speak of, you would have to pull the trigger, hit a button to move to the next group, pull the trigger again, move it over to the next group, pull the trigger again, and than decide whether you want to move on to the next group, or hit the back button twice and go back to the begining, where as me and true "sim" setups, we hit trigger for group one, which is my primary weapon(s), and in a pinch can hit group two when the time is right(buton 2, I know, I went off the wall with that choice), or three if the time is right for that one, 3 button presses to fire all three groups vs your minimum of 5, and a fourth button press for me to go back to group 1 vs your addition 3 presses....just astounds me on that much work and effort to be put into firing additional weapons groups...Now granted, I know most militaires and governments are not sticklers for efficiency, but imagine an f-18 pilot having to make a split second decision to fire his sidewinders (on group 3) but his current group position is on his cannon(group 1). A minimum of 3 button presses have to be made to do it, two next weapon presses, and than the trigger. or a real pilot (or sim setup) would flip the cover over his missle pickle (button 2) and just fire and forget....

They won't do something like this in a hotfix. It'll come in a regular patch like other non-emergency stuff.

PGI you are a bunch of fools and this should have been fixed the same week, no excuse is good enough. Like going to the car mechanic and him telling me that they removed the clutch (rebuilt the entire transmission) because it is easier to drive. If that is what I wanted, I would have bought an automatic.

If they didn't respect you they would tell you to just move along and deal with it. Guess what. They didn't. They're fixing it with an upcoming patch next week.
Try to get your manties out of that bunch they're in and relax a little. This is hardly the end of the world or game-breaking as many as exclaiming.
